Rampage Poker Is A MONSTER!!!!!!!!!

Jonathan reviews a hand that Ethan 'Rampage Poker' Yau played during a World Poker Tour $10,000 tournament at the Seminole Hard Rock Poker casino. He flops two overcards and an open ended straight draw which leads to some tricky decisions as the hand progresses!
Jonathan talks about how the effective stack should help guide your strategy when you have a draw. Generally you want to play more passively when you have a middling stack between 40-60bb as you end up being in a horrible situation if you face a shove from your opponent.
Rampage takes a non-standard line on the turn as he decides to lead the turn when the board pairs. Although this card is good for his range, he has to consider that the big blind has also continued in the hand and will have a lot of 8's in his range. The button can also have a lot of eights in his range as there are many more 8's in a button's opening range compared to an early position raise.
Jonathan talks about how Rampage should consider what his image is to his opponents. He is known to get after it and is not afraid to bluff. This will mean that opponents that watch his poker vlog may be more inclined to call with their bluff catchers which Rampage should be aware of.
This poker hand took place during the World Poker Tour (WPT) Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown! This was during event #37 which was a Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry) with a hefty $10,000 buy-in meaning some of the worlds best poker players were battling it out in this field.
The hand starts with Anthony raising from the button with 76cc. Rampage decides to defend from the small blind with T9cc and another player in the big blind also defends. Three players head to the flop which is the 8d 7d 4s. An action flop for both Rampage and Anthony. Anthony continues with a half pot bet to which Rampage and both the big blind call.
The 8c is revealed on the turn and now Rampage decides to lead with his straight draw and two overs. The big blind folds but Anthony calls with his middle pair.
The river is a brick for both players as it's the 4h, although now the board is double paired. Rampage now continues his story and turns his hand into a bluff betting 1.3x pot on the river. Can Anthony sniff this out and make a great hero call?
Jonathan Little analyzes live poker hands from TV poker shows such as Poker After Dark, Hustler Casino Live, The Lodge Poker Club & PokerGO. He also analyzes popular poker vloggers such as Rampage Poker, Brad Owen, Jaman Burton, Ashley Sleeth, Wolfgang Poker and others!
You will also find many poker hands on this channel that contain some of the biggest names in the poker world such as; Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, Phil Ivey, Doug Polk, Garrett Adelstein, Tom ‘Durrrr’ Dwan, Dan ‘Jungleman’ Cates, Fedor Holz & many more!

It's usually only done in tournaments when you're on a bubble trying to make the money or the next tier. If the opponent announces, "all in", you then can stall before calling to see if any other players bust just in case you're beat (assuming you're not bluffing yourself). I RARELY see this in cash games, and this behavior helps me identify those that primarily play and tournaments. Rest assured, these players will bluff WAY more frequently as they just expect people without the nuts to fold in those tournaments to hold onto their only chips.

If he is not on a Bluff he would call, if he is on a bluff he would fold, and use the single chip to hopefully, move up a spot in the money ladder if there is ICM and someone busts in the next few hands. Also, with Big Blind Ante, he can, if lucky, win all the blinds and antes with that singe chip. This keeps him alive yet another full round of the button, and more chances for someone to bust out.

There's something psychological about strategically placing a bet just short of an all-in. If you want your opponent to call, bet them just short of all-in if they're short-stacked, and they'll be like, well, might as well go all-in at this point. If you want them to fold, you can leave yourself with a chip and you emit less desperation than an "I give up" all-in shove. Maybe.

I think I have already mentioned its a Tell to leave 1 chip behind. Yes some do it accidentally but when they do it deliberately it says ( to me) they want to stay in the game if they get called. So call the All In-1
@piotrignatowicz6030

They go ALL IN - 1 chip because if you get called you can still MUCK your hand. If there is ALL IN and CALL the hands must be showed down. Other reasons my be on the direct bubble or ladder when there are other ALL INs and you are almost guarantied to cash or ladder.

