At the risk of sounding like a nit picking jerk complaining about RU-vid Videos: I really appreciate your effort in the production of your videos. Really the only thing can complain about is the (very subtle but noticeable) audio level changes when you put the cuts together. Hate to sound rude but I get the impression you might appreciate this kind of feedback. Keep up the great work.
out of most keyboard channels out there, i feel yours is the most authentic and realistic, i really like it a lot. you give solid opinions and criticism that isn’t solely based on taste but on quality and it really helps when im just trying to get in to the hobby. Keep it up man!
I really enjoyed that thorough review. Great job on the visuals too. The board is great looking and the second round is very tempting. I'm leaning away from integrated posted myself. I love my HHKB Tofu, but it took a lot of effort to make it sound the way I like. My NIU Mini is still waiting for the same treatment. One of my goals this year is to get one high end board. Not sure it'll be a Rama, though.
The M60-A in combination with Zealios v2 switches, KAT Alpha keycaps and a simple spacebar treatment will give you a supreme typing experience. Here's a soundcheck ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lyzCgHIk8Yo.html. I hope you didn't skip the Seq2 edition ;)
r/mm is absolutely not worth it, unless there's a limited run keyboard that hasn't been run for a year or two. most products have a second round, and if not there are good group buys almost always running that have similar quality.
can you then also not wrap your head around pokemon cards going for thousands of dollars? to you, it may be a piece of paper. but for others, it's a collector's item and for them, has more value than you think. so your comment here is really... stupid.
Amazing review, I had no idea how split the community is on harsh bottoming out. I personally love the feel of a smooth linear smacking down on the plate. Also, how far out is the u80?
I would put healios switches or silent switches on the m60a because the rubber rings mitigates the hard bottom out.. I currently use healios on it and it really makes the typing experience much better. But yes, I bought this mainly because I value design more so than the typing experience. I will still buy Rama products but there's a reason why we buy multiple keyboards ;)
I picked up the kbdfans KBD67 with the brass plate and zealios 67g switches, and it's absolutely perfect for me. The sound, the layout, the feel... Perfect. I love the look of the RAMA cases, but the price is nuts. Even my KBD67 cost me around AUD$500 without key caps (ie, A SHIT LOAD). The ONLY problem I'm having now is that i need 2 of these, one for work and one for home. First world issues.
The higher end keyboards are definitely noticeably better, but not much so. I started with a KBDFans product as well, and while I can appreciate the differences that make a true high end custom what it is, I was genuinely surprised at how much you're getting with the KBDFans products.
Totally guessing, but I think Rama (it's actually his name) is of Japanese descent, hence the Japanese stuff all over his branding even though he's based in Australia, Melbourne I think.
Excellent video, is all your content this thorough and good? Also I’m new to the community and was close to buying a Rama board as my first high end board. However some the points you brought up are making me reconsider. Do you have any alternate recommendations?
This one was a little more in depth and lengthy than some of my other videos but I will be trying to make others in this style going forward. It's hard to recommend high end boards but I've been liking my E6-V2 so far
Great video! We need more content like this in our hobby. :) Would you mind explaining why you disassemble the board when swapping out switches? I’m about to swap switches myself and want to make sure I don’t damage the plate.
I like to apply pressure on the bottom switch nub while I undo the switch clips with a plastic tool one by one This is only to avoid using the metal switch puller which can damage the finish on the plate
Always go into it knowing that it will take a while and everyone else I've seen that use there integrated plate loves the way it feels for an integrated plate of course there are many people that like the feel of a harder bottom out especially with linear switches I know I do I've tried soft and it never feels the same to me but hey to each there own and I will say my rama m60a sounds nothing like yours its beautiful with lubed switches absolutely amazing yku just have to put time and work into your rama and I dont see anything with mass market on this I see enthusiast I've seen mass market keyboards I own them lol and they suck compare to a rama and dont even come close to looks all because it has an integrated plate and hotswap you think that well the pcb I'd a Wilma pcb with hotswap big difference with regular hitswaps to the point where many people dont ahve any failure and the hotswap can be swapped as many times as you want and there is a reaosn because hotswap is becoming big and I see why that's not mass market that's being smart and going with the future as hotswap is part of it I love the fact I can switch our and test any switch I want to without having to worry about de soldering anything and to ke that's great and there 4.5mm integrated plate is amazing and doesnt feel how you siad it does at least not to me and not to many others I just watched a build and even he said he didnt expect it to feel so good all I knwo is it's my daily and it's great and again if you put time into your switches it ahs a unique sound and that's also good
Nice one as always.. I'm kind of partial to the fc66 layout got the topre and the last mx clear model they made. And just bought my second tada68 hahaha best layout ever.. but after seeing that red board you have I regret getting my second tada68!! Hahaha that one looks so good.. what is it ????? Probably very expensive ;-) did you do a vid about it and did I miss it ??
@@JYMV to bad the M65-A is out of stock.. looked at the Koyu looks good but i prefer the bottom row of the M65-A what's that space between the arrow cluster called. ?? look forward to your review..
