That’s the impact of a good movie. Must entertain and rivet you to the seat. Same experience in 1989 in Singapore. A Chinese family with 2 young children visit my friend’s home for Deepavali. None of them knew Tamil, and have never seen a Tamil movie. Usually Deepavali visits will take an hour or less. This family did not leave until the end credits. Apart from the plot, characters and the comedy, what also glued them was the fact that Kamal did 3 different roles. They thought it was 3 different actors, one of which they thought was a man with afflictions. Remember this was before CGI, so it was difficult for them to understand the experience! I think they would’ve walked away within 5 minutes of a Rajini movie of the time.
