Tongs are an important tool in the process of raku. However most tongs sold at ceramic stores all suffer the same problem. They loosen up and then the tongs no longer close correctly. This can lead to a dangerous situation when pulling pots out of a kiln at 1850 degrees.
I mod my tongs so that they don't separate and work safely. It shouldn't have to be done, but a poor design leads to hacks to make the ceramic life safer.
