It's about all those people crying: "You can't be here, this is my country". And no matter where the person turns north /east / south/ west is told: "There is no place for you here.." And I believe there was an incident with the guys being told to "go home" while surfing in the US... hence maybe the setting in the Video.
The Song is from 2011. You've already interpreted it correctly. Till wrote the lyrics while they were touring in California and taking a short break. He was surfing and locals chased him away, saying it was their place and he had no business there. Paul said in the making of: It's about someone without a passport who won't be allowed into any country. But of course people should want to add their own interpretation. Great song and great video. Thank you for responding to this song 😊
Exact ! This are the roots of this song 🫶🏼 trip to USA, chill on the beach, rude surfers and we have a perfect topic to a next Rammstein song and a scenario for a good Rammstein clip ❤❤❤
I think this is just a first layer. Almost all Rammstein songs can be interpreted about Germany, so this song looks to me very close to Mutter. About not having a place you can feel fully home after occupation of East Germany by West Germany. Being a child without a mother, a man with no land he can call his own.
@@PalleRasmussen occupation of East Germany was a legitimate ending to a second world war. But when USSR collapsed and soviet troops were taken home West Germany just took all the territory without a proper legal procedures. Nobody asked what East Germany people wanted to do.
The problem with saying that we need to take care of Americans first is that they want you to think you have to pick one or the other. There's enough money to do both except it's in the hands of people who don't care.
Exactly! Compassion and empathy will only succeed in helping both. People can both take care of their families and support others that are suffering. Ofc, someone will put their own family/countrly first. But in my opinion, those who focus/use those type of phrases (Black Pegasus excluded) are typically self centered egoists (and often racists) that only care about themselves and typically do nothing that is not self serving. My country lucks hospitals but yet we promised to rebuilt a hospital in Kiev. Not only I do not mind, I support that promise. I cannot fathom me having 2 things, even if I need 3, while someone else has 0. We can both have 1 each and both do good enough. And often as you say, we can afford both but politicians use the "put ourselves" moto to conveince us that we can't because either they don't care, or want that money for themselves, not their people or other people,
100%. I hate when people say ''we have homeless here but we give a gazillion dollars to Ukraine'' as if before Ukraine they were giving it to the homeless. You can have both, you choose not to. One does not cancel out the other.
I like your interpretation of the song and I believe you are pretty accurate and insightful with it. I believe the catalyst was when touring in the USA and Till went to go surfing but was basically chased off and threatened by some locals being xenophobic, to borrow a quote I remember from a comment some years ago about this song: "basically some local idiots who threatened him for 'coming over here and stealing our waves', that vibe". But as with anything Rammstein, there's always layers and i believe you're along the right lines. Also as you mentioned athletics and sport, I don't know if you have checked out "Sport Frei" by Till Lindemann? Highly recommend a listen and a look at the official MV, and lyrics for this one, and bear in mind that Till was being trained to become an Olympian. Adds a lot more to know that when taking it in.
Till was an Olympic swimmer when he was younger With that physic no wonder he looks awesome in his 60's You should hear Ausslander also Another great song for immigration
The condition he was in in his 40s and 50s was insane. 60 hit, and you can easily tell its harder for him to stay in shape. He's no longer bare-chested in the later stages of live shows, he has a noticeable belly, and his arms aren't as big as they were. Whatever...the man is 61!
@@anthonydurante1149 age doesn't discriminate but you can see that he stays fit as long as he can and he looks amazing He's 61 Wish we will look great at that age
Your buddy Joe E. Sparks recently reacted to the video KEINE LUST. It's about abundance, you've achieved everything and you want to go back to the beginning. The music video is a blast and very funny. Please respond to this too. Thanks for the cool reactions always, but I miss Don 😂
Here in the uk its the same history first the romans, then the saxons and the normans. The English over the scots irish welsh and then the empire across the world. We've been both colonised and colonises. Every nation in history has been in the same position
There are winners and losers in nature but we're supposed to be better than that and move beyond. Sympathy, empathy, that's what makes us human. Animals can be powerful or successful or dominant, but Humans should aspire to more than that.
