Welcome to the CSX Mainline Subdivision! This line runs from Louisville, Kentucky to Nashville, Tennessee for about 175 miles. The northern end of the line continues as the CSX Louisville Terminal Subdivision, while the southern end continues as the CSX Nashville Terminal Subdivision. I decided to do this video from North to South though. This video covers crossings from Hendersonville, TN to Woodburn, KY. This was the former L&N (Louisville and Nashville Railroad,) Mainline, as during that time, this was the first L&N line that was built. The line itself today is rather kind of slow, as the majority of traffic is Autoracks and Manifests, along with 2 intermodals (One in each direction,) and 2 manifest trains that run every other day. You can expect to see around 12-15 trains a day on this route, with around 6-8 in the daylight. As many of the trains that are at the north end of the Nashville Terminal are routed towards the CSX Henderson Subdivision, which that line sees many more trains there.
Because the line is rather slow, this line does have some interesting crossing equipment, ranging from 8 inch lights, to mechanical bells, and to a GRS/WRRS Gate Mechanism. In this video, there are a total of 39 signalized crossings along this route. 9 Mechanical Bells along this part of the line still remain, with 2 being Modern Industries, 2 being WCH, 4 being WRRS, and the known "Simplex School Bell" in Portland, TN. There is also 8 crossings along this route that also have General Signals Type 1 E-Bells too. Many crossings also along this route retain incandescent gatelights, which is rather a uncommon-rare find on CSX lines; but these are rather common along this line. There are also 15 GRS Gate Mechanisms still left along this part of the line, along with 1 remaining GRS/WRRS Gate Mechanism left in Portland, TN. 9 crossings along this part of the line still retain 8 inch lights, with most of them being WRRS. There are also Modern Industries and Federal Signal 8 inchers still left along this part of the line, with the Modern Industries lights at 2 crossings that are both in TN, along with 1 crossing in Franklin, KY with Federal Signal 8 inchers left. This line also has some white emergency information DOT tags still left, although CSX is getting rid of them along this line sadly.
When it comes to light bulbs, 11 crossings along this part of the line use LEDs. 5 use WCH 2nd Gen. LEDs, 5 use Leotek EV Series LEDs, and 1 uses Dialight Bulb LEDs. 3 Crossings use a mixture of incandescent and LED lighting, while the rest of the remaining 25 crossings along this part of the route are pure incandescent.
