I was the guitarist in a Ramones tribute band, and the #1 rule of playing a Ramones song is: Downstrokes only! (It helps if you keep your guitar slung low)

ive played so many ramones songs for 30 years using down strokes i have a hard time playing songs using up strokes haha!

I LOVE when guitar snobs say things like, "just learn two power chords" or hold up the Ramones as inferior musicians. Then... they try to play it and sound like trash. It's even better when that critic has never written a song that's gotten more than 3 downloads (from mom, grandma, and their bassplayer) on bandcamp. But I love you Marty. Also, I got your Epi 335 and it rocks.
