Any serious Hendrix fan will tell you just how good a performance this is by Randy because he captures all those little nuances in Jimi's playing almost note perfectly. It amuses me somewhat that some people are criticizing him for producing a near flawless copy of the fillmore version, do you have any idea how hard that still is to achieve in an AUTHENTIC fashion with the FEEL of Jimi's playing? If he was falling short in some way then it would likely be the opposite, "well he's good, but he can't do it just like Jimi". Guys give the man some credit where it's due. There are numerous performances of Jimi's songs on youtube by very highly regarded guitar players and they never come near to what Randy does. He is the closest thing that you are going to get to the real deal while he is still around.
His shit is GREAT! forget the trolls! This man has mimic talent! sounds like me (in my mind) when i try to mimic this version! NOT! Randy is the real thing! just discovered him!
I'm a huge Hendrix fan and a guitarist of 50 years, this guy absolutely sounds and has unequivocally captured the feel and emotion of Hendrix. This is the best Hendrix cover I've ever heard.
I am a guitarist for over 40 years and i totally agree these are not easy pieces to play let alone remember it all.He totally channels the soul and feel of jimi .its eery almost supernatural . The voice all of it man ...incredible ....this is mezmorizing this is a masterpiece of a performance
I have found A Major reduction of cake has helped... But still unfortunately a huge Hendrix fan...bit like the jabba the hut with an electric ukulele...
I'm the same age as you and was unlucky enough to not see Jimi at the Isle of Wight Festival as I fell asleep after travelling all night to get there. Randy is Hendix channelled ****ing amazing!
@@geoffsimpson1543 I am 69 yrs and also saw him when he headlined at the Charlotte NC. Coliseum in 1968...OMG!..😁.Randy is seriously dialed in on the Hendrix touch and is a awesome guitarist in his on right.....Loved his version of Machine Gun - WoW!
@@jonathantutweiler man I’m 17 years old and I would kill to see Hendrix. Your some of the few lucky people that got to see the greatest guitarist of all time!

@@uwelucas8190 Great Job at Copying, if I want to hear it I'll just play The Original! Even Hendrix did different Versions!! Randy needs to go to a Dentist for some SERIOUS Dental Work, He looks like one of The "Ferengi" But at least he's doing what he Loves to do and doesn't have to work on a Funky 9 to 5!!!
@Louise X I thought this WAS Hendrix - and one of his better performances, at that - until I looked to see what RU-vid had decided I wanted to hear next. Incredible performance.
and say it took me some 15 years to discover Apocalypse Now 'Machine Gun' played on The Roach radio was Randy Hansen version, NOT from Hendrix ! What a shock when it did came to me...
That line, “Evil men make me kill you even though we’re only families apart,” shows what an underrated lyricist Hendrix was. Sums up the tragedy of war in such a profound way.
Very impressive how close he gets. To the tone to the little background nuances you have to work months to get for little details for the solo. Hard work pays off!
This literally just brought tears to my eyes. Jimi was ALIVE again in few places. You could almost feel his spirit coming in through Randy! This was beyond amazing!!!
@@diegoferrari3341 I hate to be the one to break this to you, but our beloved God Jimi passed away in 1970. Most of us have heard his recordings, videos, and movies so much; it can actually get old. It is totally awesome Randy is there to keep Hendrix so alive for us to enjoy the fuck out of, lol!
Maybe the best cover of any song I've ever seen. Bro recited the entire electric guitar bible word for word... Amazing and very well done. Hats off, my good man.
Playing in a Jimi Hendrix Tribute Band myself....Randy is in a different universe. My highest respect and big thanks for making this Hendrix experience as real and close as possible.

I did not think that anyone could come close to duplicating the sound of Hendrix doing "Machine Gun" but Randy Hansen has done it. It's not only his amazing guitar work but his voice actually sounds like Hendrix. It's almost like Jimi Hendrix is being channeled through him. An amazing performance!
