Rangers drop to third division, forced to play in lowest Scottish tier

Glasgow Rangers have been relegated to the lowest tier of professional football in Scotland. It comes after the club was forced into liquidation in June due to major financial problems.
Rangers had hoped to parachute from the Scottish Premier League to the first division, but 25 of the 30 SFL clubs voted against them playing in Division 1. It ends a summer of uncertainty for Rangers, who'll look to work their way back up the leagues under new owner Charles Green.

Glasgow Rangers weren't relegated. They were unable to pay their bills and were placed in administration. They were unable to exit from administration and got liquidated. All hugely embarrassing. They ceased to exist. The history books will forever confirm their sorry demise. A new entity was formed, which had the good fortune to be invited to join the 3rd Division of the Scottish League - the 4th tier of Scottish football.

they didint have 3 years audited accounts so shouldnt have been in div 3, sfa changed thier old rules to let them in.

rangers were not forced to play in div 3. rangers died and ceased trading, didnt exit administration and liquidated.

The vote was about Sevco (before the name change) joining the top league despite never having played one football game. No relegation, demotion, put down or forced to play in the lower leagues.

Rangers were morally bankrupt, which led them to becoming financially bankrupt. How SFA chief wanted them to stay in the 'premier' league speaks volumes for the sectarian nature of the top brass, which culminated in this disaster for club 12 newco rangers. Shameful!

they havnt been relegated mate the old rangers have gone bust this new club is indeed a new club a whole new football club so the rules state that any new club must start at the bottom of the league structure.i.e division 3 however there is other rules in place that suggest a new club wanting to play in the football league must have at least 3 years audited accounts before being considered for playing professional football. the new club rangers are very fortunate to be in division 3 this season

Rangers were LIQUIDATED in 2012 and a new club applied for a licence and were lucky to be allowed to enter at Division 3. Those are the facts of the matter anything claimed otherwise is a lie.

the rangers international, Sevco Scotland Ltd were relegated to the lower leagues, Rangers Football Club were liquidated by the Scottish courts in February 2012, that means closed down for good.

seems ridiculously harsh to me. rangers will take years and years to rebuild. similar thing happened to juventus, but they did something blatantly wrong. can someone enlighten me as to how they're relegated to 3rd div?

krugger911 rangers were liquidated and a new club called sevco subsequently known as the rangers replaced them. Any new club starts in the bottom tier. Gretna were told in 2008 they would play in the bottom tier following liquidation. They didn't actually do this but it is the same principle. New clubs start at the bottom.

Cheating is blatantly wrong. Secretive double contracts withheld from the governing body is blatantly wrong. Denying trophies and medals to competitors who played within the rules is blatantly wrong. How come they didn't end up in the Highlands League? Crikey, footie has become downright money-orientated! They should've joined the EPL long ago; they might have even lifted a few cups there. Have they lost any fans after all this s..t? Will the new company keep the spirit and soul? What do you lads reckon?
