Up until Tywin killed every single one of them, this song was written by bards and used as a warning to every other house, NEVER cross the Lannisters while Tywin is alive. They even mention in a lore video on the series that any time one of the Lannister Vassals was thinking of doing something against the Lannisters, Tywin would send a bard who played this song, and any thoughts of rebellion were soon stopped.

From what we know of his past at this point Tywin was a man bottling up a lot of rage and anger at the declining fortune of House Lannister and he finally got to do something about it
