My first Rage experience was when Freedom video hit MTV. Then later on someone said they thought'd like them because they had that line "F* you, I wont do what you tell me (sp?)". I got their debut and was amazed at two things, first, the liner notes had in big print that all sounds were created with vocals, guitars, and drums (sp?) aka no samples, drum machines, turntables ect...., and second that every song on it was great. Probably the best band to mix metal and rap at the same time that I have ever heard.
I remember Rage regularly had food and clothing drives at their concerts, they were really activists for helping those in need, they also appeared on many charitable records at the time. The guitarist Tom Morello doesn't get enough credit for his charitable and political activism, to this day.
He does a lot of good stuff but he's a bit of a hypocrit. He talks a good game but his actions? He puts his name on anything to sell. Has no problem gauging fans for ticket prices.
@@Deguello23 Ik the band and ppl donate a lot of money. Also their only charging high prices to combat scalpers. Which has worked Bc I myself was able to get a ticket recently lol.
It's like when you wish you could forget a book/movie/TV show so you can experience it again for the first time. That's when you know something is good, when you wish you could have that indescribable feeling again.
I love Rage but hate that their music is more relevant now than when they made it nearly three decades ago. Leonard Paltier is still in prison, native lands are still being exploited, racial injustice is still real, the wealth gap is only growing. The doctrine of American Incrementalism we've put up with as a nation needs to end now. The Federal Minimum wage is $7.25 an hour. In 2020 you can work 40 hours a week and bring home $290, minus taxes, around $240! Granted its higher in some states, but in a lot of states, if you work a tipped position (bartender, waiter, etc) the wage drops to less than $5 in some states. Shits criminal.
@@alfredrobertson7852 could always develop your own skills and get a higher paying job and put the effort in to improve your situation....easier to just want free shit and get higher wages while offering no skills I guess. I liked Rage when I was a kid but after growing up I realize what a bunch of bullshit most of what Zac rapped about was.
@@mrletternumber The problem is that those who don't get a good education through no fault of their own (someone dies and a kid has to take care of the family and doesn't have time for school anymore for example) are expected to live off of that wage. These are jobs that are plentiful and need to be filled, many with full time hours, but since they're unskilled jobs people assume that nobody should get paid more than the poverty line. So people are stuck, working huge hrs to make enough money to get by, a family to take care of, which then leaves them no time to do home schooling. There are ALOT of intelligent poor people in the world without an education.
@BassMunk Minimum-wage jobs are meant to be a stepping stone not a career. But even if you choose to make it a career, there is always opportunities in management. Skills are more valuable in our society, than an education. The person who only limits their thinking/opportunities to minimum wage is the the problem.
@@misscleo378 People who limit themselves are a problem, yes. But assuming that a job isn't meant to be worked full time or not supposed to support you cuz employers are cheap and don't wanna pay more than minimum wage is a mistake. Many jobs are simple stepping stones, but you're assuming all are. And that's simply untrue. Greed goes both ways, and you better believe many business owners would pay even less if they could. They really don't care...
Some of this stuff is blowing your mind now, imagine how revolutionary it was for us at the time. Bands like this in the 80s and 90s was a huge turning point in music that has been almost forgotten.
I can believe it. I was 13 when their first album came out and I skated to buy with my paper route money on a Saturday after BBall practice. Now I'm 41.
Me too, it's funny how you show them stuff and really want them to like it as much as you do , then 5 years later they say, yeah I cam really dig it now ! 😁
Concerts were incredible. It's like everybody became one synced, bouncing organism. Most times 90% of people ended up on the main floor. One of a kind.
I waited 4hrs on the day this album dropped because they were giving away a free giant poster to the first 10 to buy the album. We thought there would be a line, we were the only ones lol
4:44 the way you look at your brothers reaction to the solo, i felt that haha. The experience of sharing something like music is like no other, thats why i love watching you!
I did the same look when my daughter heard it for the first time. She said “that’s dumb” so I opened the door of the car and kicked her ass out while we were moving
That whole verse is insane. "What we don't know keeps the contracts alive and moving They don't gotta burn the books they just remove em While arms warehouses fill as quick as the cells Rally round the family, pockets full of shells"
Best line from RATM? The one that sticks out in my head every time I think of them? "Land of the free? Whoever told you that is your enemy," from Know Your Enemy.
@@marcoborda3641 Settle for Nothing goes hard! "...a jail cell is freedom from the pain in my home... hatred passed on passed on and passed on..." De La O is pretty deep, bruh.
@@daindian7428 "There's a mass without roofs, a prison to fill, there's a country's soul that reads post no bills, there's a strike and a line of cops outside of the mill, cuz there's the right to obey, and there's the right to kill..." Whenever I listen to this out in public I can't stop myself from rapping that part out loud. Might be my favorite bars by De La O ever.
