It's the Year 2058, and A.I have taken the world by storm. But what does it take for an A.I to kill? Detective Ray Light must investigate the murder of technological tycoon and philanthropist Orion Charles, who was killed by his own creation in this tense SCI-FI thriller, Rain.
Written and directed by Aindriü Green and created by the students of Stuttgart Media University, this film was made to explore the consequences of artificial intelligence and the digital revolution of technology.

Once i figured out why the A.I. killed it's Owner I could see why someone might question. Which life is more important, especially in a World where plant life is little to existence. A.I. did it's job. Great Film!

I have to disagree to agree... One life is not more important than the other, no matter how mundane...all life is important... You can kill millions of people in one place that has no effect on one blade of grass elsewhere... It can be set that if that blade of grass disappears(killed) than so does all of humanity... You never really know.... I hope that is not the scenario,as well as many others,I'm sure... Who can tell though?!?

@@SkymaxVisuals AI would need the planet in good order as much as we do. There's the conflict. They would probably assess the resources globally, assess the demand. And we don't. I think they'd see that as a threat. They could try negotion but politics is often warped and failure could be expected. Next step would be to force the issue. Cyber attacks would cripple human society. And the AI could reside anywhere, in multiple systems across the world. Just a thought...

This was good. It is memorable. So few things in life are memorable. But this was thoughtful, and intelligent, and clever. Discussion of morality and philosophy, so interesting. And brilliantly acted, especially the character of Luna. The interrogation of the AI worked surprisingly well as a plot. This short will stay with me.

By saving the forest Luna is saving not only humans but all life. Photosynthesis and cellular respiration are the mirror images of the same chemical equation. Enigmatic film.

When you program your AI device, you can't be giving it unclear or conflicting instructions. You may not like how it interprets them. Follow the sci fi examples where there is a hierarchy of protocols in the instructions. Even this will have it's problems though, such as when an AI is defending the evil-doer.

Scientists throw shit backfire again themselves. They created high quality performing AI guardians for that purpose. What the hell they install it anyway when they not allow it to eliminate the targets. It is impossible to protect someone from another dangerous people's try to kill your friends or family. Scientific sometime stupid. Not good at there propaganda. Sometime i hate scientists, specially therapy and psychiatrist is the worst in Science Concept

Very true indeed, it is dependent on a lot of variables. I was nineteen when I wrote and directed this film so I guess the story is only as strong as its writer. However, I like to think that in the real world, many gobsmacking things occur in unison to lead to the cataclysmic events that happen. @@SkymaxVisuals I think what struck me most was the depth of compassion, of humanity, shown by the non-human towards her soon-to-be killer. Ironic though it was, it paled in comparison to the absolute lack of compassion, or any feeelings at all, really, he might have felt for her. His parting words to her about whether her death would be painful, showed a callous indifference to her or any fear she might have been experiencing. Rathe than offering a simple "no" to her question, he said, "I don't know." The only feeling shown at the end was his smile when he looked at her parting gift, a plant. Technically, it was very well done, from the minimalist colorless set (the interrogation room) to the quality of the acting. The performance of Ms Gamburg, especially is beautiful to watch. At the risk of being redundant, "Outstanding!"

Sorry Ariel that you didn't get it. Orion (the bald guy) promised he would stop destroying the planet and gave Luna (the A.I) a gift which was the plant. Then he betrayed her by burning a forest so Luna killed him. Hope this helps. I'd be happy to answer any further questions 😄

I dreamed of being an astronaut when I was younger but settled for 30 years in Aerospace and a license to fly several different aircraft. What struck me most about the movie is that I "felt" the story as I watched it. Thank you so much for a movie that *I* believe is definitely worth watching again. Sure, it wasn't perfect, but I'll not nitpick over extraneous minutae when the message of the movie is so wonderfully clear. Bravo! 😁

@@SkymaxVisuals Hm...there were several: Cessna 172, 182, 185F, 310R, Piper Cherokee Warrior, Saratoga, Seneca IV, Meridian, Malibu, Beech King Air B200, and a few others that slip my mind right now. I logged about 4300 hours total over several years. Too expensive to fly now, but I sure had a blast!

@@heisenbergfilms9 For this particular film we used a Black Magic Cinema Camera and Premiere Pro for the editing software, but it is all about lighting. If you have actors and nice lighting it makes the film look good :)

You certainly are correct Kira, there are flaws in the instructions and laws created by man. The detective could have narrowed it down a lot sooner too, yet his emotions and hatred towards A.I is yet another obstacle in helping him conclude the investigation. Humans are imperfect and those consequences are a result of those causes.

We’ll I’m confused! A although not crazy about the prospect of AI being that girl, he was mad she killed, he decided she should be deactivated, yet he told her about his wife, he accepted her plant. Now why would he accept a gift from an AI he despises for not being human. I would’ve thought he’d reveal nothing about his wife as AI don’t feel anything, let alone accept a gift from one. So is his hatred for AI real or for show.

"Ray" opening up to a 'droid is just ridiculous... His A.I. "hatred" mirrors Detective Spooner's in "I, Robot", when the robot decided to save him instead of the little girl Sarah... "Will it hurt?" - Sonny to Dr. Calvin, "I, Robot" So many rip-offs of "I, Robot". Did someone see the movie, and decide to cherry-pick things from it?

GREAT, yet another one of the only three legal scifi themes = HAL attacks. There are massive tons of great science fiction out there. Why can't vid makers read some?

I like to think that this film is more than just 'HAL attacks'. The main theme was that Luna had a choice and acted on her own accord. I agree that there are many great stories out there and I wrote this script as it came to me and it felt right. There are also many elements when it comes to film production and sometimes it's difficult to include them all in order to create a coherent piece for the audience. So it's a shame you saw this film as a 'HAL attacks', however, thank you for taking the time to watch it and all opinions are as valuable as each other. Filmmaking is a skilful and lengthy process, only one can improve on. Have a fantastic day!

This was more of a "HAL protecc". She was just protecting remaining plantlife. It's an understandable reason, and not some rogue murderous robot. If plant life on the earth was endangered and this guy is burning more of it, many humans might have done the same exact thing.

Yes I agree. It is focusing more on the choice and the outcomes of an artificial intelligence’s decisions rather than their pure desire to kill, but I suppose everyone interprets the story differently.

ha. I had to rewatch it about 5 times to catch it. what an odd coincidence to center the shot right there... Like no one caught that? no one said, "Hey, maybe we should shoot a face profile or something else?"

@@p0rnany0ne I don't think I worded my reply very well. Lorraine thought the position of the shot was to objectify Luna, but it's purpose was to not show her face until Ray (the detective) sat down. It was to build suspense and a little anticipation. It wasn't intended to highlight females in that kind of light. It's a shame that people see our movie as purposely sexualising women. The actress who played Luna (Anna Gamburg) certainly did not feel that way during the shoot or the result of the film.

The detective was weird and his interrogation skills were dreadful. Couldn't feel any empathy for him. The storyline asks important questions of the whole AI technology thing. So it served it's purpose well but to be honest I didn't like the film.
