Railroad Switching, Short Line RR, Classic Locomotives Work Grain Spur, Cincinnati Eastern Railroad

Classic locomotives setting off cars at the grain elevator spur. Short line railroad Cincinnati Eastern Railroad has started using the grain spur again on a fairly regular basis. In the past year the grain spur has only been used a handful of times but recently I filmed an 8 car train come from there and now we see them set off a couple more cars to be loaded. The train is seen setting off the cars for the grain elevator SW9 to pick them up. This was filmed in Winchester, Ohio on January 11, 2021. I also include an awesome shot of the train crossing the huge trestle east of Winchester, Ohio over Elk Run. The train picked up 68 more cars at Mount Zion just east of that trestle! That video will be out soon. The train was taking those cars to Peebles for storage. This video was shot in 4K. This is the first time that I have shot a video in 4K. The picture has better quality but for some reason the picture stabilizer isn't working very well with 4K. What do you think about the quality? Thanks for watching!
Please thumbs up and watch another JawTooth video to help my channel.

No one beats you when it comes to railfanning. From steam to short lines - especially short lines - you’re light years ahead of the others. And the reason this is so is simple. Most think it’s enough to simply show the trains, but you not only show the trains, you show what the trains are doing, and furthermore, explain it to us. Phrases like “disconnecting the last two cars,” don’t seem like much, but they speak volumes in our understanding of what’s going on. And keep showing Chessie. She’s so adorable and is such a great mascot for your channel.

I just can’t wait for the CCET to actually take some pride in their company and paint their locomotives. From a marketing, branding and professionalism standpoint, a few thousand bucks worth of paint would go a long way.
@beeble2003
@beeble2003 2 года назад
"A few thousand bucks" is just the cost of the paint. In addition to that, you need to remove the old paint, repair and prepare the metal surface and transport the locomotive to a suitable facility. You also have labour costs and the loss of revenue from being without the locomotive for what could be several weeks. And all for what? So that a beautiful shiny locomotive can show up at a customer's facility, towing a dozen dirty, graffiti-covered box cars over whose appearance you have zero control. Customers don't choose a transportation contractor based on how pretty their vehicles are. They choose based on price and reliability. CCET did paint one of their locomotives in a custom livery -- one of the ex-Alaskan GP49s. I'm sure that, if they felt it was in their best interests to repaint their other locomotives, they'd have already done so.

In case anyone's curious, the cylindrical hopper RRRX 4030 which has the word "Railroad" clearly showing through the top coat of paint used to be owned by the Saltville Railroad. Four-mile short line in Virginia, which closed in 1991.

There are two ways of looking at it; those companies that paint their fleets in their own livery and usually keep them very clean, like RJ Corman and G&W, but I also like the battered look of these old warhorses, like an old farm truck that has a whole load of character

Trains only really need ONE locomotive to pull/push the train, but the problem occurs when you need to push a car onto a siding and the main locomotive is in the wrong position to do that 'push'. When that happens, you just disconnect the switcher and push it onto a siding, then pull the train forward and then connect the switcher to the REAR of the train. Now that switcher can be used to 'push' one of the cars of the consist onto a siding, in a way that the main locomotive at the front of the train cannot.

JT, Do you think we ought to start a “Go Fund Me” page to buy cans of spray paint? These re-purposed engines are really fun to watch, but no matter the age and continued use of a locomotive, it needs to be appreciated and respected by the owner. Regardless, it is fun and to watch these videos. You take me away from reality, health issues, the news and life’s conflicts just long enough to get recharged.

Someone aptly named 5895 'The Spitter'. That would drive me nuts, or, I guess ear plugs would be necessary to keep me from going over the edge. Some short lines operate on a shoe string, while others do extremely well and we can see it in how well their power is taken care of, as in logo's and paint job. We've seen the engines and 'round house' of the CCET so I figure they operate on the edge of being in the red and staring bankruptcy in the face on a daily basis, or, they are solvent and the owners don't care as long as the engines work.

Most shortlines are one break down, derailment or lost customer from going under! This line wouldn't exist if CCET didn't lease it from NS, who probably deemed not profitable
