I suspect it was burnt jager I don’t imagine Clive got it out of the purifier before it got pretty hot. I would associate a lot of the listed herbs with mountains or China but I am from a fairly warm country

I agree. I discovered that liquor (pure and fresh) in Germany. Come back in France, get one and it's different (I have both bottle in hand), and prefer German one :p

You said to record healthy improvements when using the purifier. However, hard water is actually most likely better for health than purified or soft water. The extra minerals might be bad for appliances and the taste of tea, but they're good (or at least not bad) for our bodies.

Hard water will be healthful _if_ it doesn't contain any toxins, possible from well water, and if it contains minerals you aren't getting from your diet, but purified water is gonna be just as hydrating and healthful as mineralized water for anyone with a diet that contains all the necessary vitamins and minerals.

It's curious to see the dramatic differences in option of that second bottle, Clive liked the "milder than usual Jägermeister" where as Ralfy offered his to the floor. I assume he's getting it back at Christmas time, which gives plenty of time to figure out how to get the snake into the bottle.

im wondering if the potential time between sampling had an effect. possibly souring the contents. im sure it had near 0 effect on the clear stuff, but the colored had time to react.

Clives like "its quite bitter but its not too bad" then ralfy comes out, smells it and names every ingredient. really good

After a long and challenging day, I find that a wee pour of my favourite whisky or sometimes a rum or a gin, then a sit down in my favourite chair and finally to watch you do an extra such as this one, simply melts all the headaches of the day away. Thanks Ralfy! You're the best!

It should be said that nobody should replace their normal drinking water with distilled water, distilled water removes the minerals that your body needs and without them your health can be at risk. A glass of distilled water will not kill you, but you don't want to drink just distilled water forever.

@@skilletpan5674 the flavour comes from aromatic compounds which go over in a still like the one used by BigClive even before alcohol. To get rid of anything besides alcohol, he should discard the first couple of ml, then collect the middle fraction and discard everything after about 97,6 °C. The way he did it - distilling everything made the aromatics go over to the product. What we were saying is distilling pure water does get rid of minerals, because they do not vaporize and cannot be condensed on the other side of the apparatus. Hence our statement was: " do not drink distilled water for prolonged amount of time"

This was hilarious. When you drank the vodkameister, that's pretty much the exact face I pull when I drink any alcohol _at all._ I can't take any booze, at all, just, GUH! But it's fun sometimes listening to those who do, render opinions and what-not. Also very funny how _incredibly differently_ you and your brother took the vodkameister. Almost makes me think you were drinking literally-different liquids, perhaps it had _settled_ somehow between when he had his drink and you had yours? The very-most fascinating thing, though, was listening to you talk about the history and nature of Jaegermeister. History's great.

Love your banter and your knowledge on whisky. I have started to buy whisky and building up a nice collection now, it's brilliant living on the east coast of Edinburgh as we have such a diverse selection of whiskies and distilleries on our doorstep. Parents: Don't hide alcohol from your kids! Simply leave a bottle of disgusting liqueur available for them to experiment with when you are not looking. When they turn 18 they will appreciate what's a good tipple and what's a good stain remover.

Heck, tasting beer at 4 years old made me never want to try anything alcoholic again until I gave vodka+soda a try as a teen. Now I drink for taste, rather than for the effect. So I very rarely have any, but when I do it’s a nice whisky; or a cocktail that I really like making.

I love finding random channels by complete chance. Very interesting mate ! I’m in. I’ve got a water distiller. The gunk in the bottom of distiller and the general taste is UNBELIEVABLE. I run a £20 ozone machine through it aswell. As good for you as pos. I’m going to get the trace minerals to add soon. But I thoroughly recommend it. £160/£60 models available👍👍

The experiment would be interesting with a proper chemist's fractional distillation setup where the temperature is much more finely controlled than just boil some water... the liquors could be really separated into their components

love it how he emphasises he mixes it with SODA, not redbull like most commoners.... Reminds me of the time I (for a joke) ordered a double shot of red AfterShock, over ice, in a tall glass, and started sipping it like a fine malt.... some of the remarks I got - 'you cant do that you are supposed to knock it back in one!' Actually, given that BC transformed jaegermeister into gin with his purifier/rectifier/distiller, I wonder what it would do to red aftershock...

