Simon, you are a genius ! We live in Quebec ! Yesterday night, minus 10 C, my wife is making a u-turn in a small street, by shifting forward and backward when suddenly, the shifter is stuck in park position !! The closest dealer is 90 minutes away ! I found your video, I followed your instructions to dismantle the shifter: same problem with the tip of the lever broken !!! I used a hair pin as I didn’t have a cutter pin ! It works !!! Many thanks !!!
Hope you did not get too cold ! at least you could leave the engine running while you did the repair. Lucky it happened in a quiet street ! We have friends in Montreal and have visited Quebec many times |
Thank you so much for making this !!! It was a lifesaver when I was stuck in bumf**k unable to even get my car out of a friends driveway. But I had fedex deliver the button and a Torx 8 screwdriver for a combined $20 and I was on my way. You're awesome !
Broke it yesterday evening. Immediately watched your video on the side of the road as I was certain you would offer a solution 🙂. Turns out it can also be fixed with a hair pin cut at 3cm and clamped on both sides of plastic bit that presses on the clic thingy (I know, I'm low tech). Keep up the good work!
Thanks for this Simon. I have the same gear lever in my 2021 Disco Sport, and because I seem to be forever fighting with it to do what I want, I'm sure I shall end up breaking said parts in very short order indeed! I really can't get on with it and would much prefer a mechanical linkage so I can rely on feel more than having to always glance down to see which darned gear I've selected. Probably just me getting a bit long in the tooth now, as a bad workman should never blame his tools!
I like the video thanks ... but how do you stop from "submarining" as you said.... I've gotten the switch apart but each time I put it back together its "submarining"?
Great vlog, Simon. The glue on the facia of mine was not holding so well and it was starting come away. Upgraded to the SVR version and looks v smart. Cheers.
For the piece the actually breaks, is the new one metal instead of plastic? If so, I would think the new one would hold up better going forward. Thanks for the video!
Thanks Simon - The only thing I would add is that apparently there is an area you could just push to get you out of a sticky situation. You still have to disassemble but at least you can move the car. It might break at traffic lights and you might not have a replacement handy. Cheers.
have an 2013 RRS and have come to a small issue concern. Im replacing an exhaust valve on the right side cylinderhead. And ufortunately I live in a small town which my closest land Rover dealer is like 300 miles away. My issue concern is that I dont know how much torque I need to tighten everything back up again. As in the “calibration process” If a data sheet of that kind is available on your end it would nicely be appreciated. I dont want to have a hickup once driving it, and to prevent the timing chain on jumping. Thank you very much and any info privoded once again is very much appreciated.
Hi - you can pay for a days access to Land Rover technical information - Topix. You can google Topix and sign up.... maybe i need to do a video on how to use Topix
Thanks Simon was heading to Wales this morning and it happened to me so I’ve stripped it and clicking switch with screwdriver 🤦♂️but it works for now 👍 Have you got the part number please 🙏🏻
I wish you make a video taking it apart inside the car because I’m stuck in public. I have no way to get home and this thing is not selecting any gears
This button failed a couple of weeks ago. Was in a traffic jam on an A road in Switzerland on a blind bend and on the brow of a hill.Needed to be towed away, temp fix made and 500 Swiss Francs and two hours later I was back on the road. Had to ship the part from the UK. Total cost of problem £500. The small plastic part that broke is pure rubbish quality!
@@JonAsquith They sell this part www.powerfuluk.com/vehicles/range-rover-evoque-sport/sport-2014-l494/interior-accessories/genuine-gear-shift-module-repair-kit-for-range-rover-sport-l494-non-svr.html This is Land Rover PN LR117072 - they fail often so most dealers have them in stock If not place an order on our website and pay for special delivery / DHL Maybe i should put these on Amazon for super fast delivery ! Good luck !
@@JonAsquith I would rather take you money too... but best to get your car back ASAP You could try the split pin fix... Remember you need the small Torx driver too !
@@L663 It was a nightmare! My daughter had borrowed the car to go to the grocery store, reversed out of the parking spot, and could not change gear! The car was in park, so couldn't be towed until the tow driver pulled up the cup holders and pulled the emergency brake release red tabs. The problem with it is, that it doesn't fade or slowly fall apart... one minute you can select a gear, then next you are locked in that position. Basically, I'd suggest that everyone change the trigger every 5 years, at your own leisure in you own driveway. Also, the truck driver said "this happens a lot, and you are lucky I can release the brakes from the inside. The new ones have to be released by crawling under the car!"
My car caused chaos last week blocking the exit to sainsburys and the entry to the A14 in Bury st Edmonds. No gear selection, RAC guy found the fault and fixed with super glue 🪛🔧