I know what you mean Jason when you see the real deal live your whole body and soul feels it. I have not seen Randy live but I felt that 7 years ago with Walter Trout
This performance is unreal. Everything about it is so good in an almost haunting-kind of way. Unbelievable! I never thought I’d ever hear this re-created this well. Thank you Randy for what you do - all of you guys sound amazing.
Saw him in Berkeley about 1990. There was a group of 20 or 30 people RIGHT next to Randy on the stage. This was several groups of two or three people that did not know each other. At one point most of us looked at each other and said that they could feel Jimi in the building. It is one thing to be a world class guitarist; it is another to bring back the dead in spirit through your love and devotion.
Holy moly this guy is Hendrix reincarnated, I am 68 years old and was a huge Hendrix fan, had tickets to see him and he passed so never got too see him, this guy keeps him alive".........
+Luke Raber Yeah Luke - note for note it is almost 100% amazing - I wish he didnt over pronounce the singing though, I came accross this at a wedding in Sardinia recently, an amazing band doing great covers, but their English was too perfect and precise - We dont speak like that, Jimi didnt either ! Like we speak English lazier that we should, but great sound over all !
+Luke Raber 40 odd years of practice !!, Just goes to show the sublime untouchable genius of Jimi, he did this off the top of his head !!!, the mind boggles, Peace.
+Keiran Bradley: So true and that's what has always amazed me about Hendrix. That stuff came out of his head and top artists can only hope to emulate the template he left. A quick note in passing, I like the way Randy has taken a left handed fender and turned it upside down! Nice touch!
That's Jimi's live tone all day, and it's scary how close his voice is to Jimi's. If you weren't paying close attention you would definitely think this is the Band Of Gypsys.
I clicked thinking l would be underwhelmed and midway through. I even tried to be an asshole and find something wrong (one does not trifle with the sacred Hendrix Scrolls), and l came up empty! This is a gift to humanity.
@@jayhendricks67 Easy, easy there,...In was 11 when Hendrix passed and can only imagine what it must have been like to actually see him,...I dont have to much when I watched this and by the way.,...what have you ever done?
Was at the Hendrix concert New Years eve 69 into 70 and I must say this dude sound exactly like Jimi. The next Day I was sent to Vietnam with this song in my head.. yes it had an affect on me during combat in Dak Tao
Whoe!!! You were there! Watching Jimi do machine gun at the Filmore East on New Year’s Eve of 69. Unreal! Then leaving for Viet Nam next day. What a precious memory that is! Thank you for your service, sir.
this is imposible ,no one can do this, he has to be possesed by hendrix . just saw Bonamasa doing his band of gypsys tone.Randy is light years beyond anyone. He is also doing this right handed.words can not convey how impressive this is. Randy you have to be proud and Jimi must have been on ten hits of acid to create this in the first place
This bought a tear to my eye, to close my eyes & listen, I swear by the only one who has been able to make me feel like Jimi was still alive!! you are a very special man to dedicate your love and talents to my man JIMI
I just stumbled on this. I m in awe of how incredible this performance is. Quality of sound and nuances and overall vibe. They killed it. Jimi was sooo ahead of his time. This is the best Jimi tribute I’ve ever heard. Wtf
I'm always extremely sceptical whenever I see a video of someone covering Jimi Hendrix. It pretty much never lives up, not even close. But that shit good. It's very rare to see a guitarist who can actually properly imitate Jimi. The tone is great, the playing is on fucking point, all those little noises, dynamics, all the subtle nuances in vibrato and bending that Jimi had, the energy, just perfect. The dude is truly a scholar of Hendrix, can't even imagine how much time he spent studying his playing.
This is actually mind bending. It’s one thing his guitar playing sounding so eerily similar to Jimi (and I don’t mean that to in anyway take away form the mans skill and brilliance in his own right) but that voice as well! So similar to jimi it’s crazy. He should get more credit. I just found this but have been playing it none stop. From one guitar player to another I can not express how good I think this shit is! Wow!
god damn it... this guy is amazing, he sounds like im actually listening to Jimi Hendrix, wtf he nailed everything, from the guitar tone to the playing to even his voice, this guy must've been born to play jimi hendrix covers
Randy has been at perfecting his craft since I was a teenager, almost 40 years ago. He has dedicated his career to Jimi's music, and for that I am grateful.
