My wife has the same exact attachment for her KitchenAid for grinding meat and we use the medium and then after that go down to the fine for grinding the meat. Oh

We have never tried grinding it the second time on the smaller one. We should so we know if it is something we would like to do. Thank you for the tip.

Rabbit and lamb are staples around here. The kids always say that rabbit is their favorite meat whenever anyone asks them.

Hi ! Oh i am way behind....rabbit serie omg. I have to catch up and watch from episode 1 ! Really interested as we have rabbits as well. Any reason why you grind it and dont keep it as is like "steak" or "cubes" ? Thanks a lot for doing this!
@HickorycroftFarm
@HickorycroftFarm 3 года назад
Hey Brigitte, thank you for watching 😃. We occasionally keep some whole legs, but our favorite part of the rabbit is the loins/sides and we usually keep them as steak type pieces that we can then cut up as we need. We eat a lot of ground rabbit so that would be why we do this really. We love rabbit tacos and it.works great for Alfredo or other pasta dishes and makes tasty burgers and meatballs. It is mostly personal preference really.

We are shopping around for a meat grinder, what brand do you use?
@HickorycroftFarm
@HickorycroftFarm 3 года назад
so we kept meaning to check the brand of our grinder as we keep in in the basement, anyways it is a Kitchener brand grinder. It works well for the amount we grind (which is more than most families probably do).

Good info, thank you! I have heard rabbit meat is very lean. Do you ever feel like the ground rabbit could use addition of other fats?
@HickorycroftFarm
@HickorycroftFarm 3 года назад
When we eat it as meatballs or burger, we cook it up the same as far as making the patties etc, but I do use olive oil in the pan as, like you said... it is so lean and sticks. Same with frying for tacos or something like that.

What’s the best parts to grind?
@HickorycroftFarm
@HickorycroftFarm 2 года назад
We usually grind the meat from the front legs, the belly flaps and hind legs on older rabbits. Sometimes we even debone the younger rabbits hind legs to grind if we don't need them in the freezer. Ground meat is so quick and easy and the kids love it.

Culling an animal is getting rid of the "undedirable" ones. Dispatching is killing them for consumption. Dispatching is the same as slaughtering them. Probably not important for your purposes, but others may be confused, since that actually mean something different. Thanks for the video.
@HickorycroftFarm
@HickorycroftFarm Год назад
You are right culling is simply taking that animal out of the breeding pool so to speak. For us that 99% of the time does mean dispatching them for consumption i.e. keep the best and eat the rest kind of mentality I suppose. Semantics can be important and you are right it can be confusing. Glad you did enjoy the video!
