I love your videos. I have like 60 hours on MR2DX on the Switch. I played MR3 and MR4 on my cousin's PS2 when I was little, and I fell in love with the franchise. Don't have those games anymore, but I am loving MR2DX and your tutorials make my casual play very easy and fun! Your video quality is top notch. I would love for you to put a video out on Arrow Head.

@@Moosebones I've legitimately never seen MR2 content and I love the games. I didn't even know there was a competitive scene until I stumbled onto your videos and now I'm jamming MR2 on an emulator trying to make a tournament monster. I haven't dabbled into hard mode yet, but it looks really sweet from the change log I read.
@@invividcolor Well now you know (and I've heard that's half the battle)! The beauty of Hardmode is that since it's just a patched ROM all of your previous save files will work on it without issue. Monsters spawned in HM vs monsters spawned in vanilla will have different guts rates and statgains, but it's actually a common strategy for *certain* monsters to spawn into hard mode but then play the game through in vanilla to abuse the swim glitch and some other fun stuff.
I think my plan for mr1 is to do a competitive overview since 1 DX is coming out but idk if I have time to make videos for every individual monster. Maybe one day :)

I loved Arrowhead and Naga as a kid; I have never gotten into competitive, so it's an entirely new world I'm happy to follow, even if I don't feel like participating myself! I'm wondering how Arrowhead and Naga fare in a competitive environment.
Alright I have watched hours of your content now since DX came out and I used to play Monster Rancher 2 as a kid. I wanted to know how to really play the game for the best monsters. I’m thoroughly impressed and entertained by your content dude. This is the kind of stuff old and new players alike who want to get into the game can enjoy.
You clearly where a legend of the dragoon fan. I know the music is just applicable here and I can’t go off just that, but I’ve picked out multiple songs from that game in your videos.

My main monster was a Dragon/Kato hybrid called an Ocerot (Ocelot?). He looked like a dragon-shaped ginger tabby cat. The Kato blood gave him a longer lifespan than most dragons, and when I just couldn't keep him alive any longer (after 6.5 years), I combined him with another Kato to create a 2nd generation Ocerot. I loved him, even though he didn't always win. If I ever create another Ocerot, I'll remember not to waste drills or errantry on Intelligence training. Thanks for that heads-up and for this video!

Back in the day I used a henger/Gali monster and named him Skywalker. He was the best monster I ever raised. I miss that dude for as crazy as it sounds. He was the only monster I was legitimately upset when they died. I remember trying to go on expeditions to try and find golden peaches for him, haha. I think he somehow made it to like 8 years old or something... I'd have to check my old PS1 memory card He liked tablets I'm pretty sure which helped his long life span after watching your other videos about that weird stress/life thing I had no idea of the meta behind MR2. I loved this game growing up and probobly dumped hundreds of hours into it. Thanks for the nostalgia! Edit: maybe it wasn't a henger/Gali , but I remember it being a henger that was white. It's been almost 20 years. I've got my Ps1 memory card from when I was a teenager (8mb wow these were pretty bad) do you know what it's typing was?
Proto (henger/gali) was unfortunately only available in MR1 but luckily in the japanese Switch port of Monster Farm 2 they finally brought him over so you'll be able to raise him again if you get MR 1& 2 DX
@@Moosebones that's what it was! Sorry for getting M1 mixed up with M2. I had both growing up and then the later versions of monster rancher just became blah... I was so disappointed. Tried out Evo and was very upset with it, haha. Mostly because of little things like pixie not being pixie anymore etc. Played the game for 2 hours and then returned it to GameStop. Have the Monster Rancher series improved after that game?
Dragon is good except it has low speed stat gain that can countered with good training method and sub. Dragon is a good sub itself, and yes I agree with you that Draco Mocchi got the best stat gain that's why I raised and maxxed out one. A pure dragon is a best monster for expedition, good pow, int, lif except for its low lifespan.
Wracky and Ducken both have a ton to talk about in competitive play (Ducken is the opposite in regards to viability of Dragon; terrible in the switch port and absurdly powerful in the base game, whereas Wracky is one of the strongest monsters in the game in the hands of a player but pretty bad when controlled by the AI; he was so overturned in hard mode that hes currently banned with metalner) so theyll be longer videos and I think I'm gonna try to get out a shorter one next, but Ducken is one of my absolute favourites so I'll definitely be doing one on him sooner than later.
In Hard Mode most of the slow GR monst have one or 2 techs with an absurd amount of withering (like 50+) just to make the playstyle usable, even if it still kinda sucks
For newcomers to this video: DX removing the guts limit in battles did a huge amount for his competitive viability and he's now considered mid to high tier in most competitive metas. Unfortunately they fixed the typo in SlammimgDown so he's probably the most nerfed monster in the game overall
Gali and Hengar and mybe Naga are the only weirdos left that have enough complexity to a casual to warrant a video off the top of my head. Not to mention, they are awesome!
Your videos are absolutely amazing and I am going to direct everyone I talk to on social media about the remasters to your channel. Will you be making a "tier list" for guidance for new players wanting to clear the game easily for the first time? Will you be covering Arrowhead, Durahan, Henger?
A tier list video could be fun. Whats good in competitive is not what's good in single player though, so thatll be interesting. Might have to make 2 videos.
@@Moosebones As someone who loved MR as a kid and just found out about the remasters coming to America, I'd -love- to see both videos. As a kid I struggled with this game but loved it, as an adult min-maxing is par for the course in games and the info dumps are amazing!

