Sixty thousand is enough. Seventy would be a bit of a waste and the wrong business move. The last thing you want is a whole tier with nobody in it for some games. Adding another ten thousand would take us into line with ‘that lot’, because we’ve been leaving money on the table for years now, and it’s given them an immediate financial advantage every season. Twenty thousand extra seats would knock out our waiting list, and you always ensure that demand outstrips supply by a certain percentage so you can justify the price. However, the waiting list is too big right now, but ten thousand would be the sensible approach. I know that would leave people still waiting, but that is the shrewd business move for the board. The lowering of the pitch does bring lots of problems because the water table is higher around Ibrox than at other stadiums. It would require it being tanked out, and there would need to be other work done to deal with flooding requirements. Fill the corners in, install a different screen system that doesn’t require us to have the biggest TV’s in Scotland and we can use the rest of the cash to give to the manager. We need to make sure there’s a team on the pitch worth watching or the investment will be a waste of time. I’m not saying we won’t go to somewhere near seventy one day, because we are the biggest club in Scotland by quite a distance, but we need to box clever and move at a pace where UEFA regulations wont impinge on what we need to do to the facilities, and making sure our squad is being fitted out properly. The board were talking about the player trading model, and you need to feed that through transfers as well as the youth academy. We also need to be fair to Clement as well. He’s came in and made an impression so far, but we also know what this lot can be like, so we need to be able to say to him that there’s a certain amount of budget to recruit players he’d like to bring in. That needs to be done with the recruitment department in tandem, but it’s always been that way, even before Gerrard arrived at Ibrox. It was the former head scout, Andy Scoulding, who suggested Gerrard to Mark Allen, as Scoulding knew Gerrard. I was glad to hear they were closing in on appointing a new Director of Football, because it’s been a gaping hole at the club. They need to recruit the right fit and someone who has the right personality to work well with the manager and not try to undermine him in any way. The DoF position is operational, so he shouldn’t be trying to tell the manager who to pick or play, and also not who he needs to sign. He should be there to facilitate most of the time, but also make recommendations based on sound data. He also needs tom look at innovation int he game and run it past the football department people to get feedback. What we don’t need is another short arse who appears to show off over-hyped marquee players, And then disappears from sight when things aren’t going well. What we need is a team player, not a midget with an ego who likes signing big names who are past their sell-by-date.
I don't think its a "gaping hole" Walter Smith, Souness, McLeish, Jock Wallace, Advocaat never needed another guy telling him what players to buy. If a manager doesnt know himself i wouldn't trust him as far as i could throw him. The Ibrox expansion has just been confirmed. Work will start on Sunday morning to increase the stadium's capacity from 50,817 to 50,818 as they've just found a spare deck chair in the back room propped up against the dusty cabinet they bought to keep their European trophies.
Don’t understand how some fans are against the increase of the stadium’s capacity.. If there’s one club and fan base that needs it, it is us.
