KTM 790 Adventure | IMHO the very best art of Adventure motorcycle riding is meeting, and riding with others. I travel from the Northeast to South Dakota for an annual week of riding with like-minded individuals. See how warm and toasty this trip is in late September. - Frank

South Dakota is a great place to go! I know a group of guys that have gone in September for several years in a row. I can see the allure of leaving early before the sun comes up; however, it doesn’t look very safe. A good aux light setup might help. The wind beats the crap out of you.

Hello Tim, they are all great guys, well maybe not the guy from Central New York... But he is OK. The video may nto show it well, but the KTM headlight gives me great visibility. I was riding the Honda at night yesterday, I believe my flashlight throws a wider beam of light... - Frank

Tim V1000! I never get up early, it must be a genetic safeguard.

I know only riding in the plains states. I am looking forward to hitting other states soon. Cruising gravel and pavement on the Minnesota/North Dakota border was always windy. No trees to block the wind. I have been in Iowa the last 41 years, so not a ton different

Frank! Looks like a great time, I hate when you need, to sleep but can't shut off the mind, best to head out. Anymore it seems like there are more trucker than passenger cars. I'm always worried about hitting road debris when it's that dark especially in the summertime when huge chunks of tires peal of the Semi tires due to the heat. Laughed at the highway parking lot scene, it happens quite a bit.

The benefit of traveling alone is you get to leave when you're ready, even if it's before the sun comes up! I haaate driving through Chicago. Doing it on a bike is a different kind of nightmare, I'm sure. The earlier the better, through there in my opinion. I laugh uncontrollably like a madman in those heavy cross winds!I have the same reaction on rollercoasters. Looking forward to the next installment!

I admire your fortitude and enjoy seeing the adventure. I think that I will never experience that extreme long distance haul. By choice.

For all the grief I get for buying a heavyweight ADV bike that is an example of why I like bigger bikes when crossing the country. Yeah you pay for that extra weight off-road but on road in high winds and around 18 wheelers it's nice to not get blown around like a rag doll like moped riders 😂🏍

I disagree with leaving early though I do say it can be risky for another reason. You mentioned human reasons, Truckers, early bird employees, for me the thing that absolutely scares me about riding early in the morning, and at dusk is deer. Ive had numerous close calls. Ive only hit one in a car but its something I dont want to do on a bike