I’m 67 and was listening to Jimi and Buddy in high school in the 70s. Randy captures Jimi’s essence in this cut and he needs no apology whatsoever. It’s almost eerie how pure in comparison to Jimi’s album the sound is here as if he was in Randy in spirit. Powerful, heavy and enduring.
I got to see Randy play Berkeley in about '89. There was a flock of about 20 people all about 10' from Randy. At one time all of us just looked at each other in utter amazement and as one said/felt "you can FEEL Jimi in the building"! Bringing back the spirit of the dead with music is a pretty good trick!
seen Hansen at the Comidore in Vancouver, i am only guessing when id think early 80s he was truely amazing....very surprised he isn't bigger than he deserves to be
In my opinion it's not authentic at all sorry. This is a true copy of Machine Gun from Band of gypsies live , I can find no creation in this stuff from Hansen.. I have to admit this is a good copy but it doesn't interests me at all . This isn't a personal work at all ... I prefer to be listening to the original version.
Tomidel its suppossed to be as close as the original as possible, not improvised or created by randy. its an opportunity for the ones that couldnt see jimi play while he was alive
I agree. But this video is presented as if it was a reinterpretation from Hansen. And it's not. Even the voice is the same. And everybody is super enthusiastic about the fact this work is getting outside of the original. They don't know the original I guess ...
Tomidel they're all praising him because he did an exact performance. If he had improvised himself it would still be nice but certainly not the same. I cant speak for the rest here but i came to this video because its just like watching jimi play but in much higher sound and video quality.
I put a positive mark on the analysis, but I dissagree about the perfect match in Hendrix's quitar, I've listened the stuff for tens of years, and can easily see some shortcomings in Randy's playing. And I dont want to be blunt, but the sounds and person dont also match hear. The exact copy it dont have to be, but.......
+james cava It;s not note for note, not even Randy wants to go THAT far. Randy plays the majority of the song faithfully right, it's amazing really, how much work Randy has done to capture most of Hendrix's phrasing. There simply will never be a more realistic guy to cover Hendrix, Randy is as good as will ever get without getting TOO creepy and trying to play exactly the same way as each Hendrix LIVE version goes. Jimi played machine gun different every night, Randy has to mainly play the classic version, that;s what the fans want to hear, I bet Randy could really go to town in his own way, but its not really what he is up there to do.
+Carat Cranker Yeah, i know what you mean about this being the "Standard" version but his ( Jimi ) Isle of Wight rendition of Machine Gun is totally colossal, his phrasing is completely devastating IMHO, Peace.
My first concert ever 1980 I was 15. The venue was an old theater from the 1800's in Northern California . First row upper balcony complete Hendrix show. I believe he wore a wig and makeup and lit guitar on fire (-;
At the time of this post, there are 191 people with absolutely no taste in; or understanding of, music. Wow! What a hell of a performance. Just incredible!
I cried listening to this. Absolutely, without a doubt, the best rendition cover of "Machine Gun" I have ever heard. I was 12 years old in 1968 when I was given "Band of Gypsies" album by someone I didn't even know. I listened to that record almost exclusively for years and years. Played the record, started over. It got ingrained into my bones. This is like listening to Jimi, God rest his soul. This video is going into my favorites to listen to again and again. I HAVE to see these guys LIVE!!
Christopher Mayer I would have to agree with you. If you watch him play he plays with a lot of respect to Jimi. I'm a big Hendrix fan from the first time I hear him play. I do give Randy Hansen his props. But when you get down to it he isn't Jimi Hendrix. if it wasn't for Jimi putting out the songs. Randy Hansen wouldn't have anything to play.
