After getting the 360 block back from honing, It's time to get the many layers of spray paint and funk off the block. I also drive out the old cam bearings and freeze plugs, along with painting the block, and brushing out the lifter galleys.

Outstanding job Joe. Very Professional cleaning job. Thanks for the Shout-out's Joe. Great idea wrapping the cloth on the brush. Nice of Drew to buy you the cleaning brushes from Goodson Products Co. As they say, cleanliness is next to Godliness. I use Totally Awesome all the time on my projects. Good stuff and won't hurt anything. It also works well in a 50/50 mix to soak clothing or tennis shoes to remove stubborn stains. I really like this project Joe. That Ramcharger is going to be fun to bring to life. It's a good looker too.

Great video, Joe. I love the cloth on the brush trick!! I like to cut the loop end off the brushes and insert the trist into a cordless drill and brush the living crap out of the bores. Next time, I will do the cloth trick at the end and make sure I am 100%, or the best it can be, cleaned.. Old brushes are always saved for blasting away in the water jackets. Hell, anything you can get out of there is alllllways a good thing!! Oh yeah, I have not used the same cleaning liquid you did here, but I think if you add to it about a tablespoon or so of Dawn dishwashing liquid, it may make it much better as the Dawn will be a surfactant for the cleaner. Keeping the cleaner in place longer and wet, will, or should be even better... Just a thought!!
@JustMoparJoe
@JustMoparJoe Год назад
Thanks Steve. I like the dawn idea too. This block got washed in 3 stages. It was easier than several I’ve started with.

@JustMoparJoe
@JustMoparJoe Год назад
Yes sir. She’s a bit weak on a big block. I’ll only build an aluminum headed big. Block on it. The 508 was done on a heavier stand

Hey! the cam plate hold them in an you can drill a hole in one for extra timing chain lube!
@edsmachine93
@edsmachine93 Год назад
The 340 had a hole drilled through one of the top cam plate bolts. The oil running off of the valley would let the oil drain through. Extra oil for the cam gear thrust and chain. All great ideas for long life. Take care, Ed.
@JustMoparJoe
@JustMoparJoe Год назад
I believe I have it in my small block book. It recommends drilling a tiny hole in the front plug and then a larger hole in the front plate for it to dribble out there. All good stuff.

Where do you get that spray from? Is that similar to Simple Green or Purple Power?

Dollar General store! It’s very inexpensive like 3.50 for a gallon. Closer to simple green, but it is excellent for anything.

I cant believe you use wd40 that stuff sucks. It causes machined surfaces to rust fast as shit. I have the proof on a 383 block here at the shop. I have gone as far as calling the company on this and its because they used alcohol as a solvent in the mix and it draws moisture. We first learned this with powdercoating harley cylinders. We would shoot wd in the cylinders after the process of powdercoating to ship them. The customers bitched about rust. I should do a video on this for my channel. Wd40 is not used at my shop at all anymore.
@JustMoparJoe
@JustMoparJoe 11 месяцев назад
I’m glad you saw the video and shared your story. Now to give a viable alternative would help me. I don’t do this process unless I’m building the engine within a couple weeks of cleaning it. Never had an issue with rust in that time frame, but I know different areas have different conditions.
@Roosters_Restos
@Roosters_Restos 11 месяцев назад
@JustMoparJoe if it's short term like a week liquid wrench works. I use a pressure can sprayer with 0 weight oil. Like synthetic moble 1. This insures no rust up to a month or longer. When I acid dip a block it has a coating on it so I won't rust. However, all machined areas get oiled. Plus the valley and mains. Also I use this spray oil process during assembly synthetic oil coats the parts so they don't rust and it's good lube for break in. 48yrs of building motors and ain't lost one yet joe.Joe. oh you can use a old cup style paint gun that works great too.