@@JYMV just looked at the rama site.. it's a bit on the expensive side of things.. one Koyu is the same as both my tada68 with keycap set and switches.. granted i ordered two packs of khail pro purple switches.. and only used one.. but after seeing the prices on rama i don't regret buying an extra tada68 just for lols..
That little space in the koyu is referred to as a "blocker". I like it on some designed but not on the koyu. I think it's kind of weird when paired with such a thick bezel Hope you find something you like!
Hey JYMV! What is the keyboard that shows at 0:05 that is cyan/teal blue with the DSA Milkshake on it! Looks stunning :) Or if anyone else knows hehe! Have a good one all.
I've really come to really not like the sound of rama and for the price I just dont get it yeah there quakity but somehow the sound is never ever good even when lubed it isnt good there is a ton of ping in them which the high end boards are known to not have hell mekanisk with the fjell and the klippe dont even ping and have the deep dense sound that really expensive cases have I've learned it's just not worth it ans somehow I've tried alot of keybaords and mekanisk makes soem good ones even tho there played mounted it doesnt matter somehow its jot harsh nd now they have something nobody has really thought about doing by taking out the middle posts so it's a softer feel and it actually works I feel that player moutn is still good and has always had a great souns no matter what anybody says but it would be awesome to only have 2 screws one on each side and they ahve the 4 little pegs holding it up in the outside like really far so it doesnt impact the feel zi think then plate mounts wouldnt be an issue at all and people would really like them there is a stigma with plate mount when it isnt true like the middle being stiffer not anymore they spread out the posts so it doesnt feel that way and now you can fully tske it out I think that's awesoem and now they sound and feel even better
If you were to join the U80-A GB, would you go with the dampener or the internal weight? I'm thinking of getting the weight and filling out the rest of the space with shelf liners, but I'm curious to see if the optional dampener is particularly effective.
Mine doesnt do that when you hit on the bottom it's pretty solid idk why yours does but either way it doesnt matter I feel these brand new seq2 boards are the best that have come out they even sound better somehow the aluminum seems different also ina. Good way mabye from 6062 to 6063 or something
Thanks! I'm no linear aficionado, but the creams seem like a very competitive switch. I haven't experienced any of the issues people brought up for the preproduction samples, and they are very smooth I haven't tried the stem swap, but definitely heard of others doing it. It should be possible
JYMV hey. I’m not sure if you are aware but this person directly copied your video and uploaded it. FYI. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7bWxKCRxs_w.html
I understand it is very, very high quality... but $600? Come on. I would like to own one, but I don't think the price is justifiable. At $350ish maybe. What do you think about the price?
I have a Koyu supposedly arriving today. Given how much you've criticized the typing experience I'm wondering what you consider the best typing experience in an HHKB layout.
i know this video is a year old and i'm not trying to start an argument, but you mentioned 'avoiding bottoming out' and 'harsh bottom-out' in the video - what exactly is the problem with bottoming out? i understand as someone who types a lot that hammering the keys constantly leads to fatigue, but so do switches like the halo/hako/whatever.. maybe i'm an alps guy and too oldschool for this. xD
The characteristics of the bottom out feel is often a differentiating factor for custom keyboards. It doesn't matter for people who don't bottom out at all, but if you do, you may prefer either a very solid or a bouncy feel. For now, most people prefer some kind of flexibility and absorption, but fads come and go so we'll see.
@@JYMV aah i see your point now. sort of like the way i like the hard clack sound of non-dampened switches but prefer the more 'bouncy' feel of the dampened ones. looking forward to whatever you review next, even if it's not my thing - you're the best (after chyrosran22 of course). thanks for your reply : )
RandomCrap probably the best functionality wise, but if you like the aesthetics of 60/65% and don’t mind sacrificing a minuscule amount of time to access the other functions, then I’d say 60% a good choice.
You must be talking about the E6-V2 designed by Exclusive. That was a limited group buy, so the only place you'll be able to find it now is second hand at places like /r/mechmarket
@@spaceboyrust They make these to order, meaning there's no limit, and given their popularity, that usually means there's a lot of them. And given their high QC, and all the other projects they're working on, they usually have long lead times.
Just another random RU-vidr that can't appreciate an item for what it is. "You can get X of Y for 1 of Z" argument is the oldest and most ridiculous argument in the book.
We’re the switches in the typing clip not lubed? You’d think after spending all that money on a beautiful keeb you’d at least lubed the switches and stabs to achieve optimal sound and feel as much as possible
I don't think I could pay $500 for a keyboard that doesn't even have a control key how do you even use that thing how do you hit control-alt-delete. I don't think that the minor aesthetic Improvement of having those spots empty is worth the loss of a vital key at least in Windows
nice review - but without offending you in any way - I find it very hard to understand what you're saying - you tend to mumble and especially at the end of every sentence your speech becomes unintelligible on certain words - maybe it's the microphone you're using
