I installed the Atak and the way I got around cutting the stock exhaust was by backing up over ramps and taking out the spare tire and the metal shield behind it. I also removed the drivers side exhaust tip. After removing those three there was enough room to slide the exhaust out the front with a little bit of moving around. Hope this helps anyone facing the same issue.
Yeah I’ve heard that method or just being able to get the truck on a lift to allow for enough axle droop. I wasn’t able to do option #2 and was too impatient for option #1 so I said screw it and cut it 🤣
What was the realistic install time plz? I’ve got infant twins, so I’ve gotta allocate my time by the 30 second interval. Got the s type in the box starring me down ready to get rowdy. Thanks in advance!!
Hahaha 30 second intervals. Ahhhhh I can’t remember exactly, it took longer for me since this was my first time doing it and I was filming but I’d say it’s doable in 1-2 hours if you’ve watched the video a few times and know what you’re doing and have proper tools.
Picking up my 2020 bighorn today, thanks for the video, you helped make my decision easier ( touring /s-type). Do you have an intake too or stock air filter?
Sometimes you can loosen the clamps and try to slide or rotate the tailpipes to get them centered better. To get mine even close to perfect, I had to literally just manhandle the pipes when they weren't hot and just push them over by hand or with my feet.
@@torredcat4395 I agree. You can only get it so close when it’s built on a jig. I was surprised that the tips weren’t a separate piece like stock ones.
Yeah I wasn’t too worried though. If I need stock exhaust back on for some reason I can have the muffler shop weld it back up for like $20 but yeah it would have been nice to get it out in 1 piece.
Do they make a bolt on muffler only without the rest of the exhaust back and the tips (like at 9:54) just that piece? I just want to replace my muffler and leave my factory tips on the 21 Rebel.
Magnaflow does not to my knowledge but it wouldn’t hurt to check their website. They may have added some since I did this. Also there’s other companies that do make just muffler replacements like Carven. Hope that helps.
@@Dhall-sg2hf Lmao, yes. Not sure why I had Magnaflow in my head. Although THEY probably have a muffler as well haha. Just checked Borla's website again and unfortunately it looks like they only do full systems for the Ram so far.
Just installed this today on my 2020 Laramie. It sounds amazing and I was able to do it by myself in my driveway. Using a reciprocating saw is a must on that drivers side like you did. Anyone who is on the fence on this exhaust, go for it. It has a pretty loud cold start but soon quiets down and sounds great while driving no drone. Also you can install yourself!
Great video. The S-type is louder than a video's audio can show, but it's still amazing. From almost no noise when cruising through the neighborhood to straight race car when you mash on it. You can barely hear it when cruising at highway speed, but it'll come alive when you need to get out a crowd right quick. Definitely a good pick!
Thanks! Great vid, good info thinking of putting this kit on my 2019 Rebel. Since you had to Sawzall the crossover anyway, was it necessary to drop the sway bar links/axle? Informative vid, thanks again!
Put it on yesterday, the exhaust hanger pliers are awesome super helpful time saver! I didn't drop the axle or remove the spare. I did lift the truck to offroad with air suspension. no problems.
Sorry for the late reply, 300+ comments were "being held for review" for some reason. Glad everything worked out for you and you didn't have to cut the exhaust!
Did you have any issues with removing the factory exhaust? I’m about to install my Atak but I see some comments about difficulty with removing the stock exhaust
Hi. I have a 2020 ram rebel and can’t decide on Atak or s type. Any suggestions. How is the exhaust/sound with the auto stop start when it is starting up? From a stoplight. Where did you get yours and how much did you pay?
I believe only the trucks with eTorque have the auto start/stop which mine doesn’t have, so I don’t have an issue there. I got mine online and paid just over $1000 for it. They tend to vary between 950 and 1250+ depending where you get it. I do have a few links in the video description if you want to check out those sites. As far as atak vs s-type, it really depends how lout you want it. Atak is one step away from having straight pipe basically and is their loudest offering. Personally I think the atak is a bit overkill and makes more noise than I want, but that’s just my opinion. Went with the s-type since it’s right in the middle and I haven’t had any times where I wished it was louder. I also have a sound demonstration video if you haven’t watched it yet and want to check it out here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qPizpakjEXw.html
Dang really? Mine is plenty loud. I don’t think there’s packing in these mufflers so I don’t think the sound will change much. Maybe they use a different muffler for your body style
I don't think the factory exhaust will match up with the Borla muffler since the factory muffler is single in, single out, then splits to dual, as where the Borla muffler is single in, dual out. I'm sure you could just measure how long the factory muffler is and then find a Borla muffler (or any other brand) that is the right length and proper inlet/outlet diameters then either cut the factory muffler out and clamp the new one in or have a muffler shop weld it in. Carven has a direct cut and clamp kit for the '19 Rams, here's the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-F8kq9vVd5EE.html
Very helpful video - thanks! Really helped to decide to find a lift I could use to install vs doing it in my driveway. Question: do you happen to have that gasket’s part number? Thanks!
I STILL have not been able to find that gasket anywhere. It’s like they don’t make it yet. I’ve checked multiple parts diagrams and Mopar parts stores and haven’t found it yet so you’ll likely have to reuse yours.
Thanks! Sorry for the late reply, 300+ comments were "being held for review" for some reason. It's the Gator ETX soft-roll tonneau cover. Got it for like $213 shipped from Amazon and can't complain.
I actually got mine from Wheelhouse, but I have the same exhaust listed in the video description through Amazon because it's actually cheaper there now.
hey tony great video i recent had my local shop install this exhaust on my 2020 ram and sounds awesome however they say on the right side of the exhaust is 1/8 of a inch from the frame and can't guarantee it won't make contact is this normal?
Mine is also super close in that spot. Just keep an eye on it. If it starts contacting or making rattling noises, there’s likely some minor adjustments that may help to fix it. I actually didn’t even notice how close it was during the install, it wasn’t until later when I was laying under the truck doing my air bags that I noticed lol
@@rupertturner7311 Haha, any time! Also, although it would suck to have to do, if there is ever any contacting issues, you could slightly dent or crimp the exhaust with a hammer or big pair of channel locks. Not ideal of course but if it comes down to it.
@@TonyTheTruckGuy hey man turns out when i turn left and the shocks compress i can hear the exhaust touching or if i hit a bump or pull up onto a curb with the right side its rattling when i drive on highway going straight its fine how can i make a adjustment without having to remove it?
@@rupertturner7311 You can TRY loosening some of the exhaust clamps and just seeing if you can adjust some of the pipes, but I think the pipe you’re having issues with is welded directly to the muffler, so you’d unfortunately need to intentionally dent your exhaust to keep it from hitting the frame with a hammer or big pry bar. Otherwise maybe contact Borla and see if they have any advice or may be willing to send you a new muffler that’s hopefully welded slightly different.
I've had it at the dealer since I put it on and they haven't said anything. The truck is actually a lease so if they voide the warranty, they are just screwing themselves haha. But that's why I picked this kit. It's 95% bolt-on except for the 1 cut I had to make in the exhaust so if I decide to turn the truck in at the end of the lease, I can put the stock exhaust back on and just pay a muffler shop like $20-40 to weld that one piece back on.
There IS a stock resonator already. I'm guessing the Borla one may be quieter, but I never bothered with ordering it because I liked mine the way it was. It's loud when cold started and when you're on the throttle but it's manageable.
@@TonyTheTruckGuy cool thanks for that. So if there is a stock res already, would that area be sufficient for the new res? Or is the Borla one too large or something? I’m asking cause within your video you state you don’t see the need for one or know where you would even put it.
