Larry and the reason is because Dr. Ralph Stanley retaught to sing mountain style. She was a country for the longest time, but Dr. Stanley taught her to like the mountain women used to sing years ago.
I love this live version.... What a Dynamic Duo they were !!!! Unmatched and Unforgettable!!!!! ❤ RIP Ralph, Thank you for the greatest contribution to Bluegrass Music.
I’m a “Pasley.” My fathers entire side is from lower Appalachia, by way of Paisley, Scotland. We were set to take my grandfather with us to Paisley pre-COVID as a last international trip before age takes hold of him. Hopefully we still get to fulfill that wish.
@@joshferguson9703 Sierra Ferrell is good, but even with the bias of being a fellow West Virginian to her she has a long ways to go to get on the same level as pattys voice
I'm in the mountains of TN sitting on the porch. Everytime I play Ralph Stanley the birds sing along. Playing this one & the birds have landed closer to sing along. Its beautiful
...and I'm sitting in the mountains of North Carolina, just under Mt. Mitchell, listening to Dr. Ralph. Just found a bottle of Appalachian moonshine and thought of Ralph singing "Mountain Dew," and have been listening to a Ralph Stanley playlist. 🍺
No telling how many times I've watched this video, but it never gets old. That look he gives her when she belts out the long note is GOLD. A copy of this video should be in a vault somewhere to ensure that it will forever be available

This is what a national treasure looks like both of them. These guys can really bend those notes. She's so dam sexy and respects him. And he's playing the game. What a song.
Oh I had it bad for Patty Loveless she's not only a beauty she also has a voice I could listen to all day..Ralph Stanley sings the songs I was raised on , yep I'm a hillbilly for sure and proud of it.
You have excellent taste! This Music has touched your soul and you feel it I was raised in Appalachia and this Music and people are in my bones. I was fortunate enough to see Dr Ralph Stanley's show in person just a couple of years before he died. It was amazing ❤

The vocal magic of Ralph Stanley and his unique tone is instantly recognizable the first note he sings. Patty is amazing in her own right and this performance is stunning!
Ohh Geesh I would give almost anything to have this little lady’s singing abilities. I have loved her since the 80’s. Wishing country music industry would give her the praise and awards she deserves.
@@SissyMchill1 Hey! That’s very good to know, I can’t stop myself from listening to this song anytime am alone! If I may ask which of all there songs is your favorite? You take care and be safe
@@gregnormal9075 mainstream by Patty loveless (how can I help you say goodbye) and bluegrass (you’ll never leave Harlan alive) and specifically one performance she sing live, seems to be the best, which was years ago. The recorded version is not as good as that live performance. This woman is by far the best country singer bluegrass singer and should’ve been inducted into the hall of country fame way before 2023. God bless have a great day. Also let me add she was on stage with Miranda Lambert in the past like five years. And in that video she appeared to be shy not confident. And did not say anything bad about Miranda Lambert because she can see very well but there is no comparison between Patty Loveless in Miranda Lambert. Patty loveless can out seeing Miranda Lambert or anyone out there singing today. It bothered me deeply to see her so shy so unconfident. I hope she knows how much her fans love her?
I've listened to this a thousand times it's Priceless it's probably one of the most iconic pieces of music has ever been found on that stage Patty Loveless Patty Loveless is a icon best Bluegrass singer put on this Earth and she is a real looker back then LOL I would have married her back then was married though that cut me out her husband must be a lucky dude because she's beautiful and can sing like an angel hahaha
We saw Patty and Ricky meet up on stage at 11am at the IBMA a couple years back. She was scheduled to perform during Ricky’s set later that night. They worked up leads and harmonies on 4 or 5 songs on a hot mike with no instruments and no audience. They chatted between songs and broke into Daniel Prayed. Good Lord. Take me Jesus!
This is my Gal right here.... Wow! I went to Lexington Kentucky to see her and she didn't even need a Mic 🎤...lol she learned how to sing like me and all of my family ... Loud and proud! Right down from the Mountains.... Then when they had to move here to (Louisville KY) and she went to Nashville to get her start ....my Momma worked with her Momma... Her momma would say y'all Hush Up Now! My Girl is on the Radio... "Don't Toss Us Away" We've always loved Ms Patty! What a sweetheart! She's a True Bluegrass Kentucky Girl...
I'm telling you right now ,that knocked the wind outta me. AbsoFreakinLutely outstanding. I don't know how in the world somebody couldn't love bluegrass. ❤ Thank God I was raised up right 😅

My little brother was born in 1947 and they named him Ralph Stanley so I guess my folks must have been Stanley brothers fans. My little brother passed away in his early 40's.
