Although I LOVE Dia de los Muertos art so much, I immediately dismissed getting her because of the price. I also wondered if she might end up going on clearance at some point. I do regret that they painted her face. I would have loved her to be a Latina girl celebrating her holiday with a mask and dressed up very special and beautifully and traditionally. Again, I love her name Maria Garcia.
I did order the this doll and received her a couple of days ago. I personally love her. I did get a very good one. Makeup was very good and the cloths were well done. I would have like to have seen that she had a mask instead of the face paint but the face paint is nice. She is over priced and I think $99 would have been more realistic price. I am sure that lot of extra cost is due to the packaging. I do like the art but I never keep the packaging so for me the value is not there. That said it is my understanding that they only made 15k of these so I have a feeling that she will not go on sale any time soon. I could be wrong out that but I did see that a few weeks ago. Who knows. Love watching your channel. I have died about 50 dolls at this point and your videos got me started in that. So big thank you!
Ahh I’m so glad I could help inspire you! Dyeing them is so addictive because it’s really relaxing but exciting at the same time! I agree, I could’ve dealt better with $99. And yeah, I guess this packaging is going in the attic because I can’t throw it away but I also have no room for it 😩
Mia I really appreciated this video. I learned a lot and admire the wisdom you gave. You are very transparent here as well. I honestly thought a mask would have been the way to go. I'm just not attracted to her. If I wanted to buy her I would. I spent 2 years going to Mexico with my church ministry. My first husband was half Mexican. I love Mexican people and my brother and I went across the boarder freely... Mexico City people are very warm and welcoming. It's good to understand your roots... I can understand all the feelings in our group. It's lovely of Bear and you will always treasure the sediment. I know you are grateful for everything. You are very mindful in your presentation. I think in all honesty with your talent you could get a second doll and transform her into your vision. Hugs and love you you dear friend.❤️
I think a mask and a lower price point wouldve have made a marked improvement over how people feel about her too. It would’ve been nice is she had a more authentic dress. I do still love her though, but I can understand why most people will pass on her. The bulky light up box actually detracts from her more than it adds. I love how much you’ve traveled and enjoyed other cultures! That is goals. I hope to travel a lot in the years to come because I love exploring and trying new stuff with Bear, he makes everything more enjoyable just by being there. Love you too! 💖💖💖
Thank you so much for this review, the art and quality of the doll are beautiful (the embroidery on the lace of the bottom of the dress is amazing). Thank you for explaining why she’s not culturally accurate and how she’s more American-costumey. You definitely showed the doll in more detail than anyone else I’ve seen (I didn’t know she had that embroidery on the bottom of her lace-I can’t get over that!)
The embroidery is so beautifully detailed, I still can’t understand why they hid away such a cool part of her! Same with her boots- they are the best RH shoes I’ve seen so far and they’re hidden as well!
Amazing review Mia but I agree I don’t think she’s worth the price point these deluxe dolls are getting more expensive with less outfits and accessories it’s sad 🥺the rainbow diva girls got loads for £35! It’s madness tbh xxx
Yeah, honestly the Divas had incredible dresses, super nice second outfits, quite a few accessories, and a normal box for a drastically lower price, and this box isn’t exciting enough to justify the price difference at all.
She is definitely much more “American-influenced” than she is Mexican style. I think that’s why so many Mexican/Mexican American collectors just weren’t feeling her.
I don’t know what the doll should have looked like, although I LOVE DOTD art. I was delighted when I learned her name is Maria Garcia, making her a relatable girl.
I’ve seen a couple of BEAUTIFUL artistic re-renderings of her by artists on FB that really show the direction MGA could’ve gone with her with a little extra thought and care.
Not sure if MGA can make everyone happy, or anyone. At this point they might not do any other cultures and i wouldn't blame them. As a lot of work goes into the dolls.
Definitely, I mean the detail on the box art is really amazing and beautiful and I think probably a lot of time and money and energy went in to designing just that aspect alone! But yeah, cultural stuff really isn’t an easy subject to approach in America in this day and age without a LOT of research and even then it isn’t always satisfying to everyone.
She really should have come with a second outfit that was like a blouse, vest, and pants that go with the hat and boots. And a pair of open toe heels to go with the dress. The black lace pieces should have been on the top of the red.
The new Roxie Grand doll had better be much cheaper than the OMG holiday doll, that’s for sure, or I see a lot of people probably skipping out on her too.
I'm adopted too! I am also part Spanish Mexican and didn't grow up knowing this until a couple years ago. we always wondered but then I did the ancestry dna to figure out my background. great review Mia!

I’m wondering if it’s because she’s an online only doll, but still usually Amazon has decent sales on RH, so I’m surprised we haven’t seen one on Lily yet.
