Thanks for a well made video. I just wanted to share I've raised orphaned piglets and someone told me that evaporated milk diluted 50/50 w water works great. I've never lost one so far. Also goat milk is a bit more expensive. Plus most of the times people have evaporated milk on hands in their household, so the need to rush out to buy the goatmilk isn't necessary. Anyway I'm raising four wild piglets right now and they're happy and chubby.
what would I do for a piglet that is a little older about 2 weeks old that is orphaned? It wont drink from a bottle and i cant get it to drink anything or eat for a saucer
I raised a runt, Pearl. I can't remember how old she was when I got her at a fair on a whim. Her siblings were not letting her eat or drink and were beating her up. She was a bit bigger than your pig but not a lot. The farmer laughed and said she was gonna die when we got her. I bottle fed her on goats milk and tucked her in at night. At the end she was 250lbs. I'm not a homesteader. I learned not to buy livestock that you can't keep as pets.
I just did what you have, randomly got this runt piggy that was needing to be bottle fed from a couple who was downsizing there homestead and needed someone to take her they had no time knowing NOTHING about having one still don’t she’s only 2weeks I have her inside my home she is kunekune boar. Any tips or things I should know? lol I’ve been keeping her warm and fed goat milk with egg yolk and I just gave her a strawberry she LOVED
I am raising a "runt" that the other pigs wouldn't allow to nurse. When we brought him in he was to weak to stand. One bottle feeding of colostrum supplement from TCS was enough to get him back on his feed. We fed him the entire bag. We would mix the "milk" with oatmeal and sometimes grits. He is growing like a weed. After the colostrum supplement was gone we switched to powdered milk from the grocery store. We pour the milk into his oatmeal and he loves it. We will start feeding him corn in his oatmeal in a few days then cornmeal with corn before putting him back with his family who will be weaned by then.

2018 I hope things worked out well for all ! What time of year was this and what area of the country ? Temperature is VERY important. 60-65 F for sow, 85-90 F for newborns. I assume the sow was outdoors, not in an enclosure with pens made for birthing ? Heart-breaking loosing so many. Goats milk is the ticket with certain additives. Can't remember the gruel recipe the neighbor made for them at 1 1/2 wks but boy did they scrap over it !
If you do it right, it is fine. But I will say this, if you bottle feed too long and they get used to human interaction, it is hard to integrate them back into their herd.

@@bigbearhomestead yes, I took in a runt miniature piglet that the people were going to dispose of. He was 7 days when I got him. He is now 14 days I have him on the powder replacement from tractor supply. I don't know if he ever got anything from Momma pig. He is doing really well has lots of spunk in him now.

Give them something that is going to loosen things up, like maple syup but thin it out. with the formula if that doesn't work then they have some stuff at Tractor supply.
