Gorgeous is the word of the day, because that is what this range is. I have started work on the conversions video/s let's say I was sent a TON of stuff, literally hundreds of emails, so there's a lot to unpack there, and also I have to put up my review on the Creality CR10 SE printer (spoilers, it's amazing).
A question - are you familiar with artwork of Elijah Arhpriest(used to be on artstation)? He has a few pieces depicting alpha legion in stealth scheme (black with silver trim, purple lenses and green/blue markings) led by Omegon most likely(even has him in phobos armor too in one). Would said scheme work for a loyalist successor perhaps? Or a near-black green is better?
I remember when they announced the decision to no longer sell the complete Legion specific dreadnoughts. That was the day I lost the last bit of faith I had left for the community, when people in the Facebook comments were trying to defend GW over this and explaining to me how entitled I am if I'm complaining over a minor thing like that. And that GW actually only stopped selling the complete Dreadnoughts (without even giving me a last chance to buy the ones that were sold out at the time), so that we could have more space for decals and freehand designs or some bs like that.
Tried getting one of the last full AL contemptors when they went out of print, sadly could not get my hands on one. I did end up buying one from a recaster, along with some of the various mark IV bits. Sadly the quality isn't what I imagine official FW would have been. A lot of the detail is just a bit rough, and what should be smooth surfaces are what I would call "somewhat pockmarked". If anyone could recommend a proven great recaster I would love to get my hands on another fully Alpha'd up contemptor

Weird suggestion as an interesting add-on kit for Alpha Legion if you wanna go the ornate route: the WH Fantasy Black Ark Corsairs kit. Plenty of scaled capes that looks like made of hydra skin, knives and weapons that share the curved aesthetic mentioned in the video, as well as a gorgeous banner you can use for a command squad. There's even a snake banner top if you want to go all-in.
Love the alpha legion range, Also with exodus's rifle i think the idea is that it can have a magazine but also being able to open the bolt for special ammo e.g. vindicare shield breaker rounds. and in the mini you can actually see him putting in a new round into the breach.
Shame, the mag is so, so skinny looking, but it's an easy fix. Edited: It would also, be a nice replacement for a standard Vindicare rifle, provided you sculpted the new model around it.
Got offered an age of darkness boxset for my birthday by my cousin who owns a flgs. Went through the range of legion-specific models and absolutely fell in love with this range. Apart from the MkVI helmets this range simply does not miss.
Great review! Curious if you have any thoughts on Autilon Skorr (even though he's out of production). Always liked his unique helmet design myself, but would be interested to hear what you think.
I will say in regards to the headhunter upgrade kit, I have cut up my Mk6 beakies to force these to fit, using spare Grey Knight right arms to hold the combi Banestrike bolter and left hands either to hold the grip using a little cutting, or using Mk6 left arms from the SGTs and grey knight left hands to make them do tactical hand movements or point at potential targets. I can confirm that they look absolutely gorgeous converted that way, AND the chest and heads still look appropriately sized for the legs surprisingly! If you.have the patience and hobby knife, I say go for it!!
I am an AL player and collector. I would say I am not a big fan of Terminator axes or the "orcrist" on the Termie Praetor, but would replace those with a 3rd party option and there are some drop dead stunning ones out there available for you at Conversion World.
Can confirm the praetors were pre-lockdown, as I got mine summer 2019 when I joined the game. The power armored one is still the nicest paint job I've ever achieved.
I have managed to get the torso for the Headhunters kit to fit onto the new MK VI. It’s definitely possible, though it requires some work and careful cutting.
That's a big big Bolter. Probably shoots ZSU 14.7mm or something akin to it. Alpha Legion Range would probably be the second army I'd use if I had go into Heresy 1.0 aka Alan Bligh's version.
I play Alpha LegionI have an Alpha Legion army and the scratched paint, revealing Alpha Legion underneath always makes me laugh a little. They're into infiltration and subterfuge, but they only paint over their original armor color. Because nothing ever gets chipped or scratched, immediately revealing who you actually are, lol. Still really cool looking of course.
I'd run Exodus as a regular Vigilator Consul it's that beautiful of a model. Hell, I'd run 3 because it's that fantastic! And because my opponent would want to strangle me, but that's a different story.
I feel like the dreadnought thing might have worked atleast somewhat if they also released a ”venerable Contemptor”. Because ignoring how dumb the idea of killing everything except for the torso was, so many of them just dont work with the plain ass plastic Contemptor! But if There was a plastic Contemptor with trim they would fit in so much better.
Tbh the way theyre doing the upgrades kits now makes me think that gw/ fw will release full resin kits for phalanx warders and AL head hunters for example
They have to, otherwise people will need to buy old mkIV just to assemble them… and I don’t think they’ll keep producing them for much longer. Especially when they will replace mkIV with new scale. The problem is… when I trust that conversion kits will have priority as you wrote. But GW plans are not for mortals to understand 😅 We may get truescale tartaros or some random unit remake
@Baktrianos it's bloody annoying as I started fists and wanna have warders. I'd rather spend more and just kitbash with mk3 than use the old mk 4 kit tbh
Its sad as a Salamanders player seeing how nice a range the Alpha Legion have 😢 Maybe now Simon Egan is finished with Primarchs he can do more Character Series models?!
