Here is another song, this time in Old Norse (and a bit of Old English) about the famed Ragnar Lothbrok and his sons. The story is based on the Saga of Ragnar Lothbrok and the Saga of Ragnar’s Sons.
Naturally I couldn’t include everything (the song is already 10 minutes(!)), but I’ve included what I consider the main elements of the story. It’s quite an incredible story which speaks to the desire in mediaeval Scandinavian society to avenge a loved one. Nobody typifies that desire quite like Ragnar’s sons.
It’s quite interesting, though, how they go about avenging Ragnar. I won’t spoil it here, you’ll just have to make it through the song. ;-)
This was, frankly, absolutely exhausting to make, but I hope someone gets a bit of enjoyment out of the tale of one of Viking Scandinavia’s most famous figures.

Lyrics:
Í Danmǫrku réð Sigurðr hringr.
Son átti einn, er hét Ragnarr.
Var sá maðr mikill vexti
ok grimmr sínum óvinum.
Hann lét gera fǫt undarlig,
loðbrækr ok loðkápa.
Munu þau Ragnar verja
ormi illum, er var þar.
Ragnarr Sigurðsson ok synir hans!
Kom hann í skíðgarð ormsins, spjót í hendi!
Þeir váru bani konunga margra!
Lagði hann í hrygg orminum, svá at rykr!
Ormsbani, er ormdauðr varð!
Blóðit sakar hann ei, hlífa honum klæði!
Synir hans munu Ragnars hefna!
Ragnarr Loðbrók, ormsbani mikli!
Kom Ragnarr á fund Áslaugar.
Fegrsta var hón allra.
Fyrsti sonr var inn Beinlausi,
þá áttu Bjǫrn ok Hvítserk.
Þeir leita sér frægðar mikillar,
fýsir þá út at sigla.
Ragnarr gaf þeim skip ok lið, þá
fóru synir til Englands.
Ragnarr Sigurðsson ok synir hans!
Komnir eru í borgina Hvítabý!
Þeir váru bani konunga margra!
Taka þeir lausafé ok brenna hvert hús!
Ormsbani, er ormdauðr varð!
Bjǫrn járnsíða hrundi upp ópi:
Synir hans munu Ragnars hefna!
Vár sverð bíta meira en þeira!
Átti þá Ragnarr deilu við
Eystein Uppsalakonung.
Synir Ragnars reiðir fóru,
hann í bardaga drápu.
Ragnarr sitr heima ok heyrði
frægð þá, er þeir unnit hǫfðu.
Hann ok vilði sér frægð vinna,
ok ætlaði til Englands.
Ragnarr Sigurðsson ok synir hans!
Á land komsk allt lið hans Ragnars!
Þeir váru bani konunga margra!
Ella konungr býst til bardaga.
Ormsbani, er ormdauðr varð!
“Ġif Ræġenhere hēr is, ne ofslēaþ hine,”
Synir hans munu bana hefna!
“His suna noldon næfre ūs sibbe ġiefan.”
Ragnarr Sigurðsson ok synir hans!
Ragnarr reið með ormsspjótit í hendi!
Þeir váru bani konunga margra!
Þar sem hann fór, varð rýrt fyrir!
Ormsbani, er ormdauðr varð!
En Ragnarr hafði lið it minna.
Synir hans munu bana hefna!
Lið Ragnars fell ok hann var handtekinn.
“Hū hāttest þū?” var hann spurðr,
hann þagði við, svarar engu.
“Ġif hē nile wiþ us sprecan,
weorpaþ hine on wyrmġeard.”
Hengu ormar ǫllum megin á honum.
Þá mælti Ragnarr Loðbrók:
"Gnyðja mundu grísir, ef þeir vissi,
hvat inn gamli þyldi."
Sendimenn Ellu sigla í Danmǫrk,
Spyrr Ívarr “Hverjir eruð þér?”
“Ælles ǣrendseċġas: æt his handa
forwearþ ēower fæder.”
Bjǫrn tók svá fast á spjótskapti,
at handastaðinn sá á eptir.
Litr Ívars varð mjǫk bleikr,
en segir Ragnarr fór sem varði.
Ragnarr Sigurðsson ok synir hans!
Brǿðr Ívars fóru í England,
Þeir váru bani konunga margra!
Reiðiblindir bǫrðusk við Ellu konung.
Ormsbani, er ormdauðr varð!
Þeir Bjǫrn Járnsíða komu á flotta
Synir hans munu bana hefna!
Ívarr kvaðsk engan hlut í eiga.
“Ǣðe iċ þē” segir Ívarr Ellu.
“Ac wille þæt þú mē ġiefe
þæt of lande þīnum, þe
oxanhȳd mæġ beþenian.”
Hann fær ǫldungshúð eina,
lætr hana bleyta ok þenja.
Þvengr sá var svá langr, at
hann var mikil borgarvídd.
Var Ívarr Ellu mikit lið,
Þótti til spektar at sjá.
Bað brǿðrum sínum gulls mikils.
Yfir hverjum brǫgðum bjó?
Gaf hann fé inum stǿrstum mǫnnum,
dregr lið undan Ellu.
Bað brǿðrum bjóða út leiðangri
yfir lǫndum þeirra ǫllum.
Ragnarr Sigurðsson ok synir hans!
Halda þeir skipum sínum til Englands!
Þeir váru bani konunga margra!
Þeir Ella sjá lið þeirra brǿðra.
Ormsbani, er ormdauðr varð!
Ferr svá geyst, at furða var at!
Synir hans munu bana hefna!
Lið hittusk ok verðr bardagi mikill!
Ragnarr Sigurðsson ok synir hans!
Ganga þeir fram hart Ragnars synir!
Þeir váru bani konunga margra!
Eru ákafir ok berserksgang ganga!
Ormsbani, er ormdauðr varð!
Ella englakonungr kom á flotta,
Synir hans munu bana hefna!
Þá var hann Ella handtekinn!
Ragnarr Sigurðsson ok synir hans!
Ívarr segir “Er nú þat ráð at minnask”
Þeir váru bani konunga margra!
“Hvern dauðdaga gaf várum fǫður.
Ormsbani, er ormdauðr varð!
“Marka skal ǫrn á baki honum”
Synir hans munu bana hefna!
Mjǫk sárr lætr Ella líf sitt.
Þykkjast þeir nú hefnt hafa fǫður síns, Ragnars Loðbrókar Sigurdsonar.

