Got a 97’ f150 from Grampa with 78k miles on it. From Las Vegas NV. Took it to Seattle and the GEM went out. They say probably the humidity. I only put 4300 miles on it myself. Truck looks brand new and runs that way. I couldn’t find a single shop to fix it. The last shop that told me it wasn’t fixable-I asked him “ So with all the rain we get here in Seattle and no wipers? You’re basically telling me the truck is Totalled Right? 😅 He said YUP! Thank you for your ingenuity Sir! 🙏🙏🌧️☔️👌
Hey FYI there is a darn good reason for the extra ground on both ends if the negative e battery cable. The negative battery cable goes from the battery down to the engine block. On the engine block side it grounds over to the chassis. On the battery side it grounds over to the firewall/body. The reason for this is because these model vehicles don't have the body sitting directly on the chassis. There happens to be a rubber spacer or whatever it's called between the body and chassis. Electrical 101 tata stat rubber does not conduct electricity. The most important thing in your vehicle's electrical system is to ensure that you have equal voltage across the entire system. Because of those rubber spacer things, an extra ground has to be installed in order to complete the circuit properly across the entire vehicle and its electrical components. This is even more important with today's modern vehicles. Because, as we all know, every day, they just keep getting more and more and more electrical components added into them making it more confusing and harder to understand for most people...... So in reality that additional ground wire technically isn't extra because it is necessary
Anyone know if 97 f150 has a fuse for the washer fluid pump, or just the relay? Relay is good, pump is good, water lines are not clogged,...just not getting power to the washer pump harness. Thnx.
I fix those to re sell. Put them back to stock straighten front baffle if needed replace rear if needed, fix carburetors decks crack weld the issues your having is abuse not regular mowing. You need a commercial mower.
Thank you so much I'm in battle the same problem except for my - lights came on when I jump because I jumped it out in the fuse panel box under the hood and my part don't work thank you so much I will try that and hopefully I'll be done with this I've been working on that for a while I saw it a few connectors in the gym that were loose still the same replace the switch going it was good I replace the headlight switch and dome lights and my dome light comes on when it starts really starts working whenever it wants Hotwire then my - light door ajar and my brake light flashes at me and dings so softly when I shut it off and didn't find parking this is the first thing that made sense to bypass at gem cuz everybody I talked to her I said there's nothing but problems and you must get the right one you just can't swallow them out with other ones
Hi if you put a canopy on your boat and your 350 wat solar panel on top running to a step down converter ,,,,,solar panel puts 24volts into the step down converter into 12 volts then you can go into the battery on a clear day power all day on low speed you also can hook up a PWM SPEED CONTROLLER THIS SAVE YOUR POWER ,,,,,pwm is called a = power with modulater system ,,,,,,,
Good call on deleting the auto choke. I might do the same with mine. I have had nothing but problems with that system. From what I have read, others have that the issue where halfway through mowing, if they stop the engine and then attempt to restart, the auto choke kicks in and doesn't allow for a proper fuel/air mix. Only solution is to wait for the thermistor or whatever they use to "cool down". Over-engineering at its finest
It's 2023 and replacing my 97 F150 cable since the I had those terminals that work until they don't. Bought the same replacement cable so hopefully it goes well and this helped locate things
Watched another video which showed there are actually several 5 Amp fuses that feed the GEM module, but according to the user manual have nothing to do with the wipers. Replacing one of the 5 Amp fuses fixed that guy's wiper issue.
My 1997 f150 loses windows and wipers intermittently in winter. Sometimes they work in the auxiliary position, so I replaced the ignition module, no change. I just want to get the wipers working at low speed when they quit, the replacement GEM is not available and taking it out just to get at the wiring seems excessive. Where would I find an easier access to the wiper motor wires from under the dash?.,
Went to Murray Ford dealership looking for just relays today for 1998 F-150 and they were talking about this truck like it was ancient of days. Wonder what they would think if went in looking for something for my 1966 F-250. But yes you have helped me as I know now to stop trying to fix it with relay replacements. Looks like I can get GEMs off the internet for less than a $100 to over $200 so I've some comparison shopping to do. And I might just come back to this video and wire the wipers like you have, it's just an old farm truck with no heat and a leaky AC. My issue started out with the power windows being flakey as hell then I noticed the issue was tied to the interior lights and at 1 point I thought the wipers were in sync with the issue too however I came to realize that the wipers weren't always tied to the windows&inside lights.
From the battery to the bolt at 18 seconds,...it just caught on fire on me,so my question to you is before tomorrow morning til I can fix it, do you have any idea what might have caused this?and what is the best way at fixing it cheapest and painless as I can?
I made some last year. Some of those the screw gave way and was putting out 80 volts. Luckily I tested them with a meter before using them. This stuff is outside anything I know. Are there any boards that don’t have to be adjusted and will only put out 12 volts? I am worried one of the adjustment screw will give up when connected to my camera and burn it up.
I'm probably going to have to do the same thing here soon. Could I just use 2 switches? What happens if I leave those 2 wires connected but splice in the wires from the switch so if I fix the GEM they'll still work like normal? Is there not a way to feed power so the regular wiper switch still works?
Concert610 if I wanted to wire up a switch to bypass the GEM and I wanted to wire in an in-line fuse, what amp fuse should I use? Thank you anyone who might know?

if you buy the motocraft replacement battery cable that bitch is like 380 bucks... it's just wires and wire loom... there's not even 20 dollars worth of copper. fuckin' motorcrap
Great job, You can also leave the wiper unplugged from regular factory harness and hardwire the wiper motor direct to the Battery with one or 2 speeds direct to a toggle switch as wiper motors run on very little amps and alot of cars dont even have a relay for the wiper motors, would not even need an inline fuse all though I would just incase.
