Love Zippy. We had a supply teacher at school who talked like zippy. The more you laughed, the angrier he got and as he got louder the more hilarious his voice became. Viscous cycle really
21 here lol. So glad I’m not the only one past the shows intended audience age that still watches this. Brings back a lot of nostalgia from my childhood. We had all the rainbow series on VHS. I just used to sit in front of the tv for hours on end, oblivious to the rest of the world. Time well spent
Classic programme and one that I watched as a child in the 1970s from approx 1975 onwards and beyond.......infact I watched them as a 20 year old! Here I am now watching this as a 40 year old! LOL! Great TV never dies.
my first exposure to Rainbow (the show) is someone mentioning that the evil laughing at the end of Black Sabbath's "Am I Going Insane" reminded them of Zippy from Rainbow and wanted to see what this show was like, I wouldn't have discovered this show if it wasn't for me listening to Black Sabbath's "Am I Going Insane" on RU-vid
Zippy is definitely the one who makes this show. He is such a naughty little bastard. But who wants to be a goodie all the time, anyway? If he was real, he's the sort who would grow up to be a right bastard. Probably a sexual deviant or a drug dealer. He already has the gimp mask. For decades he's been there & never changed. He's like the Austin Powers of the Chav world. Gotta love him!
Bungle is not necessarily gay. He gives that impression because he is emotionally intelligent. He would make an excellent modern family man, patient, good listener, understands where to define boundaries. Zippy is bright and energetic and shows great potential to be a successful entrepreneur in the City. George is definitely not gay, he is very macho and is so confident in his sexuality that he is able to dress in pink. The eye lashes show just how hirsute he is. My only concern is what he is doing with his arms. Geoffrey is a remarkable method actor. He really looks as if he is pretending to read the paper, a perfect caricature of a commuter on the train from Bromley.
Zippy reminds me of me when I was a wee boy but then again I'm autistic and Zippy himself shows a lot of autistic traits so that'll be why, yes I did quite to be the centre of attention when I was growing up besides tantrumming a lot if I didn't get my own way just like Zippy
Is it cruel or hilarious that I can see that? No, it's hilarious. I mean Fred Harris once gave the "Play School" toys what for after Little Ted fell over once too many times. So I can definitely see Geoffrey finally losing the rag with Zippy and Bungle.
Just watched an episode of this ...and 40 years rolled back. Zippy is still as irritating now as he was then....and he reminded me of some people in my past I wanted to throttle(!)