He’s unreal to see live. I went to see him at a club in Malibu in 1990. I met him and his band before the show. He was dressed in regular clothes but an hour later he was in full valour and blew us away. He’s been doing this since the 1970s and he actually plays Jimi as good or better. I know it’s playing someone else’s music but he has perfected it. This version is something great. A great musician playing the music of a legend
Randy Hansen's Jimi Hendrix show was the first really rock concert for me, probably 1977 age 14, at the Paramount Theater in Seattle. The show started with solemn organ music, then the curtain raises to show a coffin on stage. The coffin lid slowly lifts up and Randy jumps out to start playing. Pretty awesome!
For those who were too young or not lucky enough to see Hendrix play, this is as close as you can get to that experience. It's really close to what you could have gotten if this was early 1969 and Hendrix was still here.
I saw Jimi play live 3 times, and I met him at a club where he was hanging out with Buddy Miles, long before there was a Band of Gypsies. I worshipped Jimi, and I have to say that it is downright eerie how this performance brings it all back. I have no problem with covers, as long as they are done well and respectfully. This is probably the best cover of a Hendrix song that I have heard. If I close my eyes I could believe that I was 15 years old again, sitting in the front row right in front of Jimi, just as I did at Hunter College on March 2, 1968! Right on, Randy Hansen and Band. You nailed it!
It's a real pleasure to revive Hendrix as well as he does, because Jimi has unfortunately left us too early ! What emotion with Randy ! Thank you Sir Hansen !
Randy has been playing these songs for nearly 40 years. Poor Jimi only got to play them for 5. Thanks RH for representing so well for all these years. Thanks keeping those magic songs alive for us.
This is my Nth time watching this, and RH's first solo, from Jimi's famous, piercing cry to the universe at about 3:40 to some 3 minutes later, is some of the most inspired playing ever, regardless of genre. I don't care that Randy's mimicing Jimi, the heart & FEEL that RH injects into his playing can't be taught. Just a pure joy to listen to.
I have played in bands for around 30 years in the style of SRV, Hendrix, Robin Trower, Rory Gallagher and the like. Out of all the guitar players i have seen and heard nobody comes close to capturing the soul, vibe, feel, and tone of Hendrix and much more than the Randy Hansen band. Randy doesn't just play the same notes but also takes it to an even higher level that Hendrix could have gone to had he lived. Where some players try to overshred playing 1000 notes a second to Hendrix, Randy keeps it real and never loses the soul of Jimi.
He really is unbelievable......and he's been doing this for 40 some odd years. More polished now obviously but my god......no one .....does Hendrix like Randy .....no one.
I saw Randy perform a few times, the first time was at the Golden Bear in Huntington Beach...he had a fog machine on the floor fogging up the floor...to start, he started making thunder sounds and then slithered out of the fog like Hendrix coming out of the grave...awesome show...I also saw him where he actually played with the Band of Gypsies, Jimi's old band...its like Jimi passed the torch to Randy... he is the best for us now...I am impressed with his skills...well done

I have been listening to Hendrix for nearly 50 years and saw Randy on RU-vid a few years ago. I loved it so much I travelled from the U.K. to the Netherlands to watch him play. Absolutely amazing. The best I have ever seen. If you can go and see him, do.Randy you should come to London where it all started for Hendrix.
Hi - we have a very motivated booker, who just sold out the the Olympia in Paris with us and two other bands and he is also thinking about other famous venues, where Jimi played before. We´ll see what happens :-)
This sounds exactly like Jimi Hendrix. It's amazing. Even more amazing is that Jimi produced the exact same sound more than 50 years ago, with technology from that time.
Wow, a lot of comments, nice n not so. This cat deserve his due, because... I play guitar for 40 + years. Jimmi is not easy to replicate to the level this gentlemen has achieved. Years of listening, hours and hours of practice tweaking equipment striving to perfect each unique TONE Jimi made on his guitar. All to give a live production of Jimi's musical legacy for those that would appreciate hearing it live again. All I can say is God Bless you guys for all the hard work. It's wonderful to hear it, and God Damn you'll Nailed it!!! . And a Word for the critics? Go Fuck Yourselves. You pick up a guitar and show us you can do this as well or better. If NOT?
