Hi, @slantfish garage, that's a DM 800. They had a longer hood and there a longer BBC than the DM 600; the DM 600 came in a shorter hood than the DM 800 and Mack offered an even shorter hood DM 600 than the standard DM 600, but they were not axle set back as this DM 800 is, if I'm correct. It's a pity this rig sits there, but it's quite restorable. The DM 800's had the standard Mack ENDT 672, optional ENDT 865 and Cummins NHC 250. It's possible to have the Cummins NHC 250 in a short hood DM 600 but some of the block would need to come into the cab with an inside cover for the back side of the Cummins 855 CID block as the Cummins N14 series engines were 6 in longer than the Mack ENDT 672 engines. I once saw a very short hood Mack U600 which actually had a Cummins NHC 250 in it, a **really rare sight**, I spotted that truck as it slowly passed me, before Broad Ave., it was near Fairview, NJ as I was heading south to Beyer Bros., a GMC/Autocar/Oshkosh truck dealership, also in Fairview, NJ in around year 2001.
Thank you for watching the video and thank you for the little short story. The truck in question is no longer sitting there. I've been a little bit afraid to even ask what happened to it, finding out that maybe it got crushed or cut up or something like that. I hope it didn't. I hope it got restored but anyway the bad part is I'm not that up on the Mack trucks. There was a lot of them at one time running the highways and the roads around here. Hauling lots and lots and lots of coal. I think I mentioned this in the video. Also, I mentioned in the video that there is a coal-fired power plant less than probably about 6 or 7 mi from there. So really kind of ironic. I wanted to capture this truck in the video okay because I don't see them like this anymore. When I was a child in the '80s these trucks were still running the roads. Now they're just a ghost A memory thanks to the EPA but that's another story. Also, thank you for all the information
Thank you very much for watching the video and thank you very much for your comment. Your comment is very appreciated and also very informative here in my area these trucks along with plenty of r. Model Mack trucks used to run the roads quite a bit. Hauling Coal
That old school DM is built like a tank. The gold Bulldog on the hood makes it a pure bred Mack which means an all Mack driveline. Too bad it seems to be rotting away.
@@rusttrail3 yeah those old Macs like that. Those DM series they built work and lots of it. Seems like I've read that that gold colored Mac bulldog on the hood meant that it was an all Mac driveline. I don't know. I can't remember if I actually said that in the video or not. I hope I did but anyways like I said in the video though I do remember saying this that I'm not as knowledgeable about Mack trucks as I am more knowledgeable about some of the other brands of trucks
All gold dogs bock then meant you had a purebred Maxidyne Maxitourqe , no other make was in your truck. All Mack, pure. Those were the days. Now the meaning for the gold dog is different, But supposed to be good.
Thank you very much. Todd Banks, first of all, thank you for watching the video and thank you for the comment. As far as getting pictures under the hood and in the cab and finding out more about it like what engine it has? I'm pretty sure it was a Mac engine but unfortunately that truck is no longer there and it doesn't belong to me. I don't know what happened to it but it is no longer there but thank you for watching the video and God bless
You make a very good point but I would like to say thank you for watching the video but back to your comment. Yeah, it probably would start right up Yes, those trucks were very durable, nearly indestructible
Hey, thank you for watching the video and thank you for your comments and I totally agree with you on your statement. However, I haven't seen that truck there at that location in some time. Probably close to a year now. I hope it has been sold to somebody else that particular salvage yard does like to sell stuff instead of scrapping it. And like I said, I hope somebody has bought it and is in the process of at least putting it back on the road or possibly restoring it. Here's the problem with restoring any vehicle. It's really super expensive especially today. It stuff is just sometimes tripled or even quadrupled in in price. I mean stuff like paint just the paint paint. Something is ridiculous anymore. It's just gotten so crazy anymore. Just trying and restore anything. People see my cars and my trucks in there like oh you need to restore that and they don't think about what it cost. And then not only that if you turn it over to a shop somebody else to restore it. The labor Ray is just astron and amical. It is just insane. I mean you have to restore stuff yourself pretty much unless you're a zillionaire or something like that anyway, sorry I ranted have a great day and again thank you for your comments
@@slantfish65sd yes your absolutely right, the price of materials and parts is just ridiculous anymore. They want us to buy new(junk)equipment rather than repair and maintain older equipment which like you said was built to last for generations. My cousins live in SE Ky so I too have a sense of pride when it comes to coal trucks especially Mack’s.I grew up hauling Blue Gem coal all over the mountains in Harlan, Hazard etc. To me, Mack is America 🇺🇸.
Again, I don't know why people have such trouble paying attention to the text on the thumbnail that has a? Meaning I'm not entirely certain. I'm just thinking that this is a DM 600. I have no access to the vehicle like data plates or information or anything else nor do I have access to the owners that would know
Slantfish, It's a DM800! Set back axle. A DM600 has a short hood, no set back axle. Both have steel fenders & hood. Great find & nice color scheme!!! 👍👍👍 Pennsylvania Built "Mack" 🇺🇸
Thank you so much! I guess you didn't pay attention to the thumbnail where there is a? Behind the number 600 I get it. It's an 800 okay. I've not worked on a whole lot of Max so you going to have to forgive my ignorance on identifying a truck that I had zero access to. Which I'm not going to climb all over it. Here's something else you might want to think about. Every time you leave me a comment that's negative. You're only helping my channel grow even further. So really the jokes on you and as far as doing negative things. What have you done lately? And another thing, if you don't like what I'm doing on here, don't freaking watch it
I want to say thank you very much for watching the video and thank you for your comment. I think this is Arabic that you've written in your comment. That is I'm not entirely certain. It's very pretty to look at but I cannot read it at all. I do apologize I haven't been able to figure out a way to decipher it and to English. So anyway, thank you very much and have a great evening
