Shark Scrapper is sorting the RAM recovered from his last pick up. That's a lot of RAM to go through. It gives Sharky an opportunity to show you the various grades of RAM and what they are worth. Some does and don'ts are also discussed.

I have found that a lot of those shielded ram clips are stainless steel so check them for that also - Welcome back

Thanks for the reminder. You've also given me the thought that I should do a dedicated video on "deshielding" shielded RAM. I need to give that one some thought.

It's going to be a good day today. Wake up at 5am and get my brain started with some caffeine and a great shark video!! I'm working with my yard to where I can buy their whole systems and break them down for the components. No one here pays anything close to reasonable (if at all) for their e-waste, so I should be able to get fairly cheaply and make it profitable for both of us!! 😁👍

The preschool scraper is going to scrap his grandfathers computer that’s dead. Taking apart a computer is his goal. He asked me why some boards are green, some are blue and some are brown. I looked online and couldn’t find an answer. His solution was to ask Sharky, he knows everything.

The color of the boards loosely translates to the quality of the manufacturer and some quasi-branding considerations. Generally speaking, colored motherboards were made by fast following board manufacturers and of lower quality and value. But that's not always the case. There are some non-green telcom boards that every bit as good as the green ones. There are also older large socket motherboards that aren't green and are also top value. I saw a YT video a few years ago that discussed this. If I can find it I'll leave a link here for you.

Those tiny boards in the white bag are from copier/printer toner cartridges. The gold is only on 1 side so I been tossing them in High Peripheral since the gold fingers seem very thin and not both sides + usually only has 1 IC chip. If you didn't notice yet boardsort has a new wifi gold finger category though that board you had didn't look like a wifi card so I'd probably keep that in the normal GF category

Hey there Jose! Yes, there is most definitely gold in the RAM chips. I believe they are the primary driver for the value of the board.

The small networking component is a Mini GBIC or SFP. Could be fiber, could be copper. Not sure the scrap value but I replace them a lot due to failure.

You’re closer to Ohio and Boardsort if you want to make the trek with a big haul! Then a Seinfeld episode comes to mind where they try and haul the cans to Michigan😅 So probably not worth driving. Nice haul of RAM!

Great to see you back on line. I am in the process myself of moving from Florida to western NC or Eastern TN in the heart of the mountains. Too hot in Florida for me as I get older. Have been busy looking at property and not researching scrap yards or local prices... are you finding prices favorable compared to Florida scrap yards for the staples...Aluminum, Copper, Stainless, etc.

Michael I haven't explored general scrap prices since my new focus is ewaste only. Sorry. Word of warning. DO NOT change your vehicle insurance to a NC or TN policy until you have your new state driver license. Depending on the timing, if you change to a new state policy but still have a FL DL, say due to delays at the DMV, you risk having your FL DL suspended for lack of insurance and that will prevent you from getting your new state's license. Trust me on this, it can get ugly.
