In case you're new to this channel, this is one of the videos I make from various bits and pieces that didn't quite develop into their own standalone videos
In this video, I talk about (and take a look at):
The furnace I made to try to smelt iron from iron ore
The start of an experiment to test various methods of artificially ageing (patinating) a carved statue
A fruitless berry picking trip
Gleaning - that it, collecting grain crop leftovers by hand
The caterpillars of the Cinnarbar Moth
Updates on the patination project are here: • Random Stuff - Patinat...
and here: • Random Stuff - Spatula...

I'm sure you've already got the statue sorted as I'm over a year late to the party, but if you want to make moss grow you want to make a slurry by throwing a handful of moss in a blender with ~500 ml of buttermilk and water. Who knew something from mythbusters would end up being applicable. Love the videos!

I also wanted to mention this beautiful concrete horse head I have in my garden. I wish I could post a pic here. Moss naturally grew on it over a 4yr period and I love it. About 1/3 of it is covered and it looks as if someone made it that way. No artist compares to nature.

Do you want to pick blueberries in my backyard with me? I thrashed our small stands of winter rye by letting the stalks dry for 2 days, then cutting the heads off into a regular pillowcase and swinging the pillowcase down repeatedly into a table. Then I winnowed off the chaff by pouring the grains from my hand into a dish while standing outside in a slight breeze. Congratulations on 145,000.

I once made a furnace out of a big several gallon cooking pot with two bricks in the bottom, then I set a ceramic flower pot inside on top of the bricks, cut a hole through the side of both, ran a pipe for air intake and poured concrete mix around the rim between the two pots to fill up the gap. Duct taped a hair dryer to the end of the pipe and taped down the cool air button so it wouldn’t overheat as easy. I only melted down aluminum cans and broken broom handles and lawn furniture, but I got actual bentonite clay and sand and unsuccessfully tried to make molds. I couldn’t make a crucible that Wouldn’t melt, so the furnace was effective at least. The cooking pot held it together well even when it was heavily cracked. I used regular charcoal briquettes

for threshing the oats you might want to try making a small wooden frame with a bit of mesh spread across it like a canvas, then rub the oats+husks with a wooden block. I used to do that with wheat all the time and it worked quite well

The end of this video (I had to go to work earlier after my last comment, was roughly 2/3 done with the vid) somehow has me reminded of Peter Lustig, host of Löwenzahn. Not sure if you've ever heard of it considering it's German rather than English, but you give off the same nature knowledgeable, fun vibes in your videos, or at least you do to me. I'm now going to embark on a journey to watch probably the majority of your content, and I urge you to check out a channel called "Lofty Pursuits". What a beautiful collection of adventures! I've found painting statues with a moss "slurry" blended with Agar or even Gelatin makes an excellent growth medium, it appreciates the moist stickiness. Though most moss likes the acidity of yoghurt, it's also the perfect media for mould and other nasties. Lichen is so slow growing that its hard to get anything reasonable happening and it's more likely get a divorce- the slime mould and algae will decide to end their symbiosis
@thomasherzog86
@thomasherzog86 5 лет назад
i once read about "moss graffiti" where they advice to put the moss with yoghurt in a blender to spread it more evenly. i wouldve thought the moss wouldnt survive that, but apparently it does.
@AtomicShrimp
@AtomicShrimp 5 лет назад
I like that. Reminds me of a different kind of graffiti I saw on some dirty buildings and paved areas - someone jet-washed their graffiti onto it - so the picture/text was made of clean areas on a dark, dirty background. Kind of difficult to prosecute 'malicious cleaning'
