Raiden is one of the most prominent characters in the Mortal Kombat games. He remains strong throughout the whole series, and it’s nice to see him giving a decent fight in MK11 as well. If you consider bringing Raiden into your personal active roster (or even making him your main), don’t miss this guide by Avirk. It’s a great chance to learn mechanics and fighting features from someone who knows the game’s competitive side. This Mortal Kombat 11 video covers the basics and explains some more advanced techniques for Raiden.
I think his discharge special is also very strong against rush down characters, always blocking to build up electricity and release it to interrupt their inputs. It’s a shame that his armor breaker conflicts with storm cell because that threatens a lot of characters that have great aerial mobility but that aside, this video is very good.
Every variation takes away something vital that he needs. Truth and light takes away Superman? Wtf lol. Raijin can be zoned easily. Thunder wave adds mobility but takes away damage. He has no legit pressure or staggers. He literally has to keep neutral and whiff punish on everything.
Nice guide. I should start using these 311 pts combos. He has great ranged game as well. With thunder wave, you can harass with horizontal and vertical lightning strikes. Whenever the opponent closes in, you can run away with far teleport or superman flight. Whenever they try to play ranged against you, you can counter attack with the behind you teleport. This strategy can lead to rage quits against ranged-challenged characters because they can't reach you.
this guide is honestly not good lol. Recommending to rush people down with his b12 mix is a godawful idea, not mentioning how crucial his b2 and 243 are if he needs to rush the opponent down, or even suggesting the idea to blow up flawless block gaps with stormcell (b3 stormcell). Hell, not even a single mention of superman cancel. f11 is one of the best buttons in the game simply on how disjointed and good on block it is. d3 is his best counterpoking tool as you can't d1 backdash it unlike his d1 and if you block his counterpoke d3 he can backdash pretty freely after it. not saying avirk is shit or anything but he's certainly not playing raiden often lol. As good as raiden is with playing the lame game using only that is (not only boring as fuck but also) won't get you anywhere if you don't know how to defend upclose. You lose your turn or he gets you with some hit advantage you have to guess between strike/throw/b2/b3. His Strike leads into even further mixups with b12 but also to a great cancel with superman if you don't want to overcommit. 243 is only -3 and clips people because it can autoshimmy if they aren't too good on their defense or even get hit by the low because they're afraid of b2. b2 is a 19f overhead with pushback so it can be hard to punish as some characters and it gives oki unlike his throws. His throws send the opponent kinda far away so if you need to lame them out go for throws instead of b2's. 243 is his best meaty as well. f2 is a good gap closer. there you go.
F11 is one of the best buttons in the game? LMAOOOOOOOO absolutely not. The only thing it has going for it is the range. Can’t tell you how many times I think Ive clipped an opponent with that string and they drop out of storm cell.
@Agent Kurtz you missed the whole point. You can see the opponent getting hit by F11 and go to confirm into storm cell and they will fall out of the combo. I know how it works
@Agent Kurtz it’s okay but definitely doesn’t make or break the character. It’s not like anybody is having nightmares about how to deal with that string. B12 is obviously way better. I would argue F32 is as well
F11 can connect with stormcell if the first hit connects. If you connect with the second hit, then you need to you lighting strike mid-projectiles. I agree with Tundric, MK11 Raiden is a defensive character, not an aggressive rushdown. You allow the opponent to come to you, attack if necessary, and then attack back. They shoot projectiles, TP, and 121 kb. They attack and you block correctly Stormcell Combo. If you use Raijin then it's spacing with Quick change Enhanced beforehand
I main Raiden since launch of mk11 and played him when got buff like hell but I drop the game since I didn't have fun anymore and problems with the game
Great guide but man did they do Raiden dirty in this game, MK9 and MKX Raiden were similar Jab pressure and evasion characters, meanwhile MK11 Raiden literally beats the opponent with the power of boredom.
Bro are you serious, you and me both have seen Sikander lay waste with Lord Raiden many many times, and they are Always extremely exciting matches; just the other day he smashed an AirGas Kabal and holy shit was it a show!. A good Raiden is anything but boring.
@@oldmanlexington276 You've misunderstood them. You're confusing Raiden's viability with his presentation. His viability is good but his presentation is incredibly dull in this game. Just because Sikander played Raiden well doesn't mean Raiden isn't boring to play. In fact, Sikander tweeted this about Raiden "NRS did a terrible job on designing Raiden in MK11. Its actually ridiculous how basic and simple this character is compared to everyone else. Literally his whole character is B12 Storm Cell and Grab mixup so unsafe and Teleport. Nothing else will get you a win with him." That is facts. As a part Raiden main, Raiden is underwhelming and boring to play in this game. And many, many other Raiden mains and pro players will agree with that sentiment. He isn't trash or bad in terms of tier/viability but compared to his previous counterparts he is done dirty with how he looks and plays. They took his iconic electric fly scream out, they took out his iconic shocker move, made him significantly slower and less of a brawler (in contrast to Jacqui) gave him trash looking moves like Rolling Thunder and made sparkport two slots. All of which limits creativity and Raiden's Kustoms.
@@oldmanlexington276 bro, im a Day 1 raiden main and his buffs helped him a lot, made him into the ultimate scrub killer. that being said, Raiden is aggressively boring to watch, to play and play against. MK9 / MKX Raiden is one of the most unorthodox characters in MK, yet MK11 is one of the most dull. And this isnt even subjective, Raiden has zero identity in MK11 besides being a KL-Scrub-Killer. His meterless-high-execution-combos are gone, his deadly 50/50 in the corner is gone, his electric fly has zero purpose besides combo ending and a tiny little bit of corner carry (which brings back the point that hes a big pile of nothing in thr corner). They took away what made Raiden special (who besides Scorpion and Sub Zero is the poster boy of MK). This has nothing to do with viability. And if you wanna talk Sik, he himself keeps repeating non stop that Raiden is garbage because hes boring.
@@j_jazzzman1755 Fiiiine, I guess you’re right. Even still, I find him fun to play and very entertaining to watch; maybe it’s because you don’t see much of him, that’s just my personal predilection. I was however pissed about the absence of the iconic yell, that was really dumb to not include that, as well as those dumb useless moves. I totally agree, He’s not perfect but he’s exciting to me, although I completely understand where ksander97 and yourself are coming from; I haven’t spent nearly as much time with him.
his raijin variation is sooo cooked, it basically just makes it so you dont have to play raiden (generally one of the weaker kits iirc) i can only imagine how much better he'd be if he didnt lose discharge after his krushing blows
yo dash fight tbh i prefer mk10 ,the game was better, Raiden was epic i could get 50 to 60% combos also there was a skill gap with the run mechanic against projectile characters just spamming with no skill and R1 amplify in mk10 it wasnt on a cooldown, and the L1 R1 ultimate when used in MK10 you gave up your combo attacks however in mk11 you now have that every game and its no skill also all your R1 amplifys are on a cooldown mk10 gameplay far better than mk11 but the story in mk11 was very good Raiden was epic, tbh they seemed to have focused on noob players getting run mechanic removed so they could spam projectiles R1 AMPLIFY on a cooldown and the ultimate is now used separately when you are low so your rewarded for being a bad player mk1o at least had a skill gap, mk11 gameplay kind of a disappointment.