One of the funniest Rammstein's videos but the lirics aren't too much yep another one with the same vibe is auslander funny but also interesting video you must watch it next by them.
Hello there. Already saw somebody explaining, what the video/ song is about. (Till's surfer experience in California). Kudos. Isn't it funny what the mind does at times? Associations with Hawaii, because you're looking forward going there. Btw, hope you'll have a good time. Seeing images that remind someone of the 50's or 60's was a deliberate choice. To set a contrast with the pastel colors, which are colorful but also have a more reserved, sweet, innocent tone which is what you see in movies during the mentioned time period and the text that describes xenophobia. With love from Germany 🤘🏻 ❤ Before I forget, two more things: You've raised a very good question: Why isn't more money spend for the own people in the richest country in history? If your answer is, because it's spent for what you mentioned, than why wasn't it spent for the people of your country before the current events? Should've been tons of money available, right? The answer is, this not how a government works. The question rather is: what is a government willing to spend money on? The other thing about who do we cheer for: the winners. Well, that's a, sorry to say, very American point of view, which kind of plays into Rammstein's song: Amerika. The mentality of 'the winner takes it all' pushed on other cultures. It's gonna blow your mind, but that's exactly why other countries have a social security net. Because, we don't think this way.
I saw a quick flash of a Sycamore Beach label on the screen which is located at Point Mugu in Southern California. This was also my first watch of this vid. Love this song, love this band, love your reactions! Keep up the good work brah 😊🤙
Just wanted to drop this, there are a lot of Rammstein songs, including this one, available with english subtitles, mostly fan made. I think it makes sense to react to those if possible as it makes it a lot easier to get the meaning.
You nailed it, dude. That squeaky clean 1950’s aesthetic is no accident. Look at the song Deutchland; Till writes a really scathing critique of Germany’s past in that one.
Search for the Elvis Presley Musik Movies of the 60s and you know where these aestethetic comes from 🙂 Example:ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RhSSgWmfFk0.html And the beginning of Dicke Titten (The Folkssong) was also sung by Elvis : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-C8TGpW04hjg.html
Nice video ! In the future, could you please watch the video "Radio" by Rammstein? The lyrics are quite profound, criticizing the suppression of free information sources and cultural censorship related to the Third Reich and the GDR.
This song has definitively dark lyrics. The negative vibes regarding to strangers first increase very slightly, then right before the "Hasselhoff" scene, it becomes more and more aggressive. "This is my land, my wave, my beach ... here is no space/place left (for you) ..." In the night scene it culminates in a "piss off" kind of message. The whole song reflects and exposes xenophobic tendencies. Parts of the phrases in the lyrics are taken from common xenophobic arguments ... that are not limited to the USA but that you can hear in many (if not all) rich countries (including Germany of course). Maybe the daylight scenes should show how those people see themselves and the night scene shows (them) how they really look like. It is a bit like the song Amerika (but harsher). First: Oh yes, that's me. Then: Oh no, is that really me? (Or: Is that really what people think of me?) By the way: The inspiration for this song was that Till - while surfing on a beach between two concerts in the US - was told by some local surfers (after they recognized that he speaks German) that it is their land, their beach, their waves and he as a stranger should piss off.
Positive and controversial relationship with thier homeland. It potrays the charm and flaws of the country. Beach parties and military parades . It allows viewers to form thier own interpretation based on their personal experiences. You could absolutely say its about Hawaii for you.
It all starts with a simple question, Is my freedom, still my right to fullfil, if it interferes with other peoples freedom? If we can't answer that question right, whole society will fail
I would strongly reccommend these three rammstein songs (with official music video) to react to: - adieu: totally epic song with best music video I have ever seen, 6 minutes that fly by with beautiful visuals - ohne dich: bit older but still great video concept and gets you in the feels, haunting lyrical performance and sad but still uplifting meaning - seeman: one of their oldest songs. Still very much interesting and great performance from the lead singer till. Feels different from their other songs what makes it even better to listen to, video is good too
Not sure about the Hawaii thing, you could be right, but I read it was based on a personal experience they had while touring, probably in the U.S., where they were just chilling on a beach and a group of people have them shit for being foreigners, obviously didn't know who they were, which doesn't matter anyways lol but this song is about that experience.
