I have raised many types of birds in the past, but not since I started making videos for RU-vid. I plan on doing a small series regarding pheasant as I raise them. I hope to provide some good information for those of you thinking about raising birds and some interesting footage for everyone else. Enjoy!

Chickens can be friendly if you handle them often enough as they grow. Order hens only. Roosters are less friendly. They can't really hurt an adult but they could peck a kid in the eye.
@Nighthawkinlight
@Nighthawkinlight 14 лет назад
@keylockkid They are fairly simple to raise. You will not be able to find a supplier that will order you just one, but you may be able to find another buyer who would sell you a few from their larger order.
@Nighthawkinlight
@Nighthawkinlight 14 лет назад
@DarkEcho419 A good deal on pheasant would be $2.50 per bird. They take about 6 months to fully mature, but they are old enough to be released in about half that time.
@Nighthawkinlight
@Nighthawkinlight 13 лет назад
@TopOfTheLine3 I bought them to release. Wild birds have it in their instincts to survive in the wild. It doesn't matter if they are raised in captivity.
@Nighthawkinlight
@Nighthawkinlight 14 лет назад
@keylockkid The hatchery hatches the eggs then ships them out a day or two later to local feed suppliers. I ordered them a month ago.
@Nighthawkinlight
@Nighthawkinlight 13 лет назад
@cgspeeddemon1 Yes, a raccoon killed them. This would have been the third time I had raised pheasant to adults if they had survived. There isn't much to it, they simply need the proper feed, water, and the males need to be separated or released as they get older. Any feed store that sells the chicks in the spring should tell you all you need to know. Next summer my plans are to buy more.

@davejohnson3 I haven't checked the starter protein, I've never had any problems using any wild game starter. One light is fine for 40 birds, but my bin is indoors at the moment. They need 95 drgrees the first week and around 90 after that. It's better that the lights are too close than too far away. If they're too close the birds will just move toward the edge and be fine, but if they're too far away they'll get cold and die. Also, don't use wood shavings, turns out they kill pheasant.
@Nighthawkinlight
@Nighthawkinlight 14 лет назад
@fireworkgalore I split an order of 100 with another individual and the hatchery was 10 short on shipping. One died in transit making 89, split in two I took the 44. I would like to replenish the local population, as well as keep some for their eggs.
@Nighthawkinlight

@Hissatsu5 Nope, it's possible to tame just about anything. Tame meaning that they are not shy nor aggressive towards humans. You can 'tame' a cat, but lets see one that plays fetch.
@Nighthawkinlight
@Nighthawkinlight 13 лет назад
@davejohnson3 I tried shavings this year as you can see in the video and they were fine enough that the birds were eating them and many died. If you're using actual chips from a wood chipper you may not have that problem, but these shavings have caused significant loss in numbers. In the past I have always used plain paper and had no problems but I switched to shavings on a recommendation from the feed store. I guess they had never raised pheasant themselves because it was a disaster.

@Konsolenrocker08 It's plenty large until they grow more. They need to keep together for heat at this age.

when i was with my grandparents, one hen made some chickens. we just made little place for them and the hen, preventing other chicks getting in. the hen warmed them up, and first days we fed them with hard boiled eggs. then we gave both seeds and eggs, then only seeds. for water we put some water in a can, with upside down glass, so it forms narow spot of water around. we did it due to lack of rocks. for the first night, while other were in eggs, we kept them in box with warm bootle of water.

Mama pheasant took her chicks to stay in my garden while the tractor sprayed pesticide in the nearby fields. One chick didn't seem as able as the others at walking around and pecking insects etc. It's about a few days old, I wonder if I could raise it in a box with seed and water then release it later? Or just leave it to fend for itself in garden. It seems to get left behind a lot and can't walk without fallin over. For now, I have found the nest in my garden and put the either injured or late hatched chick in the nest. Mama pheasant and the other chicks are wandering round the garden and they all get to go under her, except the above chick. Any advice would be appreciated!

If you wanted to release the Pheasant to the wild as in doing propagation., would birds raised in this manner be able to find food on thier own aftre being feed like this? Can they find food on thier own in the wild after being "pen raised" per say?

so it is my understanding the pheasant chicks died right? have you givin up or will you be trying again? i was really looking forward to seeing them to adulthood and gaining the valuable info about them. currently ia m drilling a water well in az for a guy that has a private pheasant hunting ranch but he wont tell me anything about them so as to stop future compition and im EXTREMELY interested in the process of raising them.

Hi yesterday I pulled a swimming/drowning pheasant chick out of my pond and was wondering if you could offer some advice? It looks younger than your ones here as it can barely walk. I would like to raise it to release it back into the woods behind my house but after just one day and night with me it is becoming very friendly. From what I can tell it is a young male. Do you think I could raise it to fend for itself? any help much appreciated, can upload vid/pics if needed
@valj0628
@valj0628 5 лет назад
Sorry for no one responding to you your comment but let me help. Since you basically saved the pheasant you should keep it if the mother is nowhere in sight then you should keep it. I suggest getting a box but I wouldn't put pine in it because I had 3 pheasants and 2 died so I had to raise 1 and it's been fine ever since I took out the pine. Get a heat lamp or something that gives off heat and put it near it give it food like chick food and water. Also, put some electrolytes in the water. That's my advice.
