In this video we explore the Monsal Trail. Its an old disused railway line and we explore it on the Cyrusher Kommoda E-Bike. The Monsal trail used to be the Midland railway one of the main railway routes across the Pennines in the North of England. It is now a cycle trail. This route goes through the Peak district. It takes in some stunning railway architecture. Railway tunnels and railway viaducts all along the river Wye. We also see the remnants of the Buxton Limestone industry. This is one of Britains finest cycleways

I walked the Monsal trail nearly 40 years ago from the Monsal Head to Millers Dale, the tunnels were blocked so it was do down to the river side. I remember the remains of several water mills along the route, beautiful route.

I used to travel this line on weekends when doing my National Service signals training at Woodhouse Eaves near loughborough. It was surely the most scenic of all railway routes in the UK. After the line was closed as part of the Beeching cuts it eventually became the Monsall Trail and though it is a linear trail it can be used as part of many circular walks around this beautiful part of the country. The scenery is truly breathtaking and my wife and I have done every conceivable circular walk along this old railway line over the years. I'm 87 now and my walking days are behind me but this video brought back some wonderful memories for me. I was never able to traverse the tunnels because they were all sealed in my time and Martin has revealed what I had missed all those years ago.

Great video Sir. James is a star in the making, and very wise in wearing a safety helmet on that rocket propelled bicycle. health and safety apart, the scenery is stunning and the railway architecture speaks for itself. Thank you for evoking some truly magnificent memories of our wonderful railway heritage. I challenge you to bake some home made pastries for the refreshment section of your next video. Come on. Get baking. Let's see some Manchester tart coming out of the tuck box. Some Parkin or some bonfire toffee.

A really fun departure from your usual outings to be biking through tunnels instead of wading or crawling. That bike looked super nice and sturdy, but great to be able to hire one too. Greetings to all of you renegades, and a demerit to James for smashing the brew flask! 😡 Gorgeous scenery and what a great day for it! A grand day out! And I almost felt I'd been there. 👍

Great video again prompting many happy memories. A mate and I used to camp just down the road from Miller's Dale station and spent many happy evenings in the Dale Hotel pub just below the station. We often met up with fellow walkers and climbers from Manchester, Nottingham and Stockport some of whom were known, collectively, as the Mole Herders - God knows why. An important part of these events was to warn the landlord and landlady Percy and Dorothy) that we were coming so that they could get additional beer supplies in. I think the pub staff and regulars enjoyed the additional company although I recall getting to the pub first and on my own on one occasion to be greeted by Percy with 'Where's t'other bugger?' Happy days.

'Lock the doors and windows Martha, he's joined a bike gang!'. 'He ain't so tough, Henry, he's put the front mudguard on back to front'. Only been to Monsall Dale twice, once in 98 on the mountain bike, once with my folks in the 60's. Peaks, type 2's and the Blue Pullman in the wild.....years later passing the bit at Blackwell Mill and the old station there on the curve, going on the odd job to Buxton, seems ethereal and dreamscape now. The atmosphere on the route in a freezing fog is truly something else, you can feel the weight of the silence. BTW there is likely a way to unlock the 1Lw of that motor, but bye bye battery!

Martin, you are so lucky to live in a place with so much history and great countryside to explore -- you will never runout of content for your channel. Where I live is great, but the history only goes back to about the late 1890's. The unboxing of the bike reminded me of the "flashlight / torch" unboxing, that must have been a few years back now? It looks like you had a perfect day for today's explore, wish I was there to also enjoy. Also, great use of old B&W photos to help tell the story. I see that as a child James's family didn't provide singing lessons. mike......

Keep the E-Bike well secured and with the most expensive lock you can find. I recently read an article in The Guardian about increasing cycle thefts. The police are getting flack over it because the have up to now treated cycle theft as a minor crime but it is not so minor if you are miles from anywhere when some toe rag takes your bike. I bought a length of bolt cutter proof chain from the motorcycle dealers that used to trade at the Whitworth Street end of Deansgate. A policeman coming round to give advice suggested chaining all my bikes in my garden shed together to make removal almost impossible. Of course the thief could use a battery powered angle grinder but I think you would notice this and in any case our dogs then and now would go ballistic at a stranger´s presence around our house. The lock and chain I used was very heavy, a noticeable presence in my panier but essential. U shackle locks are a waste of rime as the steel can be smashed open or prized apart with a small car jack. Obviously no security is 100%, you can only make life difficult and slow the buggers down.
