This is an exceptional, succinct overview with empirically grounded insights. I was also intrigued by Wilson's mention of the Hydrogen at Scale project at NREL which recognizes that cheap surplus power from Renewables will allow to manufacture hydrogen which serves an industrial feedstock, mostly for ammonia (=fertilizer) which would otherwise require carbon intensive processes. Fascinating info. I would caution putting all of our focus on carbon only. We have access to very reliable data from Greenland and Antarctic ice cores telling us that over the last 250 000 years (basically for all of the time genetically modern humans have been on Earth during the Pleistocene and at the start of the Holocene) we’ve had numerous spikes and dips in CO2 levels far exceeding what we’re experiencing today. These spikes and dips have been tied to temperature changes and sea level shifts. All this, well before humans had any impact on carbon levels. I invite a discussion that focuses equal attention on energy storage, air/water pollution, improved recycling, rewarding individuals’ green behaviour, reworking education curriculums to include all of this.

The financing cost being able to drop the price 1.3 cents is very interesting, this could easily be attained by government backing up such loans to drop the interest rate banks charge for solar projects.

Nice ideas... however... I always laugh when they say people in Africa... well if they could afford to move, I'm sure they would and since they can't afford to move, then how can they afford to buy electricity and water? Or on the other hand, some people choose to live the way they do with no electricity and having to find water.... And If they could afford it, or wanted it, then believe me, someone would have installed old fashioned electricity and water by now...

Keep eating that Rainbow Stew and drinking that free bubble ubb bubbly champagne. Meanwhile here in the real world we are finding more crude oil everyday and we have miles of coal

The real world is the world where the burning of fossil fuel is cooking the planet. Physics doesn't care that some people make money by speeding self destruction.
