+Matt G freestyle was something else back then not off the head just some rhyming whithout song structure and just shows off rhyme skill. Not trying to detract from the god that is Rakim just some info, rappers still so this type of freestyle on radios ect, why not write a short verse that shows off your use of poetic devices
Yep because back then, you had to be underground and make a name for yourself. There weren't many scouts of major labels going around trying to find emcees in the grimy clubs in the 80s.That was more of a 90's into 00's phenomenon and now, it's strictly about the most streamlined, idiotic "rap". At least in the mainstream. The music is just crap too, no soul or feel. With stupid sounding auto-tune on vocals, to top it off. Rakim did it right and never left his roots as a true lyricist with a killer flow, even today.
because snoop understand the game.. and he have respect for Rakim, he choose his own philosophy instead of jay z and P diddy choose for the system to sell their soul.
My lyrics make me a menace when it's in a sentence then it's finished. More pure than raw, much more above the law, I don't go on tour, I go to war. Stompin comp who flaunt a similar style, rhymes attack now they want rap exiled. Cuz every word I said'll be deadly, a MC murderer, science is steadily givin me new ways and methods, melodies and medleys, weapons for records. Tactics lethal perhaps it's illegal scorchin I'm torchin em cuz that's how we do. Set ya entire empire on fire so gimme a mic without a wire. Cuz every dose is highly explosive. Mr. Dynamite, the man with most of the blueprints and master plans and potential, data processed stored in the mental, then I get physical and hit ya with another hit, the brothas it and nothins equivalent.
Rakim has transcended fire. Dude is ICE COLD. He raps cool, calm and collected but he has such power behind his voice. He can utter a sentence and send chills down your spine without even yelling. He really is the god MC. All hail Rakim!
Lyrics make me a menace When it's in a sentence then it's finished More pure than raw, much more above the law I don't go on tour, I go to war Stompin' COMP performance that flaunt a similar style Rhymes attack, now they want Rap exile Cause every word I said'll be deadly An MC murderer, science is steadily Giving me new ways and methods Melodies and medleys, weapons for records Tactics lethal, perhaps it's illegal Scorching, I'm torching cause that's how we do Set your entire empire on fire So give me a mic without a wire Cause every dose is highly explosive Mr. Dynamite, the man with most of The blueprints and masterplans, the potential Data process stored in the mental Then I get physical and hit you with another hit The brother's it, and nothing's equivalent
Did anyone over here notice, that the guy behind Rakim was beat boxing, and even though he wasn't audible in the mic, Rakim moved the mic a little to the right (when he says "So give me a mic without a wire") so that it can give an effect to his freestyle at that point. damn! He simply isn't the G.O.A.T
@@Ned_Hitler oh I see he was saying the brother beatboxing in the background couldn’t be picked up on the mic so he moved it towards him so it could match the Rhythm of his freestyle what a guy huh rakim was for the people
The way Rakim is so calm is incredible. I'm pretty sure this was pre-written but honestly I wouldn't be surprised if it was off the dome and he was simply flowing naturally like this. Rakim was blessed by the Gods. The true G.O.A.T.
Rappers in the 80s and early 90s had the freshest gear. Rakim and Eric B wore a lot of stuff tailored made by Dapper Dan up in Harlem. Mike Tyson wore the same gear. Back when the rappers copied the big drug dealers, that changed in the 90s with Nas and Mobb Depp wearing military gear, Biggie and Puff wearing Versace, Wu-Tang wearing baggy jeans and Tims. But Tri-State (NYC-NJ-CT) kids were doing it since the late 80s.
All the new school slang in the 90s comes from the source which is rakim. He was rapping like this since 86. Nobody was connecting their rhyme patterns like this before he invented it
I don't think he is the greatest lyricist at all. He mostly boasts about how good he is, which isn't that hard to do. He is, to me, much more known for his flow and the way he presents words and phrases within the beat. Delivery. And also his voice, very mellow and relaxed. "calm and deadly" I think he said in follow the leader. I think those are the areas that he does well.
You're kidding, right? LL Cool J was the one who kept boasting about himself too much. Rakim does it to a certain extent but not like that. Beside, when that boasting about oneself have anything to do with how lyrical one is?
Rakim was techincally one of the best, one of the best in terms of influence and one of the best in terms of the abstract concepts and metaphors in his songs that would blow your mind. But lyrically I wouldn't say he's THE best. But he's up there and probably top 5 but I don't know. Nas is up there, Reasonable Doubt era Jay-Z is incredibly slept on, people like Lupe are lyrical geniuses imo, etc
YUP MY FAV RAPPER OF ALL TIME THE LEDGE MY FAV AND PAID IN FULL AND DONT SWEAT THE TECHNICS JUST CLASSICS AND STILL TIMELESS MUSIC YUP G,O,A,T FOR SURE
The Father of : Nas, Jay z, Tupac, Biggie, Kool G Rap, Kid and Play, Busta Rhymes, The Wutang Clan, Eminem, DMX, Canibus, Big Pun, J Cole, Kendrick, Ludacris, T.I. , and Common just to name a few!
rakim was a innovator and technically a beast. ahead of his time, every emcee that follows walks in his foot steps.....2pac was a true artist, emotionally resonating but not on the same level technically or as an innovator
