Mine does type better though - I am literally faster at editing a document because function layers let me quickly select and delete an entire word (FN + J = Ctrl+Shift+Left) and functions like page up and down are also quickly accessible without moving my wrists. Less finger fatigue than typing on membrane keyboards as well.

In other fields, the tools people use are considered important enough that when people can, they make sure to get the best version of it. If you were a carpenter for a living or even just a hobbyist, you'd make sure to have good quality tools when possible. Those tools usually last longer than cheaper ones, maybe have some extra functions that cheap ones don't have, or they just have better quality of life things for the user that make them more enjoyable to use. Somehow a great majority of people have failed to apply the same thought process to their keyboards they use day in day out. There are plenty of people out there who type all day and still just use their laptop keyboard or a cheap rubber dome. Some people would drops 1000s on a custom gaming PC and even getting into the details of having the right coloured cables for their case etc, then when it comes to the keyboard they would settle for whatever is the cheapest RGB mech on Amazon and call it a day. As Nathan said you can still input data with those cheaper keyboard options, but they are not in the same realm when it comes to enjoyment to use. Also I'd argue that these keyboards CAN make you a better typist. I got myself a split layout keyboard and it actually improved my typing abilities as it helped me train out some bad habits I had when typing, which made me a faster typer. Additionally because a keyboard is nicer to use and feels more comfortable (especially now I can have a heavier weight switch to match my heavy typing style) I feel better typing at greater speeds for longer as my fingers become less fatigued so it has in a way helped with productivity. Also with a nice solid alu case with foam inside and lubed switches, the keyboard sounds nice to type on and is now a lot less offensive to the people around me too. Before I would type on a big echoy plastic keyboard that with every keypress it would echo through the house. This hobby also opened me up to other hobbies too as I learned to solder so I can build a custom mech, now I use those soldering skills in other parts of my life and other hobbies too. In fact thanks to that skill I even fixed a control unit for an expensive kitchen appliance at home that would have cost a lot to replace or have someone come out to fix but I was able to fix it with my ability to solder.

@@MagnapinnaArchive Hi, I'm just getting into the hobby myself, but these are just my 2 cents. While I understand the price point argument, I can't say I can agree with you about the reliability of mechs. Mechanical switches are objectively better than membranes in terms of reliability. They're rated for at least 50 million actuations. These switches are expected to last you at least a decade, even a lifetime for a lot of use cases. I for one, have encountered multiple instances where a membrane or scissor switch keyboard has failed me, so you really can't say that your experience is evidence since they're just anecdotal. When I discovered their existence, I thought "huh. they're more expensive but they last a lot longer and I get the 'feels' as a bonus." I've been using a mech for about two years now (still all stock, looking into modding and making it better), and I can say that it's one of the best purchases I've ever made. But hey, you do you, man. If you think a similarly priced membrane is better, then go use that. No harm in that. But I'm not even sure if there are membranes as expensive as mechs since when they sell for around as much as a decent mech, their sales would likely bomb, correct me if I'm wrong.

This is imo the difference between Socialism vs Capitalism. Economic arguments aside the ability to create anything and thrive so long as it is sustainable and satisfies a market then why shouldn’t it exist? If we were robots we would all drive Corollas. What Taeha is saying is so true. I got a mechanical keyboard for the first time at the beginning of summer. For the first time ever I actually had the motivation I needed to learn how to touch type. I had tried before many times but always quit. Today, I have been learning to touch type for almost 3 months. I used to type 50-60 wpm. I went down to 28 wpm. But today I can type up to 116 wpm averaging 96 wpm on 10fastfingers and was recently able to average 91 on typeracer (had luck with the passages also). Hope to improve even more as the months turn into years! I never thought I would enjoy typing so much!

