Rain is the third and final piece of an audio-visual series set in a near-future London of 2050. As London’s population expands over 10 million, it’s population will be forced to adapt its relationship to the city. For the well-being of inhabitants, free, public spaces for connecting beyond the human world are integral for people to pause and reflect.
I am interested in how a sense of space can be expanded, and building infrastructure used as access points to more-than-human “mindscapes”. In an interview with Mott MacDonald graduate engineers Iro Mytareli, Junshi Wace, and Riya Taylor, I learned about Fluid Mechanics - the flow of liquids through space.
Fluid Mechanics is used to minimize interactions with the elements passing through the city. I am interested in whether we could re-frame our use of physics, to collaborate with the elements in between the city's buildings to engage with a new sense of space. Would composing the way wind, sun and rainfall through urban space help connect the inhabitants to the more-than-human movement and energy of the city?