I asked this on stream once and got a short answer but you said you wanted to maybe do a video about it. Basically, with as busted as Monster Rancher 2 is, I was wondering why we don't play Monster Rancher 1 instead as the Switch tournament brackets for it look a lot more varied than Metalner Fest 2021. But you said there was some reason why MR2 is still beter. Something involving the way combining monsters works and some Plant monster being an OP POS?
Combining in MR2 is convoluted but once you know how it works you can really abuse it. MR1 doesnt really require combining for anything competitive tbh but it's really jank and frustrating to deal with. Theres no real reason why mr1 tournaments wont be run in the future - I'll definitely be running them myself because I think it's a fun meta in the hands of the AI - but it's a somehow significantly more broken and bewildering experience.

He just hops around, holding his face and laughing. ...oh right, Dragon. Never unlocked it in MR2. I'll have to try it if I get the Switch port, even if the vid shows just how faulty it is.
To be fair, he's actually pretty good in Monster Rancher DS. In exchange for having 0 withering moves (which Dragon doesn't really care about), his techs are generally accurate, hit hard, and are pretty cost efficient. MRDS also has some other quirks that make his archetype a lot more manageable. This video is specifically about competitive MR2. There are other MR games where Dragon is actually pretty damn good! So kid you wasn't crazy, don't worry lol
Absolutely love your videos. I'm really looking forward to seeing your analysis of Mew. He and his sub-breeds are my favorites in the game. I love Mew, I think its the monster I've raised the most number of times for competitive - either 3 or 4. You should check out MachoCheeze's channel for links to the Switch Port Battle League tournament series I won thanks in no small part to my Mew, Leon.

By the way, I love your analysis of Butterbean, I've heard quite a few gamers bring him up several times before in reference talking about how they loved him. I've spoken to him, but I sat front row center in one of his tough man competitions back in '06. In fact, I did sparring at the gym that he started out in where Murray Sutherland is at. The one thing I noticed about him at that time was that his calf muscles were the size of people's biceps! HUUUUUUUGE!! He knocked out my aunt's ex boyfriend within 30 seconds. An overhand to the top of the guy's head, it took his body at least a little over a second to register what just happened and he just collapsed afterwards became it came down so fast.
@@warzard16 I think butterbean is just a well known name to casual fans and non fans alike. Theres something mystifying about a guy with his physique being as good at what he does as he is. Plus he does a lot of charity work so what's not to love! All the monsters in Monster Farm 2 have 100 weeks less lifespan than in Monster Rancher 2. They decreased the difficulty for westerners. Luckily lifespan has no bearing on competitive play.
