Rajat was not a broker nor wall street guy.During the 2008 meltdown there was lot of public pressure on bring wall street exec. to justice. Goldman sacks & Justice dept. got together and found a very thing narrow case against Rajat. A honest man with a incredible reputation ended up in jail. Rajat is humble person, finally found time reading the cusp of bagavadgita in jail. A winner through out his life in achievements sometime has to swallow a bitter pill in 70's. Good to see you back Rajat.

I wish I could let you know that I have read this book. And I believe it. And I feel very sorry but at the same time very much inspired. Book is written so honestly, and laid out your life so well that everyone can relate to it at certain level and learn their own lessons.

If what I understand is Rajaratnam refused to wear wires to wiretap Rajat. Gupta should be great full for that.

Rajaratnam is a great man though he'd made a profit in an illegal trading. He didn't point out at any others who were also actually involved in the scheme. He rejected the offer of reduced sentence that if he was testifying against this man

@19:15, Mr. Gupta states that Lloyd did not remember that GS financial was discussed in board meeting. Is not it true that board meetings are recorded [either electronically or short hand?]

As someone who worked in management consulting for 10+ years, I would NOT characterise his disclosure as merely "careless". It was completely, completely, completely WRONG. Any employee of McKinsey, BCG, Bain or even other consulting firms would be fired without question for such disclosure. And of COURSE this was insider information, no question about it. Rajat violated the trust of his clients, and of the company he led. He is guilty, it's time he admitted it.

Listening to your interview, it is very clear that you are a good man at your core. Your heart is in the right place. Your achievements and contributions have been outstanding. That being said, you do need to come to terms with the facts and reality, and make peace with it. Insider Trading is a horrible thing. Patently unfair. This game has been played at the highest level and some get caught. Calling the US Justice system a liar is not right. A small number of uber rich people benefit enormously at the expense of the small retail investor. It is unfair and unethical. I hope God gives you the strength to embrace and reconcile with the truth and facts. Being in denial will prolong your internal struggles. It can be liberating. Best Regards.

He didn't said US legal system is liar. What he said was that the prosecutors are political animals with unchecked powers.

@@thirdman1228 Best advise! Keep it to yourself. Don't assume US system is paragon of virtues and free of corruption. At best they institutionalized the corruption in the form of lobbying, donations to political parties and providing political positions to public prosecutors (mark my words, self loathing Indian - Preeth will end up contesting on behalf of Democrats sooner or later).

Rajat Gupta is trying to be too clever by half. Raj Rajaratnam made a trade worth millions in shares minutes before the stock markets closed for the day, after that crucial 16 second call from Rajat Gupta. Raj Rajaratnam was waiting for corroboration abt what was already being speculated in the public domain. And he suddenly had conformation from a board member that Warren Buffet was investing in Goldman Sachs. That call from the tipper resulted in windfall gains for the tippee.

He should have not have gone for jury trial. He should have opted for a trial by a Judge. A judge would have applied the law without any emotions. A Ny jury is not going to be sympathetic to a wealthy immigrant of Indian origin

He is clearly a very persuasive storyteller. He's been in McKinsey after all and also may have some interest in pedagogy seeing as he invested in ISB. He has been doing a bunch of interviews with this pattern where most of the journalists accept his story on face value. Which would be ok in every situation other than one where he has been convicted and his verdict confirmed at every level of appeal available in the US. It behooves them to switch on their bullshit meter but I am thinking they have to do the research to be able to because he is a smart man and can run rings around them and escape. The audiotapes, accepted as evidence in the US courts, are very clear. He did discuss board meetings way too freely with Rajratnam and as a board member he should not have. And while unrelated to insider trading, he did know what Rajratnam was paying Anil Kumar that 1 million dollars for. He can say in hindsight that everyone else's interpretation of those convos except his own is wrong but the verdict was given and that's that.

@abhitechie Nobody said though that he was the biggest criminal in US. And he didn't get the worst sentencing either. Rajaratnam himself got worse and so did Madoff. What I find rankling about Gupta's attitude is he refuses to even acknowledge that perhaps he was indiscreet with privileged information. He may or may not believe what he did was insider trading but from an ethical standpoint, he can't say he did no wrong.