A HA! I thought the same thing about the size difference between the bottles! (I feel so proud. :P ) And truth be told, I wondered about how the water distiller would overheat the residue and the Jager test showed that in spades. I wonder how you could avoid that? Use a much lower temp? Water bath? Some other high tech contrivance? Love your channel, Ralfy! New sub! :)

clive's 'water purifier' is still a form of distillation, albeit a crude one. if you run an alcoholic liquid through one you can still feasibly get in lots of trouble in many countries.

I'd love to see your review of PITU Cachaca for one of the "fun" videos. It's delicate and soft and mixes with fruit juice vastly better than vodka. Specifically Tropicana type juices. It's very inexpensive. I really think that if more people were aware of it they would use it instead of vodka for many different drinks and cocktails.

I live in western NC, (where moonshine/white lightning hails from). Where I live, there's no county water, sewer, trash pick up, so our water comes from a well and it's some of the BEST water on earth... BAR NONE!!! We have a small artesian well just below our home where the folks who lived here in the 1800s got their water and it's also fantastic!!! When I visit relatives in town, I find it hard to drink the coffee due to all the junk they put in the water to make it "safe" to drink... I'll stick with my mountain water, thanks :-)

For tap water purification a nice reverse osmosis machine with additional pre/post-filters, active carbon filter and remineralization cartridge is a really good option. Model I like costs only 250€ with its own stainless steel tap and 10 liter reservoir. Also the filters are cheap to change (60€/year for the package of 4 different filters + reverseosmosis membrane). They filter 85-90% of the most difficult contaminants (~99,9% of the easy to filter ones). It can filter 380 liters water/day.

Even after a few weeks those filters have bacteria growing in them.

@@ewaldgoorhuis9094 I guess that's the case with some water sources, but with tap water here in Finland that's not a problem. Also the bacteria shouldn't get through the reverse osmosis membrane and there need to be a lot of them before their metabolites case a problem (becase most of them are filtered in various steps as well). But I'm sure there are also really bad RO systems with so low performance that they could cause more harm than benefits.

Well, I'm hooked on Ralfy and am already hanging out for the next episode. Sure it's the excellent reviews on Scotch, I've learnt a lot. But it's more than that. It's being able to catch up again with Ralfy where we are invited into his eclectic bothy. He's funny, genuine and personable. He's the kind of guy you love to catch up at your local. Oh Ralfy, your palette is apparently WAY more refined than younger Clive. Your face at 6:55 proves that beyond a shadow of doubt. Clive either has the best poker face ever, or was really not that bothered by the reconstituted sludge. Maybe it was because he tasted the straight sludge from the bottom of the pot beforehand, so once mixed with vodka was actually better? Either way, we know which brother has the better palette! Cheers and keep up the 'fun' extras every now and then.

Very NICE, Ralfy! Hwve you tried the rum cream drink called Tippy Cow? Served over crushed ice as a bevarage or a jigger poured over vanilla ice cream is heavenly. I recommend the Orange Cream version.

I think reviewing of Dr. Nielsens Bitters and comparing that to Gamal Dansk Bitters might be interesting. They're quite similar. Dr. Nielsens is unobtainium here in the "Colonies" but I had a chance to try it and it seems to me to be quite good. Gamal Dansk is here so that's what I sip occasionally. Cheers!

Drinking pure water is supposedly exceptionally dangerous - most of the impurities in it are nutrients and it's the main way that we absorb them... Worth a thought before anyone does try that at home!

👍 Let’s hope that “hammer and beard” does not wreck the more discerning nose and palate of his sibling before he reverse engineers the purifier. 🤞 ( I bought an electric a water purifier after tasting the difference inwater from New Zealand mountain streams. In addition to our booze allowance we now bring gallons of mountain water back from our ski holidays each year to drink in UK in preference to supermarket plastic bottles or rubbish from the tap.)
