This video will be more a discussion, and planning the future of mostly the green P38 unresolved issues.
Let's have a look at the oil analysis reports I got after sending in oil samples from both Range Rover's and the Ford Excursion. This will give you an idea of what you can expect from the reports, and what you can learn from them. It'll give you clues at what to keep an eye and which kind of maintenance you need to perform.

The green P38's AC pulley (STC2131) is still making some squeaking noises, so I've ordered a new part and will replace it. The left side fan blower motor has come in and will be replaced as well, along with the heater core temperature sensor (STC3256). I got a Citroen fan blower motor (Valeo 698327), like I did replace on the passenger side blower motor in video 66: • Range Rover P38 # 066 ...
As you may have noticed I've tried to track down the issue my green P38 has with an intermittent non working gas pedal. It seems to only happen above 80 km/h (50 mph) and when letting fully go of the gas. Sometimes the check engine light will flicker and the gas pedal won't respond. The fix has been to put the gear in neutral and back into drive and it then works fine again... Until the next time the check engine light flickers. It also has a few random idle stumble issues if you tap the gas pedal, as well as seeming to lack slightly in power compared to the black P38. Also it never down shifts if you floor it above 90 km/h (55 mph).
The only code that'll be in the system is "error 144", fuel quantity sensor.
- I've replaced the pedal potentiometer (ERR7107) to eliminate a worn sensor in it. Same issue, still malfunctions randomly.
- Swapped ECU's with the black P38. Also no change, still same issue.
Doing the EDC change I got to try out my 4 year old never-used Sync-Mate programming tool, which is needed to reprogram the BeCM to the EDC module to allow the car to start up. I got the tool while brand new to the P38's and having start issues right after buying the black P38. However it turned out to be the glow plugs and I never had the time (or dared to) test the Sync-Mate device before now. It works great though and got my green P38 to fire right up with the EDC module from my black P38. So now you know you'll need to perform a synchronization of the BeCM and EDC module if you ever swap out the EDC module for any reason. It's also handy if the BeCM and EDC ever gets confused and out of sync for any reason.
Note that there's different EDC's for engines with EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) or not. EGR was introduced in late 1999:
- MSB100870 / STC4393 (no EGR, pre late 1999)
- MSB106380 / STC4599 / ERR7112 (with EGR, late 1999 or newer engine # 31438932 and up)
So I'm left with either bad wiring, connections, or the fuel injection pump (FIP) itself. Based on the error code, i'm going to go with the pump, and get a replacement refurbished pump to see if that fixes the problem. Since resealing the black P38's pump might not go as planned, I might need an extra pump anyways. I'm a little worried the quantity sensor might not last long in a replacement pump either, but a brand new is just way to expensive.
