Cool fact for my fellow Muslims: Khabib Nurmagomedov is actually pronounced as Habib Nurmohamed-ov which is translated from Arabic in english as: Khabib = beloved NurMuhamed = light of Muhammed So his name means beloved the light of Muhammed. Pretty cool! Reminds me of Muhammed Ali as well and how both legends have the name "Muhammed" after our Prophet Pbuh. May Allah SWT bless them both and bring peace to every single human being and the ummah. Ameen. :)

But it was an old tradition so just the surnames are existing today, not that tradition so that means Khabibs father isn't Nurmagomed, and Khabibs son or daughter will not be Khabibov. :D You have that same thing on the other way in almost every slavic groups, let's see: Poland - ski as Lewandowski, Yugoslavians - ić as Mandžukić, Bulgarians - ov as Bogdanov (same as Eastern European slavs) and so on. But you have that tradition in other cultures and nations such as Scandinavians/Vikings/Northerns, their surnames are ending on - son as Larsson, Sigurdsson and so on. Hope you understood.
