Why do I want to sleep in the rain?
Firstly, the sun ceases to shine in the rain, which blocks the production of the "night hormone" melatonin in the human body during the day. That is, the biological clock does not work on time.
Secondly, the smell of earth after rain has a calming effect on a person. As a rule, plants in dry periods secrete special oils, presumably blocking the growth of seeds in conditions of water shortage. Rain washes out these oils, mixing them with geosmin, an organic substance produced by bacteria, which is just responsible for the earthy smell. As a result, a new, special smell with a relaxing effect is created.
The third reason may be ozone after a thunderstorm - a modification of oxygen consisting of triatomic molecules. And finally, the rhythmic noise of the rain itself. According to scientists, the fall of raindrops creates a so-called pink noise. This is one of the background noises, the same as white noise, sounding in the range from 20 Hz to 20 thousand Hz. According to some reports, pink noise improves a person's sleep by reducing brain activity. Scientists cannot confirm their findings with laboratory studies, but suggested that the doubters conduct a personal experiment and sit for half an hour at the window, listening to the sound of rain.
