Ten Minutes from Sunshine's performance of Rakugo at the Winter Garden Theatre in Toronto, 2013. This is where the dreams of Broadway were born! #rakugo #katsurasunshine
I’m Japanese. I wasn’t expecting much from this video because Rakugo is a very Japanese thing. However, I was pleasantly surprised with Sunshine’s performance - definitely not traditional Rakugo, but he’s ‘made the concept his own, in English’. Well done, mate.
Wow. His expressions were amazing. He took linguistic differences in his rakugo. He made most people understand the differences, then he changed the differences which are hard to understand into laugh. This is impossible, without correct orders of explanations and structures. He is not a native speaker, but he accomplished completely. This is extremely fantastic. This is worth for admiring. I LOVE HIM.
I'm an English tutor to Japanese students through Skype, and as my Skype mood I wrote or at least tried (since it couldn't fit whole) the name of Jugemu. And several of my students asked me how did I know about Jugemu. So I told them about your Rakugo performance and sent them this video. They all gave a positive feedback. Excellent work Katsura-sama, ganbatte kudasai!!!
Ironic that the main character's voice actor from Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu, is widely known from his role as Katsura from Gintama. So we have two Katsura's doing rakugo :)
I absolutely love and respect people like you who go so deep with learning this beautful culture. It's awesome that you seem a lot more natural doing rakugo in Japanese.
"He almost sounds like a native English speaker!" ALMOST!?! Man, that must've hurt! XD Keep up the awesome work, Sunshine-san!! You really brighten up my day.😁☀
The bit about "oroshite" and koroshite," I had a similar experience at a temple when I thought I was saying something nice about the temple (otera) when I actually complimented the bathroom (otearai).
Many years ago I taught English at HOE in Osaka with Bill Crowley who also performed rakugo in English with Shijaku Katsura II. I was lucky enough to see Shijaku perform a few times and am really happy that Katsura Sunshine is keeping this art form alive so English speakers can start to understand Japanese humor.
@@KatsuraSunshineRakugo I got lucky. I now run a travel company canned Rediscover Tours. Where would you recommend travelers go to better understand Japanese humor? If people can laugh together then it will bring them closer together.
I just saw a poster of your rakugo performance in Leicester Square and found this video. It was just amazing and I booked a ticket straight away! Looking forward to the session on next Sunday!!
Its so amazing! Really Rakugo world in English!!! I ask you to upload a classical Rakugo piece in English!!! I would like to watch that!!!! Thank you!!!!!
I saw you in London last Sunday with my sister. Amazing performance Katsura Sunshine! We first found you out through Mother's Basement analysing Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu. Then your RU-vid channel. By some miracle I saw a google advert to a show the next day!
I liked the video before watching and was not disappointed! But my side is hurting from laughing! Amazing! Love every second of it! Thank you and I am humbled for letting me watch this video.
Amazing performance. I have seen several videos of your performances on NHK World. Your videos always cheer me up and brighten my day. Please keep up the goodwork and add the beautiful warmth of happiness ln our lives like the sun in the heavens above :)
Your humor sense is fabulous! I laughed a lot. Yes, in Japanese vowel length is a distinctive feature. Thus, we cannot emphasize a Japanese word by lengthening the vowel as you do in English!
「your or she poo I think」(惜しい!「you or she poo I think」だったら完璧だったのに...) (ちなみに、この時以降の「よろしく」では出ませんでした...。) これからも応援させて頂きます。
I thought to myself: "If his theme song is 'Walking in Sunshine', I'm out. I didn't leave though. haha I'm glad. I'm so glad I got to hear an english Jugemo.
