Something that annoys me about the transgender community is when many people in the community act like gender dysphoria is a medical condition. I find that offensive to people who have actual medical conditions. People with gender dysphoria need to realize that things could be a lot worse for them, and they need to appreciate the fact that they at least have a healthy normal working body. There are people born disformed, without body parts, have serious diseases and conditions that can greatly impair them or can be fatal to them. For example, my nephew has Menkes disease, and it has affected him really badly. It's not fair to act like you have it the worst when there's people who clearly have it a lot worse than you. That's just being selfish.

This is gay conversion therapy but "progressive" it's absurd that children are now being told how to dissociate from their bodies so better to conform to sexist stereotypes. This is not a simple topic at all. We'll start by defining a couple times. Transgender people have a gender that does not match their gender assigned at birth. Gender dysphoria is a negative emotion that many trans people experience due to a disconnect between their body and their internal processes If parents suspect their child is transgender, the child is taken to a psychiatrist who specializes in adolescent psychology, specifically relating to transgender people. If they determine that there is a strong likelihood that the child may be transgender, they are referred to a child therapist, who works with the child and their parents over a period of months, sometimes even years, to determine in detail if the child is transgender. If, and only if, the child, the parents, the psychiatrist and the therapist ALL agree that the child is transgender, then they will move forward with care. The exact method of care depends on the age of the child. For prepubescent children younger than 10 or 11, this means simply wearing clothes that match their identity. Note that not every adolescent begins this process at the same age, and many begin after puberty. When the adolescent turns 10 or 11 or so, or after several months of discussion with a therapist (whichever comes second), and the other adolescent is still sure in their transgender identity and they still want to proceed, they will then be put on puberty blockers. This acts as an additional safeguard. If they later realize that they are not trans, then no "damage" (here meaning developing secondary sex characteristics that do not match their identity) will have been done. The use of puberty blockers acts as an additional buffer period to make sure the child truly wants this path. Puberty blockers do exactly what it sounds like they do, they block puberty. The puberty blockers used today were approved by the FDA in 1991, although other puberty blockers have been used since the 1980s. Puberty blockers were originally used for children with and an abnormally early puberty. Puberty blockers block the hormones associated with sexual development during puberty (testosterone and estrogen). Puberty blockers do not however delay brain development, and the child will still grow, albeit more slowly than their peers. If the adolescent at some point realizes that they are not trans during the period which they are prescribed puberty blockers, then they will stop being prescribed puberty blockers and they will go through puberty as normal. There are no major differences in their puberty, however male adolescents who were on puberty blockers for a while maybe an inch or two shorter than they might have otherwise been. At age 16, or after a few years of puberty blockers (whichever comes second), if the adolescent still wishes to proceed and is sure of their transgender identity, they will then be prescribed hormones which align with their gender identity. They then develop through puberty normally for their gender identity, simply a bit later in than most. Sex reassignment surgery, also sometimes known informally as "bottom surgery", is reserved for age 18, except in VERY rare cases (and even then it is usually only at age 17. In these rare cases usually the adolescent has very extreme dysphoria surrounding their genitalia. Some doctors however use the age of 18 as a hard limit and will not move forward with sex reassignment surgery even in these rare cases. Note that sex reassignment surgery is only performed if the adolescent specifically seeks it out. Not every transgender individual wishes to have "bottom surgery". Mastectomies for Female to Male transgender people, also sometimes known informally as "top surgery", is only necessary for transgender individuals who have already gone through a typical female puberty. There are no 6-year-olds getting put on hormones. There are no children getting surgeries. There are no medical professionals advocating for government intervention for transgender children.

Historically, and in the "Dutch protocol" study, anyone with psychological comorbid conditions and children were found ineligible, and excluded from the research. The criteria for pursuing treatment for gender dysphoria is less researched than many would like but the general consensus is that a living trans person is better than a dead one. If a minor is experiencing gender dysphoria to a point where they are in danger then the dysphoria should be treated along with therapy. Prior to any medical treatment minors MUST go to therapy for dysphoria and MUST receive a gender dysphoria diagnosis. ( This takes 3 sessions minimum) Most trans people are capable of waiting before they transition, but for others it is a matter of life and death. For those people transitioning as a minor may be seen as the medically necessary route.

Your brain doesn't stop developing scientifically speaking till you're 26 plenty of evidence to show kids felt one way and then another as Rand Paul stated. We wouldn't let a child drink alcohol and the effects could be much less permanent than gender reassignment surgery. It's just common sense to let kids grow up first. As much as I dislike Rand Paul I agree with him on this aspect.