I don't know examples in history when occupation really cared about local people. They just make locals and their behavoir comfortable for their main land citizens. Hawaii appears in USA movies as just dances and flowers and not real culture , showes it like just fun recreation for other American cityzens. Same China is doing to Tibet, making just a 'disneyland' for Chinese. And this examples is everywhere in the world
Hawaii had an absolutely pacifist queen, who was overthrown by the landing of two US Navy ships so that the USA could get strategically closer to the Philippines and Japan... and the rest is obvious
If you're going to start get political it'll make me start 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 "Our people" You're going to have me educating you on usa in the 1800s until the 1600s because if you mention Queen Lil, and not Elizabeth 🤣 🤣 i will drag Oliver Cromwell into the debate and set you all straight with your early historical education and how the confederate battle flag was created by the Scottish!❤❤❤
You mean you've pulled the translation if the lyrics, or you can read the German and understand the meine understand mein oder dein deine 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 female male etc etc etc
I adore Rammstein, but they are bog standard European leftists. The juxtaposition of 60's beach vibe with the ironic xenophobic lyrics are well executed, but also pretty cliché at this point. "Ach Klaus, I have subverted their mid 20th-century bourgeois imagery! Now I will skewer their nationalist pretenses! Ja! Das ist ausgezeichnet!" Like RATM, I just tolerate their political messaging and focus on the music.
Again awesome video, you should make a reaction video to Till's soloband 'Till Lindemann' . He got some wild lyrics, even wilder than Rammstein. Love to see such a video and your reaction to it. Keep up the good work!
Unfortunately you were reacting to this really average song and until now you missed at least two amazing songs/videos. Remember "Mein Teil", the cannibalism song? Check out the music video. You'll love it...maybe 😂 Also you missed out on one of their greatest songs, "Keine Lust", amazing lyrics, amazing video, very ironic, especially if you know them as a band.
There's an American flag right at the beginning and you're talking about Hawaii. Even though Hawaii belongs to you too, yet this song is not only about Hawaii..., just as it is not only about you, Btw: You should be careful with your pride, you had a dark history and the present is not much brighter.🤢
Hey im german and for me i can say you American normally were friendly and nice to me. I visited iowa and nc. It’s just disturbing always to talk about Hitler when I say that i‘m German. We don’t hate Americans. Maybe the political there. But that’s not whole USA.
The songs of the East German band Rammstein always have many possible levels of interpretation. My interpretation: My Country: In the video we only see white men and women celebrating the "American way of life" of the 60s. The title of the song “Mein Land” illustrates the ownership claim of these white men and women to “their” land. Flight and migration, other cultures do not appear in their world or imagination. With the song "Mein Land" Rammstein holds a mirror up to this group of people. The song is a criticism of the sole claim to power of “the white race”. The song is a plea for migration to a free world. In this song, Hawai can be seen symbolically as the embodiment of this 60s world
Man, I love how you like to expand your boundaries and pick up on stuff that may be out of your normal comfort zone. I really appreciate that. Here's a few suggestions for you to expand a bit more. Check out the older Kamelot stuff, specifically The Haunting. If you want a genre of something you may not have found yet, get into some Celtic Folk Metal with Eluveitie - Exile of the Gods And for a very theatrical band, both in videos and live, look up Avatar - The Dirt I'm Buried In
Missing your Metallica reactions but loving how you’re delving into so many genres of music. So I know you appreciate soulful music and i would love to see you react to the Bee Gee’s “Too Much Heaven .” Im sure you’ve heard “Stayin Alive” and probably just think of the Bee Gee’s as just Disco, but I really think “Too Much Heaven” would blow you away. Appreciate you and your effort. Still want more Metallica but Bee Gee us up. Thanks again.
the song is refrancing the land grab by the powers after WW2, but they used the hawian/ southrencaliforni as a refrance for the video...thinking that americans would understand more.