Your explanation as to why you use a high end camera and therefore why you use a mechanical keyboard is such a great breakdown for why we invest in anything that might be perceived as "overkill" or "unnecessarily expensive" for our hobbies and interests. Using gear that you are excited about, or a tool that inspires your passion and in turn directly contributes to the overall quality of your work or end result is justification enough. This is the first time in months that I feel motivated to work every single day, and enjoy every second of it. The feel, the sound, the looks of my keyboard invite me to type something, anything, every day. I spend every moment of the day thinking about anything I can go type up, just to hear the perfectly smooth and thocky spacebar over and over again. Deciding to get a good keyboard is somehow my way of being undistracted in my surrounding, listening to my own thoughts, with the sounds and my fingers to relieve my physical tension (which for me is kind of normal because I have ADD, and I easily get distracted) to give it a chance on focusing doing one thing. She's either gonna use it as proof that you're crazy, or she'll get sucked into it and want to build her own keyboard. Which is more likely?

what nathan said can be applied to chairs aswell. "spend your money where you spend your time" is an underrated statement. People are shocked when they see herman millers prices but they are actually cheaper AND better for your back/posture.

Actually, I agree with Taeha. After I built my own custom keyboard, I always find something that I could do so that I could use my keyboard. I would always feel hyped up when I got to use my keyboard and once I use it, it's hard for me to stop. Ended up me finishing all the works early.

Anybody who gets into this hobby should do themselves a favor and learn how to touch type. It's fun to improve at a useful skill and you're getting the most out of your hobby that you just dumped a lot of money on! I really don't get these other RU-vidrs who have spent thousands of hours building keebs and making videos but won't take a few hours out of the week to learn how to type properly. Taeha was the first mech kb RU-vidr I saw and I expected similar levels of enthusiasm and polish from other RU-vidrs but 90% of them type like they're newbies to this hobby. It's baffling and to be honest, it's lazy. I seriously just stop watching if they don't know how to type. I know that might sound elitist but if we're looking towards some of these RU-vidrs for guidance on keyboards and to be a leader in this hobby but they can't be bothered with learning how to perform the ONE skill and that is unique to the hobby then they deserve some flak.

this might have been the most expensive video I ever watched on RU-vid considering the money spent on custom mechanical keyboard parts in the last few weeks alone. That said, it has become a great hobby and I there is no going back to stock keyboards once you realise how much you can improve the experience. I have always been keen to use great keyboards. But my first very own 60% makes me want to even answer my work emails. As a German who wants to stick to ISO-DE for now, it is quite hard to find keycaps - but this has become part of the fun. Thanks Taeha, seriously.

An analogy I like to use when describing why high end mechanical keyboards are so good are sports equipment. I play soccer, and I would always be really excited if I had a budget to get some new cleats or a new soccer ball. At the end of the day, maybe it doesn't make me a better player, but especially for shoes, having good shoes can motivate and if it's good enough, can literally improve your performance.

When I first got my mechanical keyboard, I was so lucky that I got it on that day because that day was when my groupmates fell asleep while we're doing a research paper that is suppose to be submitted TOMORROW. So it was up to me to finish ALL OF IT all night until 8 am in the morning. I was lucky because whenever I feel like not finishing the paper anymore, I would look at my mechanical keyboard and how it changes colors, or how it sounds or feel when I type, and it just motivates me until I finished the paper.

I love that you're doing a series to help newcomers get into the scene. 1 thing I really struggle with as a newcomer is that everything is out of stock at the point of purchase. It requires a strong mental focus on what I want but out-of-stock vs. what I don't really want but in-stock. I also find it demands a lot of patience, when your favorite keycap set may take ~1 year to reach you.

Hopefully this will convince my parents to let me get a higher-end keyboard EDIT: I have to convince my parents to use my own money for the keyboard, and I am probably only going to spend around 500-600 dollars on it, so even then it wouldn't be the most luxurious one.

if you are refering razer/corsair/logitech keyboards as higher end keyboard,no. That's not what this video is about, that's just like the scratch of the surface(like he said in the video),there's more to a mechanical keyboard than those gaming keyboards that i just mentioned. There are much more to a mech keyboard like custom case, custom keycaps, types of switches (not just the cherry mx ones, for example kailh, topre, holy pandas, tangerines) etc.