I was able to see them 3 times live in concert. Tom Morello is truly something to behold live. His transitions are masterful. Seeing the guitar strings sticking out off his guitar always made me think it was waving to you in the audience as he was playing. And he is only 1/4 of what was on stage. Great band. Hope to see them again this summer.
I bought there self-title in 1992. Was highly impressed with what I was hearing. Saw them on Lollapalooza in 1993. I did not believe that Morello would be able to do all of those sounds live. He proved me very wrong.
There are cool stories from other guitarists that were on tour with Rage. They would gather at the side of the stage in awe of what Tom was doing with his guitar. The man was a wizard.
Rage is probably my all time favorite band so I understand how you felt when you 1st heard them...it blows your mind. All that talent with deep messages. I love that you just had to share it with your brother because it’s so powerful. Plus....DAMN DON’T IT MAKE YOU WANNA DANCE!!! 🤣
I love seeing you show your brother Rage! You reacting to him was how I was reacting to you with their music. So many times...’yeah but wait until you hear THIS part! You thought that was good!) Love it.
I watch reaction videos to see how people react to hearing music that I love for the first time. It's cool to see Jamel who now loves this music react to his brother reacting to RATM. Good stuff!
Take how you felt introducing this to your brother and seeing his reaction and knowing that he gets it and shares your love for it . Man now you get us .
Yeah I had tickets for March shows, they let us get new seats for 2021 rescheduled.Huge bummer to wait but we all know it's worth it. Always has been always will be.
Our seats actually got better because the demand went down. And and just because you didn't know about the tour doesn't make you less a fan. Life happens😉
@@ViolentKisses87 well, I'm not saying that but maybe he's got another reason for that statement. I know not all homeless people are crooks, that's for sure but these guys sing all about "the movement" and how bad people who look like me are. Maybe do something constructive like get all these kids to stay in school and REALLY get something out of that, I mean WE ALL pay enough in taxes for ALL kids to go to school, right.
@@klasseact6663 I think the problem with that statement is that statistically speaking most homeless people are mentally ill (clinically speaking), yet the same leftists want harder gun control, or even gun bans for healthy, stable, law abiding citizens. I DO appreciate the sentiment of sticking up for the weak, but practical tically speaking this is silly. Also, everyone does go to school for free. Not sure what you were getting at.
Love seeing good taste and open minds run in the family. Rage is back and we need them more then ever. I think your brother is also ready to spiral out.
Born of a Broken Man is my favorite song from RATM. "His thoughts like a hundred moths Trapped in a lampshade Somewhere within Their wings banging and burning On through endless nights Forever awake he lies shaking and starving Praying for someone to turn off the light"
Steve Zrofsky you mean the governments shit? We don’t own a drop of land on gods green earth. Supposably you own your property, but even after you pay your property off, you still have to pay property taxes, etc. we never really own shit.
I’ve seen a couple suspect interpretations of this song in the comments haha. “Bulls on parade” is referencing the military industrial complex and how it drives a “Bull” stock market. A “Bull” market is when it is doing well and a “Bear” market is when the market is down. The more wars we fight and money we spend paying companies to make bombs, the better the stock market does. It’s the old “Butter vs. Bullets” argument on government spending. “Rally around the family with a pocket full of shells” is showing the dichotomy of the Republican Party being the party of family and god, but also being the party of guns and war. ✌️❤️✊
The 2nd Amendment is about the citizens being able to protect themselves from tyranny and oppression. If that’s seen as a bad thing, then I suppose one should study history a bit more. Also, being able to protect one’s own family from harm is seen as being evil nowadays for some reason. Makes no sense to me.
That's a great explanation. For years, I've always thought Rage should have put a typical W.A.S.P. family like Leave It To Beaver with the mom serving dinner in an apron as they all held M-16's with bullets as table decor in the video. With those fake cheesy grins. That's what I picture, anyway.
gutabo I’m not being defensive, I’m just pointing out that there is no hypocrisy with being pro gun and pro family. I am not a Republican, but I have a family and am very pro gun, and that seems to be offensive to mostly left leaning ideologues.
I recently saw a video on Facebook of a person going through 100 guitarists and classifying their style with just a single sentence. For Tom Morello, he put: "Tom Morello. He wins the 'has never played an unoriginal lick or riff in his life' award."
Brother, I cannot tell you how many times I got to see Rage Against the Machine live back in my younger days. Watching your reactions to one of the best lyricists in music is priceless!
MovieManBrad same bro but if i cant listen to them again for the first time , then i do the same as here , introduce RATM to some one for thier first time 🔉🔊🔉🔊🔉🔊🙃
And this is how great music is shared. I love that it was his little bro who he picked to share with. It used to be spinning vinyl for your friends, or a cool relative spinning it for you. That feeling when you find something so new and amazing, that you just have to share. That turntable was like fire to cavemen. Thanks Jamel.
