At that exact moment in time and space that leadsinger was undoubtedly he coolest man on earth... and one could argue he just still might be so, to this day...
Just like the Dude (Big Lebowski), he was the right man for the time. His look was pure 1970's, and he embodied it...no, he OWNED it. The amount of strange he got...I can't imagine.
Unfortunately it was a one hit wonder because some of the band members got into legal trouble, drugs, etc. We used to listen to this back in the 80's at the lake blasting our car stereos lol
While a one hit wonder, the band did have 2 albums to their name (some 20 songs total). The 2nd Album, The Portrait of the Artist as a Young Ram, had more of a hard rock sound to it. Underrated gems with some great guitar work. Black Betty definitely had a different feel to it compared to most of their other work. Both albums were eventually compiled into "The Very Best of Ram Jam" in Germany of all places! Got my CD copy for $13 CAD at Amazon iirc.
This was filmed in the back yard of the lead guitar player and singer, cost about $10, with their girlfriends and motorcycles in the background....lol He still lives there l believe with his girlfriend, Ram Jam never received a penny in royalties from this song, but they absolutely killed it........:-)
The video started and I saw your eyes, you instantly became my favorite girl. I love peoples reaction to this song! The first time we heard it back in the 70's there was a group of us, about 30 teenagers, boys and girls, we went wild. We played over and over.
black betty was a rife the south used in the war made in birmingham AB then was changed to a new rife that they hated as it did not shoot well ie black betty had a child dam thing gone wild gr8 song
When I hear this song it takes me back to '77, and bikin' down to Dayton on a chopped-down '47 Knucklehead, Half stoned, carrying a straight-razor, a .45, and two thirty-eights named Shannon and Raven. Anyway, ...I think this comes from an old blues artist named "Lead Belly" (Huddie Ledbetter), and “Traditional” (another way of saying that this tune, probably even predates him). I used to hang around the Checkerboard Lounge (blues club), that used to be on the southside of Chicago, when I was a kid, where I heard some stories and tunes.
Black Betty was a whip that they used to keep the prisoners in line in Birmingham, Alabama and they had a smaller version (child) and she made you sing in pain
@@NenesEats Thanks, I don't recognise the title, I'll have to look that one up, and check it out. I've seen so many that sometimes, with my traumatic brain injury, I dont remember that I have even seen a movie before until I am well into watching it again.
@@thomasarussellsr Great you may like it, my husband loves the movie. He's the one who introduced me to the movie. It's a man's man kinda movie about "BLOW" let me know what you think, once you lr done watching it! Take care of yourself my friend, sorry to hear about your injury
😂😂😂😂😂 I never seen this music video but I heard the song before this is making me laugh too like I got to look at some of these old school music videos as well because even though it's before our time either the video have a positive strong message or they got you laughing out of humor so you got to expect that
The original was recorded by Leadbelly in prison back in 1933. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SJUSGuNxt-4.html Around the minute & ten second point there is where you'll start recognizing it.
The song’s writing credit has been attached to the work of Lead Belly. However, the credit to Lead Belly may not be one hundred percent accurate as Lead Belly’s recordings of the song were probably just in essence cover versions of a song that is pretty much untraceable.
They should have sang it as " BAD BETTY "...As a 60 year old white man ...the first time I heard it I thought it was a bit racist . With that said ....It stands and one of the greatest rock and roll songs of all time .
This is an old chain gang song from a texas prison sung by black prisoners, listen to the original here, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tiCEVl_9-MM.html
Thank you for playing that old school tune. I Love that song! You have to debut the rock group Accept with there song called "Balls to the Wall" the Live Version. The outside crowd had to be over 100,000 people. It has a great guitar solo, which you love. It also features a regular orchestra that's performing with the band. You would be the first of many to critique this group and song. Trust me, many more will follow after your debut of it. Please play it. You won't be disappointed. ❤
