Today's episode is the culmination of a lot of planning. One ARB compressor, one ARB pressure control module, one custom wiring harness, one set of Firestone RideRite 2598 Airbags, and one set of Daystar cradles later and I've finally completed the app controlled airbag/air check setup I first envisioned.

FYI on installing bolt for cradle, take box end wrench and duct tape one end closed that will hold bolt and a little piece to hold washer or just balance it, plenty of space to fit wrench. Hand tighten bolt from top to start and then can put socket on and tighten down and wrench will just drop off after tighten. Just installed mine but with Airlift 5000 ultimate plus as I got a really good deal on them, another person said they had them on for 1.5 years and holding up fine. With Carli extension and bump stop was about 4 inches and bag compressed to internal bump stop plus cradle a little under 5 inches.

Nice process. Sounds like a solid way to get that nut in there. I was just about able to get it done with my fingers otherwise I definitely would have gone your route. Glad the bags are working for you as well.

I was told by Carli this couldn’t be done. This is awesome. I guess I have a project again

Glad i could help. These air bags and cradles were specifically recommended for my truck from the crew at CJC offroad. I think the only possible issue running bags with the Carli lift would be if you don't add the cradles. Using the cradles allows for full suspension articulation and no risk to the bags stretching.

@@HarrisonsGarage The reason it's not recommended is this size firestone bag doesn't fit into the cradle correctly. It needs to come down onto the flat of the cradle, but the metal part of the firestone bag is much too big and it sits off them bottom by 1/4". I can almost be sure that if you put 5k lbs on this, the cradle will split in half. I'm currently looking for a bigger cradle that fits these bags, but i'm thinking I'll have to make some.

Going to do this to mine. I will soon need back surgery if I don’t do this to my ram.

I’m curious how this changed you ride. I have this same setup on my pintop system and I didn’t get to test out the suspension before the bags were installed. Side note my shop didn’t use the brackets for top or bottom so it looks like my system retained more travel than yours. Mine has a flat plate on top.
@harrisonwillner996
@harrisonwillner996 Год назад
Tbh I haven't noticed much change in the ride if any. At 5psi only the biggest bumps on the highway leave you feeling like there's maybe slightly more bounce in the ride than usual. I think you'd notice it more off road under full articulation but normall roadway driving seems unaffected.

This was super informative. Hard to get decent info when I'm in Australia. I'm looking at doing my 2014 Gen 1 Raptor and the Daystar cradles look to be the right thing to make sure I keep all of the articulation I need. With the ARB app, can it be setup to control the two rear bags separately? I have two reasons to use the bag system. One to increase my load carry capacity, but I also will be using a roof top tent so if the ground is uneven when I setup for the night, I can use the rear bags to lift or lower one side or the other to get the truck level for a better sleep. Again, thanks for your efforts to produce this informative video.
@HarrisonsGarage

The arb system may be able to inflate each bag separately depending on how you plumb it. Id imagine you'll need to add a valve of some kind to manually switch from filling one bag to another but it can probably be done.
@aaronfranchuk5957
@aaronfranchuk5957 Год назад
you can definitely do that if you set it up without a pump to fill manually. With a pump youll have to put a inline valve some where to close one side off
@HarrisonsGarage
@HarrisonsGarage Год назад
@@aaronfranchuk5957 yes an in-line valve would be needed with the compressor. For my needs so far I haven’t found it necessary. If my loads change then I will have to address this.

Thanks for the video, did you consider the Air Lift bags as well? Just curious…. I’ve done two Air loft installs , one on a lifted 2006 F150 and another on a lifted 2012 Tundra….. I now have a 22 Ram 2500 Power Wagon and am interested in air bags and compressor. Have not done much research yet, any input would be appreciated! Thank you ! Also your using a single compressor for bags and general tire inflation correct?
@HarrisonsGarage

I did look at airlift but went with firestone simply because I was able to find more people installing them in my application. With the Carli lift,cjc offroad sells a great kit for the truck and it came with the Firestone bags. I researched the Firestone bags quite a bit and decided the suited my needs well.

Would love to know your feedback after one year. Would you have done anything different? Double ARB compressor or addition of air tank. Great video, will be doing that in my 2021 Ram 2500 but will be using Air Lift bags instead of Firestone RideRite (I have stock suspension with no lift). Thanks
@HarrisonsGarage
@HarrisonsGarage 4 месяца назад
Hey glad you found the video helpful. If I was to do it differently, I would have added a second pressure control module and plumbed the bags independently of each other. This wouldn’t really be needed unless towing at the limit of the truck but it would be nice to have. As far as the air bags go, a tank isn’t needed. I think it might actually prevent the pcm from working properly since it would fill the bags faster than the pcm could monitor/regulate the bags.
@krzysztoforlowski6010
@krzysztoforlowski6010 4 месяца назад
@@HarrisonsGarage thanks for your feedback. How about placing air tank on the line for filling up the tires, outside pcm? Have you ever considered it?
@HarrisonsGarage
@HarrisonsGarage 4 месяца назад
@@krzysztoforlowski6010 so yes. That I have also considered if you put the air tank in line outside the PCM then yes it would be worth doing for something like tires, or even an airhorn.

Yeah I’m running the Carli 3.25” back country lift. The shock specifically is the Fox 2.0 remote reservoir custom tuned to the truck by Carli. Here’s the url. carlisuspension.com/product/dodge/dodge-ram-2500-3500/ram-suspension-systems/3-inch/2019-ram-2500-4x4/3-inch-backcountry-system/

You should have got airbag man bags from Australia they sit inside the coil. Not brackets needed.

I’m not familiar with that brand. I got these because my coils are 1.5 inches taller than stock and this setup is sold by my lift distributor and recommended to work with my specific lift

Let us know if you have problems with this setup. Just bought the same combination, and this size firestone bag doesn't sit down into the cradle all the way which puts a lot of stress on it. I assume it will split the cradle apart if you try to put significant weight on it.
@HarrisonsGarage
@HarrisonsGarage 5 месяцев назад
Hey haven’t had any issues whatsoever. The bag/cradle combo was recommended to me by CJC off-road which I believe is one of the biggest Carli distributors. I’ve had over 2000 pounds in the bed and it worked just fine. Used the bags multiple other times with less weight without issue.
@dougmorford2011

@@HarrisonsGarage Awesome. I was concerned before, but I'll just install it and see how it goes. I'm installing mine with 1" - 1.5" of gap between the bag and cradle; a little different from your setup and use. My truck has about 1.5" of rake, so with about 2000 lbs it should come down to sit at level and onto the bags. I get a few loads of wood every year that weigh around 4k lbs, but I hope the springs should carry half that weight with this setup. The reason I'm using cradles isn't for the suspension travel, it's so the springs can help carry load instead of the bags taking all the weight. Thanks for the help.
@HarrisonsGarage
@HarrisonsGarage 5 месяцев назад
@@dougmorford2011 interesting to hear the bags don’t rest on the cradle empty. I’m sure they’ll work just fine for your application. I still have factory springs in my setup as well. They take most of my load. It’s only when I haul or tow heavy that I feel the bags coming into play.