Your reactions are priceless. I loved seeing you and your bro banging heads together. I've heard all of Rages songs a thousand times and it is still impossible for me to sit still. I've seen them back in the day and love them so much I named my first born( who is 19 now) Rage🤘🤘
He needs to watch Killing In The Name next!!! Do more reacts with the two of you to Sleep Now in the Fire( the real video) , Testify, Guerrilla Radio, Calm Like a Bomb, People of the Sun, Renegades of Funk.
You did to him what a lot of us try to show. You became one with rage and tried to show it to someone else. And you got that reaction and he also did to what a lot of us got when we first heard them when they came out. Mad props for sharing
Jamel: That was so dope that you had your little brother on your show! It's really cool grooving to this song with you guys. I love the messages that RATM brings! Keep on rockin'!
5:52 is a magical moment. You guys were totally in sync with the music, as were all the viewers as well I'm sure! Congrats Jamel... you're more than just a fan and student of the music now. You're a damn missionary!
Great to see you both rockin out to Rage and giving them the respect many of us feel they earned long ago. I noticed since these reactions that the younger YT generation have been reacting to Rage more and more and finding respect for this music and lyricism.
Ha ha...The look on your face Jamel is like mien as I play Rage for friend don't know it!!! Yaasss.. Your one of us now and I want to see you two mosh!! Xx
Love it when you look at your brother for his reaction to Tom's funky guitar work at 4:40. I watched this version a lot (RATM Bulls on Parade live 1996 HD) The crowed is really fired up.
It is great seeing you just waiting for those really epic parts of the song and looking at your brother like "here it comes, bro" anticipating him getting into the song even more.
I think i just spent like 3 hours watching these rage videos. Just subscribed to your channel. I’m a lifelong RATM fans and a musician. I agree with you that Zach is one of the GOAT when it comes to lyricist. So much talent in this band and very relevant with everything going on this second
RATM from 92-93 And they may have 1 or 2 older undergrund albums as well. That`s why he say "back with a other Boomtrack" on the first official released album.
Love how your sharing these experiences of discovery with your brother. I remember sharing with mine and then how he went on to discover it all for himself. Respect bro
This reaction does my heart good. My older brother turned me on to a lot of great music- songs that meant something. I tried to do the same with my best friends and some of us ended up forming a band through the process, even though few of us knew how to play any instrument. We took the time and energy to learn. We just wanted to make music like the songs that moved us.
Just found this channel and this song brought me back to my youth and how angry we all were in the 90's and early 00's. Sadly, I went from one war zone at home to another overseas and when I came home nothing changed except me. Older and angier.
Jamel/Jamal. I want to thank you (and all the people who requested this). I have heard this band before. I've heard this song dozens of times... But I never LISTENED to them before. Now I start digging further in! P.S. - I love that you brought in your brother! It shows how much you liked this band and that you wanted him to get the message from the songs. Thank you. Keep it up. My wife and I watch you all the time!
Everyone needs to know what the phrase "bulls on parade" means. It refers to the moment when the police cords enter the protesters as the real bulls attack the people in the streets of Pamplona, Spain.
I always took it as a reference to the Republican party (bull elephants). Rally around the family with a pocket full of shells is about how they were pushing family values in the election while pushing the country into war and being in the pocket of th NRA.
@@kitoyobeni1 Pushing the country into war? My friend, America is in war from the moment Columbus arrived there. I am sorry. RATM its against the sistem not a political party
January is just smacking us all around. Neil Peart of Rush, Terry Jones of Monty Python, and now Kobe Bryant, his daughter and the others in the crash. Sad time for a new year.
Man I love this so much with your brother’s reaction. Insanely cool you are getting so into Rage Against The Machine and they are actually touring this year. They’ve been on hiatus multiple times for long periods. GO see them!
Seeing these guys live in the 90's was something I will always remember. When they played this song, you coed feel the crowd rise. It felt like we were the family, rallying around each other. It was powerful to watch your reactions to the song. You two would have loved the atmosphere I experienced. I was head banging right alongside you guys. 🎸 Keep it up!
You are a lot of fun to watch. Coming from an older chick, so glad to see young people discovering this band. They tried to tell so many that were not hearing, hope more keep listening. Still relevant, still raw. Peace to you young ones.
Absolutely love this. Sharing this with your blood and watching your brother rock out the same as you do...proves that good taste is at the genetic level.
I really like seeing you and your bro together makes me feel like family is working and still important, I also liked it when you visited your Mums as well, peace from Sydney down under....
Great job and insane band. They were the second concert I ever been to. Love that you guys have open minds and rock out to some kick ass tunes. Much love brothers.
