I needed to raise 6 poles for my deck. They are dug in 4.5ft. I build a support frame from old scrap wood and deck screws. I also used two very heavy duty pulley and a near by tree. Inalso build a frame to hold the pole up at an angle making it easier to lift and drop in the hole. Since the pond's base was still very wet and soft I wasn't able to get the tractor down to help with the lifting the poles directly. Each pole is 20ft long and 6" diameter and about 500 lbs. Two of the poles are 16' and they didn't require additional help upright. There was some learning experience going on the whole time but by the end it became much easier. I used my old Ford tractor but a pickup truck or wench would work just as well.
