Thanks very much for the very helpful video AND for making it easy to obtain the discs, Mine arrived in only a few days and I installed them in 5 minutes this morning! The old ones had been there for 9 years and were indeed crapped out. We had a heavy rainstorm this afternoon and within few minutes, the big X showed up and the system was shutoff. Really thankful for your expertise being available on RU-vid for making it easy to get th discs!
The plastic rain sensor units tend to get brittle exposed to sunlight. In addition, the switch at the base of the unit which the expanded discs press on tend to wear out. I replaced the entire unit of my orbitz for 12.99. Spending a few more bucks replacing the unit may be the better way to go.
I have a WR2 sensor and need to replace the discs but I also noticed that the spindle is broken so I need the new spindle as well. Do you sell that or is this part available somewhere else?
I'm not sure if you are still tracking this channel but I'm missing the white portion that holds the discs. I've been looking everywhere on the internet and can't find one.
So the spindle that comes with the Rain Bird WR2 that the discs are on, broke near the top where they spread out. It seems that Rain Bird doesn't make a replacement and there is none that I can see anywhere. How do you replace or fix this with buying an entire new unit?
It’s kind a work but not 100%. The original one are 6 disk slightly more thicker and it worked perfect. I have replaced them with 7 discs because this one are little thinner. It doesn’t matter how much rain I get on the display never goes all the way up with one lane. I tried to use 8 discs and now doesn’t matter how much sun I get it never goes all the way down. Always shows 3mm of rain or 1 lane
My Irrigation supply company says there's no replacement parts, this guy is a joke. Can replace the transmitter for $52 or replace the whole trans/receiver for $62, rainbird is a joke
I don't have any of the stems... however, it might still work depending on how much damage the soccer ball did... did it just break the barbs off the top of the spindle, or did it break the spindle in half?

When these discs get wet, the discs expand (and get thicker). The spindle will then press down on a microswitch in the rain sensor that is wired into your irrigation controller and that will prevent the sprinkler system from turning on while it is raining. When it stops raining, it will take anywhere from a few hours to a few days (depending on weather conditions) for the discs to dry out and shrink back to normal thickness. This will release the microswitch and your sprinkler system will be turned on again.
