Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, while replying to the Motion of Thanks on the President's address, tore into the BJP in a no-holds-barred barrage of accusations. This triggered strong protests from the Treasury benches. But the trigger was Rahul Gandhi accusing the BJP of spreading fear and hatred "round the clock" in the country while claiming themselves to being Hindus. Amidst loud objections from BJP MPs to Rahul Gandhi's comment, Prime Minister Narendra Modi interjected saying, "Calling the entire Hindu society violent is a serious issue." Soon after Home Minister Amit Shah too countered Rahul Gandhi, asking him, "Does he think that the crores of people who take pride in being Hindus are all violent."