I believe most do the allin but one chip when close to the bubble or pay jump. Since if you lose and have one chip, which would probably be less than 1 BB, you can easily wait til UTG to "shove" since you are better off waiting at that point, and hopefully ladder up by then. You have to see a flop with less than 1 BB, so might as well wait til UTG, just don't wait til the BB, since they take the ante first and then all you can win is your lone chip back.

it’s for laddering but you have to do it throughout the whole tournament to be balanced. If somebody puts you all in you can tank until you get a ladder before calling. being able to spin up cheap is a nice bonus but that isn’t why
@stevenwetzel942
@stevenwetzel942 Год назад
You can’t ladder early in a tournament and that doesn’t need balanced the balance is between bluff and value and that has nothing to do with doing it early in the tournament. In this case a mile from the money you’re absolutely wrong it’s for the spin up and it’s not about balance at all lol. He just balances it by always doing it with bluffs and value WHEN he does it.

Hi Johnathan, I asked a question on the last video and I think I worded it poorly. If a player before me minraises, should I be treating that as a raise or a limp by that player. I'm more concerned about the bet sizing than I am my range in this instance. What I want to know is should I be treating my turn to act as "3 bet or call" or as "raise first in or fold"? I'm worried that calling a minraise with my raise first in range makes it too cheap for those acting after me to see a flop , and would rather charge them 3BB than 2BB.
@soocool78
@soocool78 Год назад
a min raise should be treated as a RFI...RFI should be 2.25-2.5, so i dont think a min raise should treat differently. You shouldn't be worried about "making it too cheap" if you are flatting the raise...if your hand is good enough where more players is bad for a flop (AJ/KQ/QJs), then you should be 3 betting. If you have marginal hands (suited gappers, low suited connectors), then its a call. (assumes deep stacked and positions like HJ/LJ) (Also im a fish)
@OneEyedJack01
@OneEyedJack01 Год назад
Confusing question. Are you proposing min raising an open min raise? That is the worst of all options. The bet is too small to fold out many hands and re-opens the betting for the initial raiser.
@josephh4539
@josephh4539 Год назад
im almost certain this should be a call, if you have a over pair, with weak flop, this way you see who comes along, especially if you holding aa/ak/aq/kk/qq/ if you hit, its ok check turn as well to see if they stab at it, if you have them cover, no harm in 3betting the turn or jamming with 2 pair and flush draw for you.
@soocool78
@soocool78 Год назад
@@josephh4539 ??? how can you be certain its a call? The question wasn't about whether he should 3 bet or call, but how to treat a min raise instead of a standard open...This wasn't "I have XX and the action was Y, this was the position, what should i do".
@josephh4539
@josephh4539 Год назад
@@soocool78 i treat as raise meant to apply pressure on weaker hands, if you hit that flop, im sure he has apart of it. so just be ready to commit with stronger outs and go along knowing you can improve , especially with overs and draws on the board that favor you. just a thought no biggie.

9:18 It was my understanding that if a player is all in for less than 1 BB pre flop, their contribution to the pot would be less than the ante amount, so they wouldn't have the opportunity to win the ante portion of the pot even if they win the hand. Can you actually win the ante if you're all in for less than 1 BB?
@brianpotter2812
@brianpotter2812 Год назад

@vicentelorenzosanchez6858
@vicentelorenzosanchez6858 Год назад
Leaving one chip behind seems to be a significant, but not massive, tell. It means the player isn't entirely sure they are ahead. However, the overpot bet seems to be the biggest clue of a bluff. If Rampage was ahead, he would have bet small to entice a all-in from the opponent. I think the combination of both was his Achilles heel that, while caused concern for the opponent, was ultimately well read. Rampage has too many examples of bluffs he's pulled; I think people have indeed been watching.
@_Coffee4Closers
@_Coffee4Closers Год назад
No, he would do this even if he had the nuts in this spot. The value of the single chip is not important to win if he wins the hand. However, if he looses the hand he can still survive a few more hands and in an ICM situation someone busting in the next few hands could mean many thousands of dollars in profit. Plus with the BB Ante in play he might find a spot to shove his singe chip in the next few hands, and he could win the entire Blinds + Ante for that single chip... that is a huge value for a single chip. This would allow him to survive another round of the button, and allow someone to bust in front of him. This has become standard for large field tournament players, on the money Bubble or any ICM spot. His opponent would NOT take this as any sign of weakness, as he is also a pro and understands why he is doing it.
@ikrenji8125
@ikrenji8125 Год назад
when you go all in it says two things - you either have a very strong hand or you have nothing. It's debatable whats the right bet size to extract max profit, but overbetting seems to be one of the better options