After having listened to this many a time, I return to the comments to add to my initial statement that I am mighty impressed by the sheer impact the single, simple word 'England' has as you let your stanzas end with it. There is an air of such dread, an air of War in this single word that stirs me deeply whenever I hear you sing it. God bless you and your family

Funnily enough someone did a little experiment to see if someone speaking Old English could understand someone speaking Old Norse, and surprisingly enough they picked up a lot of what the other was saying. The only things that were really different was a few key words that could be understood by context

I am literally on the verge of tears. Literally. This song will be mastered while I sing in the shower. If you had sung this song at a table with Ragnarr Lothbrok and King Ælle, they would have become best friends. I will go play this song blasting from my car radio in the hood, I will go make friends.

The first few seconds made me think of the OST of Daggerfall :) Joke aside, I love the long narrative. Maybe the instrumental part could be slightly better but it's great that we have a brand new song and in a slightly different style this time. As others said, the shift between Old Norse and Old English is perfect.

I have no words to describe the intense ferocity felt throughout the song, especially *3:31* or *8:50* Also, at around *3:51* I like that you can hear your voice for what I believe is supposed to be King Ælle which sounds like a desperate plea for peace. Also, a few things to remember: The definitive case for nouns wasn't used until very late in the language's lifespan. The weak declension (such is found in the word "beinlausi") functions in Germanic languages as a definitive case for adjectives, thus "inn" (also a latecomer) isn't necessary. The form of patronymics in your video were also latecomers, before (during Ragnar's time) it was just Sigurðs sonr/sunr. Also, for ert and er, it would've been est and es during Ragnar's time (iirc). Great work so far, hope you see my tips though. Wes þu hal!
