I was there. the final was just so intense. this is the race of rallycross like the daytona 500 is for nascar. the spectators there are just amazing. I still gives me goosebumbs when I think at the moment when the cars start and the commentator is just going nuts! I was hell of an experience
I originally read about it on the RA site in October last year, so you should still find the article on there. I understand they have three European style (wheel-to-wheel) rallycross events planned to take place in the months after X-Games, all three events will be held at New Jersey Motor Sports Park. If the events go well, RA have said they will consider running a full US rallycross season in 2011.
essentially, in european rally cross there is a new system called a 'joker' lap. This is an extra section of track which adds roughly 2 seconds to the lap time. Every driver has to do this lap at least once, and it makes for some very entertaining finales to the races. I hope this explains it cleary for you. If not, reply and I'll try to explain it better. xxx
Gronholm had tested on the track a few days before the race, together with andreas ariksson, so he knew the track verry well, and we'll see what he does in the netherlands on a track he doesn't know yet. But afcourse it was a lovely drive off marcus
actually here at Portland International Raceway theres gravel and dirt roads surrounding the road course. they use em every year for rally america as special stages. but someone has yet to think of putting an event like this
sigh... fate can be so harsh sometimes... whenever I watch a modern rallycross event I can't help but think how awesome would be to see Colin Mcrae racing... his madness would be perfect for this :(
Don't you have those massive off-road motorbike races? You could use those tracks, if you turned a small section of it into normal roads and added a joker section. PS, what are "the X Games"?
@JElterman they have to take the long way once every heat, it's there to make it more fair or something for those far away, need to use tactics to when to use it to still get a good position
@15V31F It's a joker lap. It's a kind of detour every driver must make once during a race, so it's not really a lap, despite the name. Ususally, the joker lap contains a series of slow, technical corners.
their not very famous because most of the open area of america are in the grass lands ( tornado alley) and it would be hard to schedual an even that takes all day when a tornado can happen any minute
well, the x-games helps, but alot of pure rallyists reeeally don't like that. Rally is growing in leaps and bounds popularity wise in the US its getting there.
Ha, jokes on you; Ollie O'Donovan has been competing in rally for 25+ years and has won god knows how many Rallycross and Rally titles! And lighten up, its the internet, its not meant to be taken seriously!
I swear, speed channel needs to drop boring nascar and cover rallycross and wrc. Better yet, national rallycross championships should be held in the US too (not just stage rallies)
